I love cats!  I just don't like it when they develop habits and you have to be firm for them to get the point.

What flies for you, doesn't for me.

Yeah, I know what you mean. It's so damn annoying when other living things don't appear to realize that their purpose in life is to play their proper role in one's Emperor fantasy.

If I were you, I'd make a point of avoiding cats and women. [:D]

Thank you Mr. Dueling Banjos!

I prefer to call it, "ends justify the means."  It's a Machiavellian fantasy if anything!

I have the squirt bottle, it's bout 50-50 as to whether or not it will stop KB from what he's doing wrong at the time.  With the other 3, all I have to do is get the bottle in my hand and they run.  Sometimes, dealing w/KB is a battle of wills....and he wins about 50 percent of the time.  He will look right at me and knock things off the tables, he will yank the books off the bookshelf, jump on his brothers when he's feeling mean.  He'll get soaked before he stops what he's doing.

As for his head butts.....he does it when he wants me up NOW!  And he does it hard, too......little bastage......and he walks across the pillow,
stepping on my hair right at the roots, which also hurts, and can bring you right up out of a deep sleep!  If that's his way of showing me love, I wish he'd love me a little less!

Mine respond to it as well when I take the squirt bottle in my hand they know that they dont like this little birdy shaped thing which gets them wet, except Urmel...he truly doesnt mind water since I bathed him regular as a very tiny kitten to give him temporary relief from fleas until he reached the age where I felt comfortable to use the typical chemicals and just stares at me a la "lemme know once you are finished" [8|]

I don't mind head butts, seems to me that birmans do that way more often then my other cats as they also do it often against bed ends and windows like a sulking toddler, but what I do mind are nose butts...[&:]

canned air. I hadnt thought of that.. I'll have to try that.

The countertop treks are done when I am not home, so no go there.. but the hair thing, curtains, and clawing my comfy chair...  *sigh*

Greedy, it's a miracle worker.  I actually keep a can of air next to the bed on the night stand (heh).  One press of the button has him flying out of the room, then tiptoeing back in and in perfect behavior.  It took 2-3 nights of this and problem solved.  This way he disassociates ME with the discipline and just knows when he does XYZ this awful blast out of nowhere occurs.  I don't even have to aim it at him now.  I do it immediately when the behavior begins, and don't even say No or anything. It just instantly stops.

(PS: I recommend taking the little plastic straw-like nossel  off. Viktor chewed it off when I wasn't looking).

I wouldn't dare lay a hand on him.  That would make him skittish of me, plus animals are not people - they don't have the logic humans do, and have NO idea why their loved human is suddenly striking them.  A little research into behaviors and training goes a long way.  Striking an animal is a lazy and ignorant approach, in my humble opinion.

I agree, 1000%!!

It's fuzzy, but here are those pretty blue peepers on my baby girl.  (Took me an hour to get this....she kept looking down right before the pic took!  And you can tell she's getting pissed.....)

Does anyone know the best way to cook the giblets you get from buying whole chickens..I want to cook them and feed them to my cat..I know I can cook the backs and necks and separate the meat from bones when it is done but can I cook all the giblets (heart, liver, gizzard) and feed to her?  Thanks!

wisubbilly -> RE: Let's Talk About Cats. (3/19/2011 5:50:21 PM)

Otter, you might try just slow cooking them with the rest of the chicken, so they are tender.  Gizards are really tough, but the livers are pretty tender.   I wish mine would eat real meat...they seem to prefer that nasty slimy canned stuff.....

SweetDommes -> RE: Let's Talk About Cats. (3/19/2011 8:52:05 PM)

Our cats used to eat real meat ... then one of them caught on that we sneak medication into the meat ... and they won't eat it anymore lol

I found this when I was looking for the dog videos, thought it was really cute :)

As far as the giblets, I just boil them, chop them up, and both my cat and my dog think they died and went to heaven, lol.

hausboy -> RE: Let's Talk About Cats. (3/19/2011 9:16:45 PM)

I love this thread....cuz I LOVE my cats!  I have two Maine-Coon mix rescues...Maximus (slimmed down to a solid 15 lbs) and Louie (down to 17 lbs.)  which is really half of what their weight would be if they were full-blooded Maine Coons.  Bestest cats I've ever had....Max gives me huge hugs and kisses, throws his big meaty catcher's mitt paws around my neck each morning and man-handles me.  Louie simply trots on up and taps me on the shoulder to remind that I have an obligation to cater to his schedule.

They got me through my divorce.....listen to my problems... greet me at the door the second I come home...give me unconditional love...when I was sick, Max would not leave my side except to quickly eat and use the box.  Anytime he left me, Louie stood guard in his place til he got back. (Max is the alpha cat).

soul2share -> RE: Let's Talk About Cats. (3/19/2011 9:28:42 PM)

My kittehs are the same way Haus......whenever they know I'm worried about something, or not feeling good, they are right there.  Squeaks gives me hugs and smudges when I pick her up.....she'd be perfectly happy to be carried everywhere...like the Princess she is!

KB is the one who stays close when I'm sick.....curls up next to me.  And I'm so used to kitteh bodies in bed with me that it's hard to sleep when I can't feel at least one of them snuggled up next to me.

I have never experienced a truly "aloof" cat.....they just act that way because they have a reputation to uphold!  Undeserved...prolly started by the goggies!  [:)]  And when it comes to people that don't like cats, they are the FIRST ones kittehs go to.....my ex's grandma didn't like cats, but everytime she'd come to the house, Alex would head right for her.  She started just sitting next to her, and eventually ended up in her lap.  While Gma wouldn't run out and get a cat, she really did like Alex....she'd be talking and not even realize she was petting her......sneaky, cheeky little kitteh!

Phoenixpower -> RE: Let's Talk About Cats. (3/19/2011 9:33:58 PM)

When summer was mated last year the breeder from the stud boy showed me vitamins which she adds to the food...so silly me also bought them for her....listening to that advice...paaah, summer shows me that she doesnt like her food anymore once I mix that with it....my others dont mind, but she does...oh she is so moaning at present, its a pain...and silly me still lubs her anyway..

recently someone told me you can also get rid of fleas (at cats) when you put some garlic in their food...shame I didnt know that last year...I certainly would have tried that one...

hausboy -> RE: Let's Talk About Cats. (3/19/2011 9:35:35 PM)

I have a friend who rarely sees her own cat!  Never understood that.... I love the company they offer.  I would be so upset if my boys didn't want to hang out with me
