I used it as it was intended to be utilized... a means to an end. I had to fight to get the right to go to school for two years to become self-sufficient in order to get off AFDC while the local bureaucrats kept trying to cut into my benefits.

Now, since you are having eye problems.

I never said there were any evil social programs... or any truly good businesses. I do believe our social programs could be much better ran... and our businesses could do more to improve goodwill. I also believe they all started out with the best of intentions... social programs, that is... and lost their way amid the dollar signs.

Now, if these programs were all goodness and sunlight as you suggest, why all the loopholes just to get on, then off a program, that was intended originally as a temporary support system and NOT a way of life as it has become for so many?

I never said that programs shouldn't be adjusted. All I am pointing out is that they do HELP people. Like you obviously. You didn't answer if it was better it was there for you rather than no program at all.

and I can read just fine. the attempt to try and adjust your original statement isn't working

What you arent getting is that because I had to fight for what was my right to do... go to school and not have one federal program penalize my benefits because of recieving help from another federal program... it was MY efforts that paved the way for many more women to go back to school.... something that should have been a no brainer for AFDC.

Now, that was my original meaning...

surely trying to help people here on earth takes precedence over space exploration


I think that mammograms and biopsies for breast cancer dectection and reduction of death caused by such and ultrasounds to check on unborn babies ARE things that help people here on Earth.

And those are just three of the space program spin-offs in the medical field.

DYB does not seem to believe that there are any bad social programs. He refered to them as "evil." I defined the word and gave some examples.

Many of the social programs are like Communism. It looks great on paper. Put into practice it does not work out so well.

What gets me irritated is that they continue to spend money on programs that do not work and cut money in the space program. Stupid idiots.

AFDC. Never have so many given up so much to stay in poverty for generations. The goal is noble and right, to be sure, but the execution is the path to hell.
