Whatever you think of the quality and content, I think it's great that videos like this can give greater exposure - and implicit acceptance - to our happy kinks. Thank you Rihanna.



<Thinks: so many profiles have a sexy pic but are created by sad nobodies hiding in basements. What fun if Rihanna were already here with us, hiding behind a profile facade of a sad nobody. Should I perhaps trawl through such profiles just in case? Unconfirmed rumour has it the delightful lady is a switch - an awful lot of profiles to search ....>

I confess~ I am she! Nah, not really, but I do have one of her songs as a ring tone. I keep forgetting to actually answer the call, as I enjoy the song [:D] Even that song has undertones of S&M ("...Just gonna stand there and watch me burn? That's alright because I love the way it hurts...")

Someone posted that her video was banned in 11 countries. I haven't researched the validity of this statement, but since controversy sells all I can say is go Rhianna! She can spank her puppy all the way to the bank.

It is interesting to see pop culture's take on S&M, as well as mainstream media's response to it. I do think S&M is becoming referenced more and more in various mediums. It appears to be villainized less, to an extent. There still remains a great deal of scorn and ridicule displayed in shows that touch upon BDSM.

I would LOVE for someone to actually touch upon the beauty and serenity that can be seen in the face of a bottom in thrall of subspace, or capture that look of adoration that passes in a glance between a slave and his/her Master. There's sensuality and captivating energy that is always lacking in how S&M is portrayed by various mediums.

Except that song was about domestic violence and women who can't get out of bad relationships and keep going back over and over again......"next time this happens is the last time".....I thought it was rather appropriate having her singing considering her experiences with bad relationships.

Good point, and very true - which is actually NOT what S&M is about. I retract my previous statement. I have to wonder what in the world I was thinking, or not thinking as the case may be.

I agree.At very minimum,this new video by Rihanna,at least gives BDSM greater exposure in the mainstream society.Anything that can do that,is a plus.

Does it...or does it give the trappings of fetish wear and bdsm images exposure? It's easy enough to throw on a latex dress and take your guy for a walk on a leash, but is that just a kinky image put out to sell a song? Controversy sells. Just ask Madonna.

I have to think I'm not the only one who kind of enjoys the illicit off-the-beaten-path nature of BDSM, no? I'm not saying I enjoy having to have the "not domestic abuse" talk with friends and occasionally family of subs with absurd regularity, but at the same time it's kind of nice to be set apart from the rest of the world.

Hey, it's got nothing to do with being old. I'm barely 20 and I can't stand this bubble gum crap either. But if it's good for the lifestyle, I guess I give her props.

This is the most God-Awful video in any case, and certainly not the sort of thing to give anything like informed exposure to the vanilla world about what the bdsm world is like. Well, not my corner of it at least! Its Sunday paper sleaze version. Cheap tack. The only thing half way decent about it is the shot of her arse clad in the pvc catsuit. But then, any woman's arse looks good in a pvc catsuit..or is that me again........Well, that's my opinion and I'm sticking to it! And another thing: in case you didn't notice, I don't like it!

Watched it with the sound off as he's doing some paperwork.

Seemed to be filled with media-led, visual cliches.

Nothing in it made me think of my love-filled, very real d/s relationship.

I think we can do without such negative publicity personally.

However, the words may have made a difference and explained how bdsm isn't all about wearing pvc and ball gags, or being covered in cling film, so I'm happy to be corrected.
