Nah, I just discovered Top-posting; easier to read, and I likes it! [even before I knew its name!]
[sm=dancer.gif][sm=writing.gif]
Hmm, although I guess using a strap-on IS bottom-posting . . .

Agreed.
But worst of all in the Legion Of The Clueless are those who post replies above the post they're answering.
I'd cheerfully hack their heads off with a rusty knife.

Geez, never heard anyone say "dommé."

I'm chiming in 'cause I have a degree in linguistics.

Gawd, RF. Are you *trying* to get a whole page full of posters to use one of your own lines against you? [:D]

So long as I made the line first, I'm sanguine ;)

See, I don't know that I agree with you, Mr Fugue*. If you're following the thread and it's reasonably straightforward then it's pretty clear what they're replying to. I can't say I tend to notice either way.

*I've noticed on this thread that I seem to have started calling male posters. Mr [Second/DominantHalfOfTheirName] Good habit? Bad habit? Ferociously irritating habit that will lead to my head being hacked off with a rusty knife? Opinions welcome.

If you were right I'd agree with you.

Do you start a book at the end and read backwards?

I'm not fussed either way, but I don't see how anyone could say it was a bad thing, IMHO at least.

No, but if I've already started reading a book I don't read all the way from the beginning each time - I pick up from where I left off.

That's the true analogy.

Well given that you're probably the poster geographically closest to me who owns a rusty knife, that makes me feel better. :p

Except, if you think about it, it isn't anything of the sort.

The "picking up from where you left off" analogy is akin to trimming extraneous quotes, not reversing the order in which you read lines of text.

Pfffft. I'm about as likely to harm another human being for other than self-defence purposes as I am to become the next pope.

And I'm not even Catholic.

PS: I do not own any rusty knives. All my knives (they're for cooking with!) are kept clean and very sharp.

Well, yes and no. I suppose it depends on if you think of the quotes as providing continuity (which I'm guessing is how you think of them) or as providing a reference as to what the poster is responding to (which is how I think of them). To me they're basically a more detailed version of the 'in reply to' line - that's at the bottom, so in my case why would it matter if the quotes were too?

Ah, but were you a member of the Hitler youth? [8D][8D][8D]
(Does that count as a loss under Godwin's law?)

Haha! You're like my dad. If the knife-grinders come round and he's out, they come back. Everyone else gives them lawnmower blades and garden shears; he gives them Globals. [:D]

Ooo, I have no doubt.

Can I get on your ignore list, too? Based on your posts, I'm guessing that's a good place to be. Just make sure you make a big show of announcing it. That makes you look ever so cool.

The French word "forte," used in English as in "Drop shots are his forte" is pronounced FORT in French. In the U.S., it mostly pronounced "FOR-TAY." People seem to think that adding "AY" to the end of a word makes it more French, whereas it only makes it more Fonz.

Wow! I did the fetlife for a minute an a half. Gave me the sense I was back in kindergarten... that thar jus confirmed it.

Haha! That's not fetlife's fault - that's because my RL kink friends have a combined mental age of five. I only keep them around because they make me laugh...

I'm not. Seriously, I'm not cutesy. I have lesbian hair and piercings and a tattoo of a half-naked girl on my thigh. I don't think I own a single piece of pink clothing.

Sometimes I want to kill Jeffffff with a spade for starting the whole 'cute' thing. Surely that's not a cute thought? [8D]

*bats eyelashes*

How you doin'?

SexyBossyBBW -> RE: How do you pronounce Domme? (1/28/2011 9:01:19 PM)

LOL...   I don't know, if the people who pronounce it dom-may, use forte often.   Sure it's a borrowed word, but fort(e) would sound funny.   That's not his fort?!
I don't believe Domme is a french word, as much as a kink world generated, female version of Dom (which is fine with me).    M

I've been on BBs and UseNet a long time; seriously, it gets to be a visual abortion in quick time if people start adding at top, middle or wherever. Plus, for some reason, the ones who insist on doing it are almost always "look what a rebel I am!" types, and generally vacuous, so it's no loss to bin them.

My personal preference is for Henkels, though there's nothing wrong with Globals. I'd never, ever, let anyone else grind a knife of mine. Flat-section diamond-steel is the way forward.

I realise fully how deeply tragic that makes me look :)

LillyBoPeep -> RE: How do you pronounce Domme? (1/29/2011 5:28:29 AM)

forte is Italian isn't it?
like crescendo and mezzoforte =p

Domme is prnounced like "Dom." it's pseudo-french (i.e. NOT real french) so it follows french rules. like "homme," "pomme," "nous somme," -- in french the last "e" isn't pronounced. the italian form is Domina (right?) so italian rules don't apply to "Domme."

there is no reason to EVER say "Dom-may." EVER.

heh. I have to say, I've always pronounced it "dom" (same as for Dom) - the first time I heard someone say "dom-ee" (at a munch), I had to ask them to repeat themselves. And even then I was a bit shocked and appalled :)

"Dom-ay" just sounds like someone trying to be French for the hell of it, and we don't want that! ;)

... unless of course someone actually is French, in which case we may pity them, but we don't condemn them*

*I think I should make clear here that that's a joke - I love France (except for Paris) and the French. But it's always good to take the piss out of them :)

ETA: I think that, if people want a different-sounding name for a female dominant, your "Domina" suggestion sounds nicer on the ear than anything else I've heard so far.

LillyBoPeep -> RE: How do you pronounce Domme? (1/29/2011 5:36:29 AM)

the first time i heard it i just thought "wow, have you ever read a book?"
hehe =p
