Great

Now we can't even agree on what other people are saying.
Focus here-
"Mortality decline as a precondition for fertility decline forms the cornerstone of the theory."

Translation- fewer infant deaths LEADS TO having fewer babies.

"Although the theory has experienced a great deal of critical analysis, it remains a useful framework for discussing the dynamics of fertility and mortality changes. "

Translation- Although not perfect, the theory does work and continues to be useful.

It may form a cornerstone of the theory without being the actual cause. Ye olde correlation and causation connundrum. Economic prosperity without an accompanying decline in mortality is not explcitly rejected here.

More importantly this theory doesnt even address your proposition, which was specifically about INFANT mortality. Nothing in your quote says anything about INFANT mortality, which I still posit has negligible influence. We have long passed the point where there is material positive selection for the species simply from pumping out babies.

In fact, though it is an even more egregious hijack, I would argue that the species has reached the point where there will be no significant evolutionary changes.

So how else would you describe the rocketing growth of type two diabetes and obesity if not an evolutionary response to environmental changes?

Wilbur-

Have you considered one of the reasons people disagree with you so often is that you may not be comprehending what they're writing?

"In this regard, the classical wisdom often describes INFANT mortality as a decisive factor influencing parents to reduce their fertility."

It's been there from the first time I quoted this paper.

You can posit whatever you like but it remains a theory unperturbed by any data....

And Ive already pointed out that to you that your quote is about the theory of demographic transition which is based on economics NOT infant mortality. The mention of "classical wisdom" and infant mortality is not part of demographic transition. The "cornerstone" reference is NOT to infant mortality, and just by calling it "classical wisdom" without any support is a tacit dismissal of it.

Try comprehending what you post.

Ah Wilbur

If only life's problems could be so easily solved, by simply redefining words so that you're always correct, maybe the world would be a better place....well, your world maybe....

From my perspective- this isn't debate, this is bathos and is a waste of time.

Well, if you are claiming that Ive redefined anything, then it certainly is a waste of time.

I'm still waiting for a reply on how the fast escalating obesity and diabetes rates aren't an evolutionary adaptation, sweetie.

In what sense are they adaptive?  By what mechanism are they naturally selected for?  Are they the result of a recent change to the human genome (i.e., are they a heritable trait which has appeared due to a recent genetic mutation?)?  Or, on the other hand, are these traits relatively ancient and are simply manifesting now because of a changed environment (unrestricted access to high fat/high carb foods et cetera)?

The latter. An adaptive change rather than a genetic mutation, but still an example of natural selection in action.

FR

Bill Gates wants to register his toenail clippings. He is nothing but a bean counter with a slightly above average level of computer skills, as well as thievery. Big fuckin' deal.

T^T

So I suppose the fact that he dropped out of law school to form a successful software company doesn't make him one of those Horatio Alger success stories you Americans are queer for, then?
How strange. I though the Kenyan was the only self made man in America who was fair game for abuse at this point...
