Of course. What other conclusion is possible? They'll probably control access, too - anyone who is opposed to the idea doesn't get to use it, and their kids can grow up to become illiterate goatherds who make grunting noises and point at airplanes.

Yes, I suppose, the current administration is in favor of net neutrality, but I doubt the neocons are. So, I am against it unless they can put a bigger FCC together with broader powers and a neutrality law in place, which is more government.

It took government spending to get everyday electricity into rural areas. Did the government take ownership of power lines in those rural areas?

Yours is the first semi-intelligent response so far, congratulations. A couple of things though, the government isnt paying for anyones power. And if it is, yes the use of such electricity should be tightlyy regulated, should it not?

I guess you are too young to remember the TWA or the Rural Electrification Project. We still get our electricity from private companies and the government doesn't shut it off if a state votes the wrong way

Thats already been addressed above, John Warren. Again, does government owe everyone (and every business) in the country free unlimited and unmonitored electricity?

In the areas they subsidize, they have that right. In the areas where Internet is paid for by private citizens, hell no.

Yeah.....better privatize it, and let free market entrepreneurs sell it to us instead.

do you know how the internet works, before you run your mouth. what is being proposed here is an 'infrastructure', a backbone, like a road, not township grading services.

The government by example builds and administers highways, but you dont see army D8 Cats making grade, it is done by contract to private companies.

You should get at least a very feeble understanding of these things before you post ignorant questions like that. And then comment on whether or not a response is intelligent to something you have just admitted you have no understanding of.

While in an infantile intellect sort of way, the OP had some merit, you have just turned it into a fucking joke and a sour grapes rant to justify your own ideology (which beyond being inchoate is also puerile).

Possibly...it might end up something like public/cable tv, where the public stuff is regulated but you can pay for just about anything you care to see.

Question for you - with the US in the state it's in now - dismal education, severe urban decay, behind many other countries in math and science...is creating this infrastructure to modernize the US worth the risk of possible government censorship?

The 96 telecom act- was passed so the telecoms could build the information superhighway.

What happened? We paid for this already.

the 96 telecom act has nothing whatsoever to do with this, it was interconnectivity, collocation and number portability, nothing to do with internet.
