I found nationmaster always quite reliable, but if you care to post a link to the UN data?

Seriously, it depends what you call a crime, some things in one country might just be an offense in others they are considered a crime.

un statistics link from here

Assault is pretty much the same everywhere, and the numbers I quoted were reported by police. You might try argue that assaults are so commonplace they just dont get reported, but not to the extent of triple the rate.

One obvious problem with nationmaster is many of its statistics are woefully out of date, including the assault per capita numbers, which are 10-12 years old.

I'll have to say that the reasons behind the Second Amendment still stand. Americans as a whole should possess the means to overthrow their government if it becomes to onerous. That's what the militias were all about. The laws we have are a compromise between that necessity and the desire to keep the majority of citizens safe from their fellow citizens not accepting of rights. But yes, in this case the discussion boils down to where the average citizen sees the power coming from. The average American citizen sees it coming from him/herself, from my experience, the average European sees it as coming from the top, be that elected or hereditary. I prefer our way, warts and all, and I am not a gun owner.

Wrong, but thank you for playing :)

Never said you were average.

You're still wrong.

pahunkboy -> RE: Are the British more law abiding than Americans? (1/3/2011 2:00:20 PM)

Consider too that the Brits are inherently obedient to the Crown.

So just out of interest, how many more revolutions have there been in American history than in British history?
(I suggest that you google "Oliver Cromwell" before answering.)

You are a deeply disturbed moron.

PS: You claimed to have put me on "ignore". Lying yet again, I see.

Yeah kiddo--   be sure to use the same 232 years as a  measure.

Moonhead -> RE: Are the British more law abiding than Americans? (1/3/2011 2:13:53 PM)

That was sort of my point: in the same 232 years, you've had fuck all.
The British have a long and noble history of civil disobedience. You people, on the other hand, shoot students if they riot.

(And btw: if you're going to claim that your country's government is ruled by the Queen through Goldman Sachs, going on to claim that the Brits are more tightly controlled by the NWO than yourselves barely qualifies as bullshit.)

..only if you count the Irish.

The Brits are a docile and domesticated bunch.

Is it true you're over the age of 20?

If so, boy have you ever got issues. Even more than are obvious.

With a gun you can blast away for as long as you've got ammo...

That becomes a little more difficult to manage if one or two of the people you're shooting at are armed.

I suppose if it were possible to assure that nobody would have guns, there might be something to be said for that option. But as a practical matter, it's really not. Guns, booze, drugs, you name it; they will get in, and the wrong people will have them. Too, I am not sanguine about the mindset some people have which allows them to become so enamored of the flawless beauty of their utopian visions that they are willing to impose them on everyone else by whatever means necessary.

K.

Moonhead -> RE: Are the British more law abiding than Americans? (1/3/2011 2:28:00 PM)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but weren't you claiming before Christmas that the houses of parliament had been besieged by a bunch of undergraduates?

A heineously obstreperous gang of lads, aren't you brits?

DCWoody -> RE: Are the British more law abiding than Americans? (1/3/2011 2:33:22 PM)

"outmoded, out-of-date section of that otherwise fine document, the Constitution."

Well now we really disagree, I reckon that section of the us constitution is the one I don't see the need to change....everyone these days has a bill of rights of some sort codified. IIRC the French even have a remarkably similar right to guns in their constitution.

"Assault is pretty much the same everywhere,"
Lol.

Moonhead -> RE: Are the British more law abiding than Americans? (1/3/2011 2:36:06 PM)

He was coming out with all sorts of ridculous blather about the student protests: Parliament under siege, half of London in flames, the army being called out to put down the student revolt, like that.

This is a bit of a u turn for him, and he still hasn't explained why if Americans love freedom more than the Brits, no effort has been made to overthrow the stooge of Goldman Sachs goverment with the bulldog licking piss off a nettle's hand up its arse.

pahunkboy -> RE: Are the British more law abiding than Americans? (1/3/2011 2:38:11 PM)

Goldman needs to be overthrown- and everything connected to it.

Moonhead -> RE: Are the British more law abiding than Americans? (1/3/2011 2:45:46 PM)

So you weren't claiming that there was a massive riot in London, then?
