Whats your point? Are you trying to point out more examples of Einstein being wrong or what?

No, einstein (not to be confused with the other one). MY point is that he was many things, including contradictory. THIS all started because someone claimed that MOST scientists were atheists. Einstein happened to the the one most disagreed with. No other scientist was mentioned or disputed.

Now, if you wish to get your panties in a wad, go for it. [:D]

SL4V3M4YB3 -> RE: Where is God ? (12/11/2010 9:25:02 AM)

Einstein wasn't a scientist, I never once saw him wear a white lab coat and carry a clipboard.

tazzygirl -> RE: Where is God ? (12/11/2010 9:27:50 AM)

LOL

stereotyping lives!

Yes most scientists actually are atheists.

"The survey found near universal rejection of the transcendent by National Acadamy of Sciences (NAS) natural scientists. Disbelief in God and immortality among NAS biological scientists was 65.2% and 69.0%, respectively, and among NAS physical scientists it was 79.0% and 76.3%. Most of the rest were agnostics on both issues, with few believers. The highest percentage of belief was found among NAS mathematicians (14.3% in God, 15.0% in immortality). Biological scientists had the lowest rate of belief (5.5% in God, 7.1% in immortality), with physicists and astronomers slightly higher (7.5% in God, 7.5% in immortality)."
The survey was done by Nature in 1996.

See that part in bold, agnostic means you dont know, which means that you are infact an atheist because you can not be a theist and be agnostic, because theism requires a belief in a god, but atheism is the lack of a belief in any gods.

tazzygirl -> RE: Where is God ? (12/11/2010 9:49:52 AM)

We have been down this road before. A spiritual belief doesnt require a belief in any god.

SleazeMerchant -> RE: Where is God ? (12/11/2010 9:53:26 AM)

Correct. Atheists can be religious too.

tazzygirl -> RE: Where is God ? (12/11/2010 9:53:58 AM)

Most atheists are. [:D]

SleazeMerchant -> RE: Where is God ? (12/11/2010 9:54:44 AM)

I doubt that.

tazzygirl -> RE: Where is God ? (12/11/2010 9:55:15 AM)

I dont.

SleazeMerchant -> RE: Where is God ? (12/11/2010 9:57:08 AM)

I do :)

tazzygirl -> RE: Where is God ? (12/11/2010 10:00:02 AM)

If you define religious by utilizing god in your definition, than you are using the incorrect definition in this case.

No. I said atheists can be religious too, because there are religions that involve no gods, like some types of buddhism, as an example. If you are trying to say that science is a religion then you are using the incorrect definition in this case.

Ha ha, nice try. Here's the full quote...

Oh fer chrissake, get over yourself. Your problem is, when it comes to religion you are functionally illiterate. You have one conception of what constitutes religion, one conception of what constitutes God, and as far as you are concerned anyone who is religious in a way that doesn't fit your ignorant notions cannot be truly religious, anyone who believes in a conception of God that doesn't fit your narrow ideas cannot believe in God. Not to put too fine a point on it, you're a fucking Fundamentalist. I don't know whether you're a religious fundamentalist or an atheist fundamentalist, but it doesn't much matter. Aside from a comparatively insignificant difference of opinion, it's virtually impossible to tell them apart.

K.

SleazeMerchant -> RE: Where is God ? (12/11/2010 10:17:21 AM)

There is no such thing as an atheist fundamentalist. Atheism is one thing only; lack of a belief in a god.

I never made the claim atheists are religious. I merely agreed with your claim that they are. My point is that they are religious in their denial of any spirituality.

Religious can have more than one meaning. Just as religions can have more than one god. Some can have no gods.

Amazing how that works, huh!

Science without religion is lame, religion without science is blind. ~ Albert Einstein

Haha, nice try, Here's the REST of that quote

I'm not much with people, and I'm not a family man. I want my peace, I want to know how God created this world. I am not interested in this or that phenomenon in the spectrum of this or that element. I want to know His thoughts, the rest are details. The scientist's religious feeling takes the form of a rapturous amazement at the harmony of natural law, which reveals an intelligence of such superiority that, compared with it, all the systematic thinking and acting of human beings is an utterly insignificant reflection.

*bold text done by me*

He's already on record as saying that he didn't believe in a living god. Again and again he talks about the "Religious feeling"

Being religious means you have "a set of beliefs concerning the cause, nature, and purpose of the universe, esp. when considered as the creation of a superhuman agency or agencies"

I said that scientist don't believe in the supernatural, they don't

tazzygirl -> RE: Where is God ? (12/11/2010 10:37:42 AM)

Scientists have a spirituality. Not all religions deal with a god. Man, you are brainwashed, arent you.

Hey that's pretty cool, religous really does have more than one meaning!

Religious

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Possessing, or conforming to, religion; pious; godly; as, a religious man, life, behavior, etc.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Scrupulously faithful or exact; strict.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Belonging to a religious order; bound by vows.

Religion:
A strong belief in a supernatural power or powers that control human destiny.
An institution to express belief in a divine power.
A belief concerning the supernatural, sacred, or divine, and the practices and institutions associated with such belief.
The sum total of answers given to explain humankind’s relationship with the universe.

It is pretty amazing how that works.

And my point is that no, most atheists are actually not "religious" in their denial of spirituality. Most of them will believe anything you tell them, as long as you can prove it.

SL4V3M4YB3 -> RE: Where is God ? (12/11/2010 10:39:28 AM)

It's not by choice that I don't have a faith in god and I realise now that it's not by choice that some people do.

By choice I'd believe in god but by reality I can't. I have never had a strong faith in god as some do, it's never been the norm for me. I'm not one of these atheist converts that have suddenly seen the light through other atheists presenting flawless logic. Religion from the youngest age has never been a part of my life.

This above is why I believe the whole atheist versus theist debate is worthless and is missing the point that we aren't all the same and therefore aren't all convinced of something by the same set of facts. We should just agree that the other person is probably wrong and leave it at that.
