LOL... well.. first the premise is wrong. We dont go to "church"

Second, as i have stated, i dont always agree with his actions, but i love him more than my own life.

I turn him in, of course, for both his own benefit, as he clearly needs psychiatric help, and for the community at large.

Fair enough.

Extreme example 2:

Your son has become a Muslim convert, and has decided to press Jihad against the Christian oppressors.

You discover that he has acquired access to confidential Homeland Security files, and now knows all of the ways to sneak through airport security.  Then you discover that his cell has acquired a dirty bomb from the Russians, and he is on his way to the airport with his co-conspirators, on a flight to DC, with the bomb, although he will not be flying only getting them through security.

Do you do anything?

Firm

I tend to think he is leaning more towards agnostic beliefs than anything at this moment.

But, in your scenario, i would turn him in. Not because of god or country, but because i dont wish any harm to come to him. How do i know those fuckers wont kill him after he gets them through security? As far as HLS files, that part would not surprise me. He is a bit of a hack, though he is careful of what he hacks into.

Additionally not one person has mentioned the shithole legacy they are going to leave their descendants but I suppose such an existence on mother earth will be character building in the eyes of the lord.

If family was a true priority for them they'd want to make the only difference that they know for sure will make the life better for future generations.

He is the leader of the cell, and there are further plans to use him, his abilities and his resources in other plans, so he is in no danger.

If you say nothing, there is no danger to him.  Failure to report him will result in the destruction of a large part of DC, and future death and destruction of millions of Americans.  He is not psychologically impaired, or in any real personal danger: he is just committed to his beliefs, and competent in achieving his aims.

LOL

Now you change the parameters. How would i know he is the leader? My point is that regardless of his actions, my actions will always depend on what i know to be his best interests, even if its turning him into the authorities. I do not wear blinders when it comes to my child. He is an amazing kid, who has done some incredibly stupid things. I have always taught him responsibility for his own actions, and its a standard i keep for him.

In my dad's garage, there is a sign that he hung 30 years ago. "If you cant do the time, dont do the crime". A Baretta throw-back for those who knew the show. And pretty much the family moto. accountability and responsibility, they go hand in hand.

These are hypotheticals.

Again, he is an intelligent, competent, and committed Jahidist, who seems to have a plan, and is executing the plan well.  He accepts that he is responsible for his actions, and his plan and actions will result in the death of millions of Americans.

You have the ability to stop it.  Do you?

tazzygirl -> RE: Self-identification (12/11/2010 11:59:27 AM)

Of course i do.

Accountability and responsibility.

truckinslave -> RE: Self-identification (12/11/2010 12:00:15 PM)

"God, unit, (family now) corp and country "

Thats interesting. I put my beloved 82nd under country, but I can see a jarhead getting it wrong!!!  [:D]

truckinslave -> RE: Self-identification (12/11/2010 12:01:59 PM)

"Are people restricted to those three? ":

Hell no. Freefire zone. Your priorities are your own.

Jeffff -> RE: Self-identification (12/11/2010 12:02:20 PM)

I wonder how God feels about firing people for How they vote?

I wonder how God feels about taking away their ability to work and perhaps give to the Church of their choice.

I wonder how God feels about a silly little man judging others?

ThatDamnedPanda -> RE: Self-identification (12/11/2010 12:02:52 PM)

I'm still very curious to hear just exactly why some people place their religion above their family. I'd really love to know how that breaks down in your thought process,  if anyone would care to take a stab at it. I find it increasingly interesting that nobody seems willing - or perhaps able - to explain it.

RCdc -> RE: Self-identification (12/11/2010 12:03:53 PM)

Hello Mr Firmhand [:)]

I am a bit lost on the scenarios ... I mean it's like one of those things surely... tazzy (in this case) will do the best for her child regardless... and regardless how extreme the scenario gets.... depending on her ethics/commitments at the time?

Wouldn't something more akin to the whole god/abe thing be far more telling? Or maybe a 'which child would you save scenario?

tazzygirl -> RE: Self-identification (12/11/2010 12:05:13 PM)

even that would be hard considering i have only one child.

Perhaps it isn't that they are unwilling or unable... like me, they could have very little time.  As Firm and I are almost out the door to do some shopping, I'll try to give a little insight into one possible answer.

My "faith" is the backbone of who I am.  It shapes my thoughts and my actions.  Putting that part of me before anything else helps to ensure that everything else in my life gets the best from me.

"I wonder how God feels about a silly little man judging others? "

Meditate on it, perhaps.

I have no clue, Panda, though i know this question isnt aimed at just me.

It's no different to suicide bombers Panda... or students demonstrating. People fight for what they believe in most and become selfish.

Not neccessarily tazzy. I could probably offer up an 'extreme' or two that could be considered.[;)]

LOL... shoot! Im game.

RCdc -> RE: Self-identification (12/11/2010 12:12:43 PM)

heh tazzy... I may... if Mr Firmhand get's back to me and doesn't have the same idea himself. I don't want to mess with his ideas!

flcouple2009 -> RE: Self-identification (12/11/2010 12:16:41 PM)

Tazzy,

I think the fact that he needs to come up with these absurd scenarios and suggest that putting the family first would mean silly things like covering up the fact that your child committed a hideous crime speaks volumes about Firm.
