he has been using the term to take shots at the birthers.

Really, RML? 'Cuz it sure seems like the term gets thrown into anything where he wants to slander conservatives in general, or any criticism of President Obama's policies and practices.

There was a time when I might have thought you were capable of seeing such a distinction, but I'm past such misunderestimations.

As a matter of fact, I'm using the term whenever I talk about the Kenyan in any context on here.
Nul points.

I think they already have another thorn tree in reserve, there is one is the abbey I think, grown from a cutting of which the church takes chunks off and sells to pilgrims at extortionate prices, so I suppose nothing has changed in that respect. The best place in Glastonbury is the Chalice gardens where one may buy Glastonbury well water, or get for free outside. The water is red with iron.

But as to the thorn tree that has been cut down, well, the roots are still there and that is all that matters really, but to be honest, I am surprised it has lasted this long, it was never particularly well guarded for such a holy relic, in fact just a low fence the last I saw of it.

It isn't the original thorn tree in any case: that one was destroyed by Puritans either during or after the civil war.

As you say, there's plenty of other trees grown from cuttings dotted about the area. It would be a shame if they did feel that they had to clamp down on security for the things more heavily after this.

Well, the thorn that was growing were it was was said to be from Joseph of Arimathea's staff that was rammed into the ground and a tree grew from that, when he was supposed to have come to England with a then young Jesus, whether it is which I personally doubt, but I recognise  it is the story that is more important, not what relics exist. Like the associated belief, people will choose to believe or not.

But it always was in Britain that relics from the past were just there, left alone unguarded, except for stonehenge that is, but there is more to that one as it seems representative of a few ideas, it always stuns me the amount of authorital force that comes out to guard it from the populace at certain times of year.

Old Wormwood must be behind it.

Stonehenge is guarded because the MOD owns it, is it not?
