How do you pronounce Domme? (Full Version)

I thought I would put this in the "Ask a Mistress" section, since technically, you are the Dommes.  I learned that Domme was pronounced the same as "Dom."  But I have heard other people pronounce it as "Dom-AY".

As far as I know it's a made-up word (yes, all words were originally made up) to differentiate between a male and female Dom.  It seems like "Dom-ay" would be more helpful in conversation because you would already eluding to the fact the Dom is female.  If you were to prounounce it as "Dom" that could leave the sex of the person in question, leading people to feel the need to qualify, "female Dom". 

Which do you prefer?  Why?  Or do you just not care?

A good number of Dominant women will tell you that the pronunciation which sounds like Dom-ay is like fingernails on a chalkboard.

When you pronounce the word "femme" you don't say it like the word fem-ay, do you?

Depends on the Domme really, I will give you a short list so you can jus expand upon as you learn.

LadyPact- Oh Goddess my Goddess.
LaTigress - Ouch! Owe! Yes Ma'am.
SexyBossyBBW - Command me my goddess *scrape grovel lick*
KC- *gulp* Your wish is my command my Lady.

So, as you can see that it is, in fact, spelled Domme, it has many pronunciations.

Ignore FukinTroll, notnewnot, he tends not to take important matters seriously and jokes at inappropriate times.

Short Dommes - those under 5' 5", prefer the 'dommie' pronunciation and will be especially impressed if you use the unabbreviated term, which is 'Dommiewommey' - or 'Dommiewommeykins' if they're under the age of 25. However, all femdoms would prefer, most of all, to be referred to as 'girls', 'girlies', or 'skirt'.

To notnewnotexp:  Here's a serious answer for you.  The word "domme" is pronounced "dom" (as in dominant).  Adding the "ay" on the end isn't well received by any kinkster I've met who has experience with language.  True, it is a made-up word, but it's my understanding it follows the traditions of French, masculine and feminine pronunciation, and this is a very common understanding amongst experienced kinksters.

Yup. Because IRL it's the same word - in most cases it's obvious if you're talking about a man or a woman. Unlike the internet, where everyone's gender is suspect until they show their tits [8D]

Which is so affected it's painful. I have heard someone say it like that *once*. I managed to keep a straight face, but it was a close-run thing.
