This just in...

Losing patience, Obama challenges Egypt's leaders

Funny how Obama quit kissing foreign leaders' shoes and groveling at their feet only to dictate what must be done to please their superior.

Funny how he is damned if he does and damned if he doesn't.

No matter what he does you will be opposed to it.

Rule, you're catching on!
Sometimes it's better to say *nothing* and this was obviously one of those times. Obama (was) damned if he did and damned if he didn't and he should have known that! Why didn't he? If you don't know what to say don't say anything! Simple.
I guess they don't teach that at Columbia or Harvard U anymore.
Just because it's an "old" school doesn't mean it's a good school.

Clinton was the first black President, and the first female President is already in the White House.

mnottertail -> RE: What is the Muslim Brotherhood (2/11/2011 1:27:27 PM)

Michelle Obama?

Wow.  Ya think?

Dnomyar -> RE: What is the Muslim Brotherhood (2/11/2011 3:31:50 PM)

I dont think she has the slightest interest in being president. Mabey Hilliary will ask her to be vp so she can get elected.

Racist? not even tangentially close. You'll have to explain that to me. Miffed that who isnt a Republican?

Politesub53 -> RE: What is the Muslim Brotherhood (2/11/2011 4:48:06 PM)

So calling a white president black isnt a racial slur....... What world do you live in ?

Miffed at Clinton and Obama not being Republicans, I didnt feel something so simple needed expalining.

Since you arent US I wont blame you for the first part. Clinton was called the "first black President" by Toni Morrison, the black Nobel and Pultizer prize winning author, and that appellation was commonly used after that, including, I believe, by Clinton himself. So if its racist, talk to them.

Something so STUPID certainly needed explaining. Why the fuck would I want a serial liar and sexual predator or a totally incompetent buffoon in the GOP? Its hard enough to find a competent conservative without cluttering the field with them.

Politesub53 -> RE: What is the Muslim Brotherhood (2/11/2011 5:12:31 PM)

Even I, a non American, remember this from Toni Morrison, since you asked me to ask her, I copied it for you.

"People misunderstood that phrase. I was deploring the way in which President Clinton was being treated, vis-à-vis the sex scandal that was surrounding him. I said he was being treated like a black on the street, already guilty, already a perp. I have no idea what his real instincts are, in terms of race."

Which has not the least bit to do with the fact that she called him that and the Dems ran with it.

So you feel it is okay using the term, knowing what her real meaning was ?  I would love a simple yes/no.

Sanity -> RE: What is the Muslim Brotherhood (2/11/2011 6:17:19 PM)

If you think all of that is confusing, now Obama has begun referring to himself as the Gipper.

We send the same message that we send to our allies when we announce deadlines for troop withdrawal....that we are unreliable allies who will buckle under the pressure of public opinion.

Please don’t forget that we live by public opinion...it is our form of government...and who's public opinion should count...yours, mine, or the people of Egypt?

If you agree the people should count then Obama is following the correct course.

I think that's what people with a sense of humor refer to as a joke.

DomKen -> RE: What is the Muslim Brotherhood (2/12/2011 6:10:52 AM)

First conservatives complained that the President didn't support the demonstrators, then it was his support of the demonstrators proved he was a secret muslim , then the fact that he didn't demand Mubarack step down immediately was bad and finally the cons are whining that Obama abandoned an ally of the US.

It's so hypocritical its almost funny.

The money we sent to Egypt was not "stolen." Our government knew exactly what was happening to it, and who it was that was happening it. As far as they were concerned, we were getting exactly what we were paying for - a powerful, relatively stable, secular Islamic nation that was pro-American and on reasonably amicable terms with Israel. I'm not defending the reasoning behind it, but I am saying that was what we were buying all those years, and our government was more than happy to mail off the check every January 1st. Whose bank account it wound up in, they couldn't have cared less.

Panda, you bolstered my point. That's exactly why we need to end all foreign aid.
Exactly how much was Mubarak's salary as president for life that he could amass $50-$70 Billion?
And how incompetant are and were the people in our govt to let this knowingly go on?
If you or I worked for a company and knowingly let something similar happen we'd be fired and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

Pops, I think you're missing my point. It doesn't have anything to do with competence. They didn't fuck up; they knew exactly what they were doing. The main purpose of foreign aid is to keep governments that are friendly to us strong and stable, particularly in strategically important regions of the globe - like the Middle East. The reason we gave Egypt that money was to keep Mubarak in power, plain and simple, and it worked for 30 years.

I'm not defending the practice (or our choice of friends), but from a purely practical standpoint, the money we gave to Egypt was very well-spent, because the United States has benefited greatly from the presence of the Mubarak government over the decades.
