Consider too the the Wall Street crash is directly connected to the University system.  Our best and brightest.

Last chance, idiot boy: how does the wall street crash have any bearing on the UK university system?

(Though your obvious contempt for further education is quite revealing. Did somebody fail their SATs twenty odd years ago? "The universities must be shit: they wouldn't let me in!")

What always strikes me as sad is that our education system can turn out people who think that insulting someone else can stand in for making a sensible argument.

A valid question, pa. Mind explaining, in your own words?

The entire grid is one where we supposedly are educated.  But consider the blunders of wars, wall street, and deficient leadership- most of whom are products of the University system- the best and the brightest-- if this is the absolute best- then that is pathetic.

One has to have a degree to gain entry into the system- yet- this system who was build by degree holders is flawed and collapsing-

The elite 1% get filthy rich- and more and more are homeless and on food stamps.
So how is it we are "all in this together"-  we are not.

The Wall street crash- the repeal of glass steagall is the product of the best and the brightest-   as our the war in Iraq, Aphganistan, and Pakistan.    We could throw in GATT, NAFTA,  CAFTA, out sourcing- and so forth.

Do you not see the flaws?  And if the flaws are not caused by the degreed class- then WHOM are they caused by?

??

Your ball.

Negative elitism and the question stands unanswered.

The bow before the broken down system.  Pay thru the nose.

The price is set at that which the majority are willing to pay.

Your ignorant ramblings are not going to change the reality of market forces and make things cheaper for you.

Keep it up and I am going to give you a really HARD spanking cowboy.  ;-0

I am not sure the degree is financially viable. -- and I mean in the US.  I know many with degrees that have nothing but student loans... and no much in the way of work.

SL4V3M4YB3 -> RE: London Protests Turn Violent With Parliament Under Siege Protesters are now fighting with polic (12/12/2010 7:16:23 AM)

Selection is crucial, people should really ask themselves where they want to be and work back from there. They should take into account competing forces that will prevent them from getting there. Competing forces include: having a degree that the vast majority decided to undertake because it was the most popular subject on leaving school. Three to five years later they then start to wonder why they didn't take a look at their class size and see who they will be competing with in the market place. Sadly picking a subject that you love is only one part of the equation thesedays, it shouldn't be like that but it is.

I agree.    Good points.

SL4V3M4YB3 -> RE: London Protests Turn Violent With Parliament Under Siege Protesters are now fighting with polic (12/12/2010 7:25:29 AM)

I don't want to appear too smug about this because I did all these things that I mentioned above and am not where I'd have liked to have been either (probably most want something better than they have). However I made mistakes along the way and those are my fault, I'm not looking to blame the illuminate for them.

pahunkboy -> RE: London Protests Turn Violent With Parliament Under Siege Protesters are now fighting with polic (12/12/2010 7:35:30 AM)

I did some things exactly right- and some things completely wrong.

Like others- I did the best I knew how to do under the circumstances.

Understand- that I actually am in a good place in my life.   I live well-  (to me)

The fear is that maybe that will slide away.

There is a 4 generation cycle- we are leaving the "unraveling" and soon will enter the "crises"   ( see the 4th turning by Howe and Strauss - for the details )
This cycle is not anyones fault- it just is.

There again- we play the cards we are dealt.

I think we do have the where with all to fix things- but not before alot of anguish.  It wont be pretty.
Time will tell.  Each generation has its challenges.

And what the fuck does any of that have to do with the British university system, or students protesting over a fees hike that the deputy PM has refused to block despite campaigning on that as one of his main election promises?

And many with those loans took them out as a way to live and party while in college. Part of their problem is they believe they are entitled to a college education, then entitled to a great paying job afterwards.. Now, those holding MBA's want to sue the colleges who gave them the degrees for their inability to find a job.

There are no guarentees in life.

Costs for college education can be reduced by a smart student willing to do their financial homework.

It means you people are not capable of governing yourselfs.

right?

or is it bliss and sugar plums?

Either way the tripling of fees is egg on the face of the regents.

The model is flawed and needs to be redone.
The universities are a knowledge industry- and yet- they do not have the knowledge to fix this pathetic mess.
Why?

maybe the knowledge is day old Keynsiasm.

maybe the system is obsolete.

Your best and brightest have fucked up.  as have ours.

The sooner they admit that--  the sooner a remedy can be found.

They manufacture smarts... and yet- no smart solution presents itself to date.

See?

Or maybe you dont.     Only when an honest assessment is rendered can there be any hope of a solution.

Or maybe things are just fine- according to you.

Triple the cost is like a 2/3 currency devaluation.     Silver has tripled....  your Euro has not.... as reflected in the inflation- over priced degree mill.

Show your working out.
How you can drag an economic argument you don't appear to understand into a protest about something specific you're completely ignorant about and then expect anybody to take anything you have to say seriously is a bit puzzling.

I've come to the conclusion he doesn't expect to be taken seriously; I think it's some sort of addiction to being publically humiliated.

That and being nuttier than Chinese chicken salad.

Moonhead -> RE: London Protests Turn Violent With Parliament Under Siege Protesters are now fighting with polic (12/12/2010 9:46:07 AM)

I was thinking more of those chicken satay things: the Thai chicken kebabs covered in peanut sauce?

Which brings us back to full circle- in that according to you the certain party will save you.

All the while that other party sells you out the same.

If knowledge is monetized, the question then is who or what creates the money.  Happily- we in the USA own the print press- we can just make more.

I dare say that the UK resembles Wiemarr at the moment.

3x the cost?  No official inflation.

People will vote with the wallets.
As to the kids in the streets- they should go home.  MIT has classes for free online.    There is one possible remedy.
