ORIGINAL: LadyConstanze Actually, you know that the Welsh and Scottish usually get along just fine, let's say the Welsh, Irish, Scottish and Cornish have one thing in common, they all tend to dislike the English (my other half is Welsh), then you have a rather large Asian population, since I don't know the correct term for people with dark skin (can't call them African because a lot of them are Caribbean) lots of them too... I'd say London and NYC are pretty much alike, massive melting pots... And then of course you have Birmingham, the city in the UK where the whites (are we still allowed to say white - because black is now a forbidden word, even piano teachers can't call the black keys black anymore, the nursery rhyme Baa Baa Black Sheep has been outlawed - can you talk about PC weirdness?) are in the minority... I do know that y'all get along just fine (except for that N.Ireland thing you got going. - YES! I do know that [the Republic of] Ireland is NOT a part of UK.) One can certainly conceive of a country called "The United States of Britain" comprising 4 states: England, Northern Ireland, Scotland, and Wales. (In alphabetical order.) Wiki says: "Outside the country [USA], "Yankee" or "Yank" is slang for anyone from the United States. It is especially popular among Britons, and may sometimes be considered offensive, though it is by no means universally used pejoratively." Thus, the OP question might be turned around to be "Do you Brits find the Welsh to be as stingy as their reputation? I've been there on a student grant and after too many experiences in Wales of penny-pinching, I just had to ask."
