You seriously believe that a government should have no secrets at all? That  every single thing a government does should just be posted on the internet for everyone to read? You can't possibly believe that.

Remember this quote from Lincoln?

A lot of people quote it but I guess it is just rhetoric.

The Gettysburg Address by Abraham Lincoln... that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth. ...

If it is government by the people then why would the government be able to keep secrets from us?

We have come to accept that mainly from Cold War hysteria.

Even FOIA requests are heavily redacted.

How exactly are they screwing Obama?

You are right... I am wrong.... The Obama Administration has had a major victory here... He leads the American Nation into a new era of prosperity that will be the envy of the world and that will galvanize forever a representive democracy founded on individual Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness.

BTW... flc2009... exactly how many of the poor and homeless of Florida are you taking into your home? I know its off topic... kinda... but still... you seem solid and bourgeoisie...you guys buying pink polo shirts and designer glasses for all the have nots in your area?

Way too many links .... but wow....

OK... so the link police don't cry, here is the NYT showing how Wikileaks screwed President Obama

http://www.nytimes.com/2010/11/29/world/29cables.html?_r=1&hp

Let me ask you something FDD, and this is a general question for all the conservatives and libertarians here.

How is it that you want limited government but support the right of government to withhold information from the public?

I hate answering a question with a question but it is hard to avoid...How do you portend to champion American Exceptionalism without knowing what it is...individual liberty, the right to succeed and FAIL, private property,  the right to be more intelligent and lead myself to a better life because of it... ya know... The American Dream... Oh... and the right to pass it on, however the fuck I want to, to my prodigy?

I was actually waiting for someone to ask that question, and it is a good one.

But how far do we want that secrecy to go?

Yes, there are some cases in which it is warranted, but far too much information is needlessly classified.

How am I championing what you call "American Exceptionalism"?

I think the whole concept of that is the reason the U.S. enjoys such a high level of disrespect throughout the world.

It is the epitome of arrogance.

Usually offered by people who have no idea what life in other countries is like.

Maybe you should figure out what direction you want to go.

This is what always confuses me about conservatives, you want government out of your lives...........at least until you think government is useful in your lives.

I'll catch up later. For now I noticed this :

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20101130/ap_on_go_ca_st_pe/us_wikileaks_security

on the att site.

"Striking back, the Obama administration ...."

Is that perception or reality ? Even if it is reality, it is that of another's perception. Was Obama's intent that of a Kenyan, an American or a democrat ? Fire up that mind reading machine, mine's in the shop.

That is a tertiary issue at best, leaks can be a problem. People who are really loyal to us (most of them I guess) can be endangered or otherwise neutralized.

A long time ago, judgement was predicated on results of actions, later on the actions themselves, and now on the intent of those actions.

Be back.

I want do gooder, white guilt hand wringing out of our lives and realistic and practical governmental policy in place.

Government taking from the haves and those working to have and giving it to give to the have nots, for the sole reason that the haves have it and the have nots
don't because it is the FAIR thing to do isn't in my line o thinking.

Government has its role.... but as a human I want more...not the same as other humans... why can't "liberals, socialists, what haveyouists" see that  the pursuit to have better for
one's self and one's family is a good thing.... EVEN in the reality that SOME will fail and other won't give a shit?

Perhaps an expensive lesson in openness and especially the result of a lack in it!

Wikileaks is currently inaccessible at my location. I understand there's some sort of DDOS attack going on,and the site is currently being hosted by Amazon - I still can't access it, despite that...

It is certainly strange that one guy is said to have been able to leak so much info. It is one way the thinking of various middle east regimes could be made public.

I kind of thought the same thing when I read that. Could be a move to say "Hey we caught the bastard..No more future worries..He's done now and look how fast we got him too!"

This sums up my feeling on the whole thing, that it has been completely overblown by everyone involved.

Watch the video.
