Surely Powell lost most of the respect he had earned in his prior career the second he agreed to be the chimp's "spook by the door", though?
That was a pretty revolting moment though, true enough. You'd expect better from the only cabinet member to suggest shooting those jets down when they started going off course...
For me anyway,he redeemed that respect when he crossed party lines and endorsed the man who,in his opinion,was better suited for the Oval Office.

Too little too late, Mike.

So is this confirmation that you have only a very short-term memory?

Is that worse than being intensely hypocritical?

You're one or the other.

Only if a Republican is president at the time though, apparently.  [;)]

Are you fucking kidding me?

This after you supported the Bush Doctrine defining our supposed right to wage preemptive war.

I'm never sure what most of those smiley things mean.

This wasn't the first time Colin Powell sold his soul, he was a part of the My Lai  "whitewash" as it was referred to by the Judge Advocate Generals office.  People have defended his actions because he was "young" he was a fucking Major in the US Army, the earliest you can make Major (pay grade O-4) is TEN years in service.

If he was 22 when he was commissioned from college that would have made him minimum 32 years old, when he participated in the "whitewash".  Colin Powell hopefully will rot in some foul "psycho-spiritual" place for all eternity, because of his actions.

Judgmentally,
Some Knucklehead in NJ

mnottertail -> RE: Impeachment? (3/24/2011 1:54:37 PM)

He was 31, not directly involved in Mai Lai, but as an investigator after the fact, turned in a typical army investigative report which is by definition 'whitewash'.

I dunno if I find that so uniquely reprehensible.  But that is just me.

Moonhead -> RE: Impeachment? (3/24/2011 1:58:21 PM)

I'm with ron on that one, pogo: the whole point of army investigations is to exonerate the wrong doers under investigation unless there's a political reason to tell the truth, after all. That's how these things work, sadly.

mnottertail -> RE: Impeachment? (3/24/2011 2:06:06 PM)

The actual aftermath of it, was the army didnt want him busted anywhoo in the first place, but he was fuckin caught....... they did alot of shadow pictures with their hands for the gullible viewing public (who I assume now watch Faux Nuze)  and he did house arrest for a couple years and they sort of let him off the base leash after that, he was free to move about the cabin, in any cartesian coordinate direction his little heart desired.

It's called "circling the wagons" for the "good of the service".

Moonhead -> RE: Impeachment? (3/24/2011 2:26:32 PM)

I think the civilian term for that is "covering your arses"...

mnottertail -> RE: Impeachment? (3/24/2011 2:28:24 PM)

In the government we call it bad intel on WMD. Don't know what you blokes do, sell off a bleedin' forest, or summitch.

Whatever one calls it..it does seem to be a prevalent and pervasive instinct within institutions.The knee jerk reaction to protect those within the structure from those forces that might threaten from without.
The Blue Wall of any Police force is as good an example as any.

Moonhead -> RE: Impeachment? (3/24/2011 2:35:54 PM)

Oh, don't even get me started on the rozzers doing that: we've had some pretty rotten cases of that one over the last few years here...

slvemike4u -> RE: Impeachment? (3/24/2011 3:28:12 PM)

The level of resistance to outside pressures is often directly proportionate to the perceived insulation from the greater community at large.
Just sayin....

Sanity -> RE: Impeachment? (3/24/2011 3:45:57 PM)

Do you know what it is now? This is the second time Ive tried to explain it to you.

Ive pointed out a couple of times on this very thread how leftists to this day like to rag on Reagan for supporting the Mujahadeen

Make that three times now, you guys are awfully slow on the uptake, arent ya
