bed-making and general bedroom tidiness: i'm thinking about this stuff because i'm getting a new bed as "reward" for working a ridiculously physical, ridiculously difficult-at-times job. =p haha i've had a crappy futon to sleep on since i moved and i finally said "enough is enough" -- you work to live, right? not live to work. i got a spectacular deal that i couldn't have even matched if i'd gone to thrift stores and put together a piecemeal bed. it also has lots of clearance so i'm going to be using the space under it as storage space. anyway, about bed making -- do you have a certain way that you make your/your Master's bed? special corners? pillows arranged a certain way? or do you just pile it all up and sort it out before going to bed each night? any tips or resources to share for learning some sophisticated bed making styles? ^_^

Many of my Dominants preferred top sheets and blankets un-tucked, but smoothed out. One liked the bedding rolled to the end of the bed during the day to "air out" the mattress. There is the military/ hospital corners look and the luxury hotel look. Personally, i prefer loosely tucked-in corners, simple, tidy beds--not into the millions of pillows thing or dust ruffles as they seem to just be clutter. Right now i have one body pillow in lieu of a back board and one king sized pillow. It has a zip-closed pillow cover as, to my chagrin, i'm a bit of a drooler.[&o] i love duvet covers though, to go over my comforter, sort of addicted to them as a decorating device. eta: There's nothing like a turned-down corner to make me feel content about my home. i do that for myself a lot, especially if i'm anticipating a stressful day out of the house.

He doesn't care one way or the other. I can't sleep if the covers are tightly tucked in so no hospital corners here.

I have a platform bed, so I tuck everything in around all edges, and recently, I've been draping a plain white comforter (no duvet) on top. Gives me a cleaner, more minimal (almost hotel-like) look--the white pops nicely against the dark brown wood of the bed and the tomato red wall behind it. If anyone has any good tips on how to fold a fitted sheet....I've never been able to do this properly. It always looks like a balled up mess.

Congrats on getting the opportunity to clean for that Pro-Domme, hausboy. i struggled with fitted sheets, myself, until i realized once you tuck flat the elastic parts into each other, you get a pretty good square. This is a good example. i just noticed a "related" link along the left row. Excuse me, please, while i watch the "how to fold a thong" video. eta: Ohmagawd, drawer organizers for her color organized thongs![&:]

hehehe thanks SexyBossyBBW ^_^ i tend to really like the fluffy, cozy hotel look myself. i adore pillows and usually have more than 4 of them anyway. =p i also have a black mesh canopy, and it becomes like my own private oasis in the desert. =p wooden platform beds are really nice looking with hospital corners -- sounds very neat and cozy, hausboy. and i hope you enjoyed your cleaning service for the Pro Domme. ^_^ i didn't learn about duvet covers until 2006, so i haven't given them much thought, but i imagine they would be handy for changing the color/mood of your room fairly easily. ^_^

Good morning, and try this trick; fold the sheet in half then tuck the elastic corners into each other like they are spooning, fold in half and do this again. Now straighten and flatten that end with all the elastic corners and then do the same with the rest of the sheet. This works best if you fold the fitted sheet on a flat surface. Now if that still does not help fold that hateful fitted sheet and tuck it with the rest of the set into one of the matching pillow cases. Better still, if it is for someone who likes their linen closet very tidy you can sew bahs to hold each set or use those plastic jumbo ziplocs or even space bags.

It never occurred to me that YouTube would have not one but about ten videos on the subject! AWESOME. Thanks BoPeep and PetMonkey-- I did enjoy cleaning for her--the first cleaning is always the toughest. Not only to get a baseline clean, but learning the quirks of a new house. I definitely need to go back to really do some detailing--I didn't get to really clean as thoroughly as I would have liked. She's a delightful Domme, so I'm thrilled to be able to do this for her. She has some other boy candidates--and since I can only commit to once a month due to my other commitments, I do feel just a teeny bit competitive that I want to do a way better job than the other boys [:)]

~FR~ My favorite things are a good cookbook, Dawn dishwashing soap, vacuum cleaners, window cleaner, you name a cleaning product and I will find some way to use it. Oh and liquid laundry soaps. I love, love, LOVE to do laundry. I like Dawn for dish soap because Dawn doubles as a great grease stain remover for clothing. Squirt it on immediately and scrub with your fingernail then rinse. Then do it again a half hour before you wash it in the laundry. Oh, and if you can find it, Dawn Power Dissolver is good too on all sorts of hard to get out things on dishes. Also, Easy Off is good to clean the burner drip pans with. They look great. The generic brand of oven cleaner you can get at Dollar Stores....not so good. ~sweetsub~

WooHoo for Dawn, i used to use it to pretreat greasy laundry too. I trick I've used on a oily battub after a bath with all the good stuff is to scrub it with shampoo for oily hair, it does a better job than any tub cleaner I've tried.

i love that about Dawn too =p it's really handy and i really like multipurpose things. plus it kinda helps keep down clutter of cleaning supplies, if you have a few products that will do more than one thing. a good cookbook is great to have, too. ^_^

So i went and purchased Dawn "with power scrubbers"and now i have the worst dishpans hands of my life. What were those "power scrubbers" anyway? Ah well, those pots are mighty clean. If anyone has tips on cleaning an oven without getting chemical burns or using just baking soda + elbow grease, i'm all ears.

do you have an allergy that prevents you from wearing gloves? i use my washing gloves to clean all sorts of things; nice to have a barrier betwixt you and the chemicals, when you have to use them.

Latex alergies are not uncommon. Buy nitrile gloves instead of latex is the usual solution. Notrile doesn't dissolve in paint solvent either like latex gloves do. It took 25 years of wearing latex gloves at work for me to develope a sensitivity to latex. These days I use nitrile. Other advantages to nitrile is that there is more tactile sensitivity... they are actualy thinner and body heat makes the nitrile conform to the hand shape. Stefan

No, i don't have an allergy to latex--i might have an allergy to remembering to wear gloves though. =} It's been a long time since i needed gloves when washing dishes--those "power scrubbers" in the Dawn i used are strong, it's been awhile since my hands were dry enough to warrant Cornhusker's lotion. Note to self: Do more gardening this Spring. As for oven cleaner, last time i used it i wore full Chem student lab regalia and still managed to get a chemical burn. Perhaps i shouldn't be trusted around the stuff. The baking soda thing works okay. If you do it often enough or don't cook much and don't splatter on the sides, door and ceiling of the oven. It does take a bit of elbow grease otherwise. i wonder if the power scrubbers in the Dawn i have would damage the surface of the oven. Nitrile gloves are great, i've used them at work. i like them even though i don't have an allergy to the latex--specifically because of the sensitivity thing, i have had nerve damage in the past that made my hands slightly unreliable for clutching objects. Expensive for everyday household use though, but then since i'm sorta' doofie about remembering to use them, they might be a good idea. i remember to use gloves when i clean my turtle's tank. gag* Otherwise, i use mild cleaners and i skip them.
