Wow. $48,000/ yr for a job that comes with 15 weeks of vacation is chump change? Who knew?

It's not paid vacation time, you'll find.

It's obviously not forbidden by the Wisconsin State Constitution, ergo it is constitutional. As Rich points out, it's a mechanism that for whatever reason or reasons is built into the Constitution, and whether or not this was the intended reason is immaterial. It's allowed, therefore it's legitimate. However extreme it may seem.

You have got to be kidding me.

I will bet that the Wisconsin State Constitution does not have an article forbidding its cities receiving an H-bomb. Or bringing in its own Typhoid Mary.

Probably because it's not necessary, seeing as how both of these scenarios are already covered under state, local, and/or federal statute.

If the Governor is allowed to have state troopers gather and return these senators, then it is apparent that they are doing something illegal.

That doesn't mean it's illegal. If you think it is, you'll have to cite the statute you think it violates.

Again, what specific statute, bylaw, or constitutional clause are they violating? You can't just say, "well, I don't like it, so it must be illegal."

As I have said so many times, libs are in fact much more disposed to violence...

Moonhead -> RE: SCOTT WALKER for President (2/19/2011 5:30:53 AM)

And (also as many times in the past) you've failed to provide any evidence, or even a single example for your sweeping statement.

truckinslave -> RE: SCOTT WALKER for President (2/19/2011 5:32:37 AM)

"This has been happening since Obama got in the white house"

Bull. Shit.

Mobs in front of 0bama0s house?
Wishes here that a mob would drag him into the street and beat him senseless?
Republicans denying Dems a quorom in either House or Senate?

Nah. Not so much.

Shall I repost my long list of right wing violence from the last couple of years, it has grown since the last time I posted it, or will you slink away valiantly pretending multiple people haven't callled you out?

The bachelors and teaching certificate are simply the beginning. They also have to pursue continuing education which is more than most anyone except lawyers and doctors.

Most anyone in the medical profession has to have continuing credit to renew licensure. Some states even require barbers, stylists and nail technicians to have those as well.

Nursing graduates with a 2 year degree take the same boards as a BS degreed nurse. They get the same license. They get the same starting salary. And its a lot more than these teachers.

If the Governor is allowed to have state troopers gather and return these senators, then it is apparent that they are doing something illegal. The fact that they are not to be impeded in their efforts to arrive to the legislature building means that by fleeing their duties, they are guilty of malfeasance.

If they are not showing up for work, yet are still receiving the money, then they are stealing. It does not get simpler than that.

I would disagree, Aylee. Part of their JOB is to protect the voices of those whom they serve amongst their constituency who believe as they do -- and if protecting and giving voice to that constituency requires drastic measure such as leaving the state to assure that that voice is heard, then it would be malfeasance for them to NOT use whatever peaceful methods are possible to prevent that kind of suppression of their constituency.

Democratic government is NOT about "majority rules", so the argument that "most" of the people want XYZ simply does not fly. These people are charged with assuring that the voice of the people is heard and that justice is served in legislating this country to protect the rights of ALL of our members -- so these people were DOING their job.

"You reckon a vocational teaching qualification is good for getting into another line of work, then? "

I agree with this thought, that they are basically unqualified to get better-paying jobs.

"It is certainly not for the extravagant salaries"

Sure it is.
You might compare the average teachers salary (in Wis, or generally) to the average earnings of other citizens with four year degrees.

The starting salary for teachers in Wisconsin is a little over $25K.

After 10 years the greedy bastards are pulling in over $30,000.

Wisconsin Teacher Salary

And if we want to start comparisons:

What is the annual wage for an assistant manager of a McDonald's Restaurant?

It varies extremely based on location, experience, etc. I would say the average scale for an Assistant Store Manager runs between $27,000-$34,000 (I am an Assistant Store Manager myself and make around $32,000).

Honestly once you get into this point in McDonalds training the salary only gets better and better, with General Store Managers making anywhere from $32,000-$48,000 (once again these figures vary based on many factors including whether its a corporate or franchise McDonalds).

Please provide evidence to back up this claim, as, in the past 50 years among activists, that has not been my experience, nor can I find any sound evidence elsewhere to back such a claim.

Progressives -are- more inclined to political activism, but getting up and talking and protesting either in small groups or en masse does not constitute "violence". While there are some fringe organizations that do promote violence in the interests of certain things (extremist environmentalists, for example), those groups do not represent "liberals" any more than skinheads represent "conservatives".

That isn't actually what I was thinking, but I know you're not really capable of understanding things other posters say, so I'll try not to let it bother me.

truckinslave -> RE: SCOTT WALKER for President (2/19/2011 5:39:44 AM)

"Especially since there is a good chance the teacher is more intelligent than the executive."

You and I know different teachers, different executives, or both.
Or you're being dliberately stupid.

truckinslave -> RE: SCOTT WALKER for President (2/19/2011 5:43:59 AM)

"It will be an interesting election season."

Yes it will.
What, some 30% of public employees are unionized? 7% of private sector workers? The #1 issue is the cost of government, deficits, etc? 0bama0 is out there beating the union drum?

Yes, it will be interesting, if by "interesting" you mean a bloodletting that makes 2010 look tame.

truckinslave -> RE: SCOTT WALKER for President (2/19/2011 5:49:46 AM)

"There is no cause... to hold referendums on pay increases above cola......."

Sure there is, and I think it's the best legislative idea I've heard in a loooong time.
It stops running for office from becoming a bidding war for the votes of unionized public employees.

truckinslave -> RE: SCOTT WALKER for President (2/19/2011 5:53:50 AM)

"Breaking the bargaining agreement will probably land in court cause I don't think the legislature can do it.."

How sad to see that your knowledge of economics is not exceeded by your knowledge of law.

truckinslave -> RE: SCOTT WALKER for President (2/19/2011 5:56:45 AM)

I think that's why we're seeing allout war, 0bama0 sending in the dogs, etc.
This is the precedent, and it's going to be a long hot summer leading up to the 2012 budget fight. There is the possibility for serious unrest. Not a probability, but certainly a possibility.

truckinslave -> RE: SCOTT WALKER for President (2/19/2011 6:02:21 AM)

Herman Cain. Alan West. J.C. Watts.

There are any number of good possibilities for future black Presidents.
And, they're all natural born citizens, not that it seems to matter  [:D]

Oh, does that mean that Sanity's going to be complaining about this demonstration as well?

Im predicting claims of goons and mobs  attacking peaceful and calm tea party tax payers.
Im expecting claims of insurgant terrorists playing peaceful teabaggers to make the  righteous tax payers  look bad.
Im expecting many badly written signs
Im expecting not one peaceful tax paying righty to accept any blame  for anything ever.
Im expecting the right to be pissed because they are JUST the party of NO , but dem eeeebil dems are now the party of FUCK NO in  WI.
Righties are of course secretly blaming each other for not thinking of it 2 years ago. I actually think its so damn hysterically astounding  that elected officials feel that is the only way to deal with the opposite party is to get outta town

It will be nauseating.
But then so much of it is
Have a happy day
