The wife of my boss is a teacher and I mentioned it to her because I was simply baffled, and she said there is a lot of stupidity going on, all it takes is that one minority or rather one person from a minority complains about a term and they all start to panic and start issuing stupid orders to avoid a discrimination law suit at any cost.
The classic example that went through the media not long ago was that it is perfectly alright for a Muslim working in a book shop to refuse selling bibles due to their religious feelings, fair enough, I only wonder what would happen if say a white Christian would refuse to sell the Koran to a Muslim, I bet there would be hell to pay and he would be called a racist. Or if you look at women in bhurkas (sp) with the funny eye covering driving cars, I'm frightened because their field of vision is greatly impaired, if they want to dress like ninjas, up to them, but then please don't drive cars, but again that would be racists and against their religious beliefs. I really don't get that...
Frankly I get a bit worried because most of the muslim women I know (and see) are very timid drivers, and whilst I attribute this to cultural temperament, they don't have a chance to develop good reflexes. I've gotten sick of the times I've been in a hurry, some Pakistani woman in full religious garb is driving, and she feels she HAS to plod at 20mph, and I don't sound my horn because I know she'll freeze up with that, "Oh my God a MAN is looking at me!!" look of horror in her rear-view, she won't pull over and she won't accelerate. Her natural impulse is to think she's in a dangerous situation and hit the brake - and on a road where I can't overtake, this is the LAST thing I want.
My neighbours are moslems, and lets' just say I'm delighted we all have off-street parking. The wife, lovely woman though she is, has paid twice for smashing into the 2ft-high brick wall that separates our front drives. The first THREE times I let her off, at which point enough was enough.
Come to think of it, it was her husband who settled the brickie bill...which I would even have paid myself, if he then invested in some fucking driving lessons for her!!
Oh, my mate just texted me back....let's just say I can't repeat his words. He's Jewish, btw, make of that whatever you will.
I have no problem with the religion of any driver, but those whole ninja outfits, they can't bloody see a thing, I find that ridiculous.
I don't know how the school system works and how muc autonomy schools have in their decisions, I can't call her now as it would be a bit impolite to call around midnight and ask, but she's teaching at one of the posh public schools here and since the job is considerably better paid than working just for any school, I can understand that despite finding such a new order ridiculous, she's going with it rather than risking trouble at work and them finding reasons to "let her go" - we all know that if you want to get rid of somebody you find reasons, you don't have to tell them the real reasons (for which they possibly could get sued). We both found the idea of racist piano keys amusing, at the end of the night (and towards the end of our wine bottle) we were discussing which shades of grey might be acceptable and which ones could possibly be offensive.
