The point is they sat in the power seat with a majority in both houses, as well as the white house all in the Democrat pocket.

They didn't even try to pass a budget, they spent their time on other things.
It's the one constitutional job the legislature is charged with and they didn't do it.
No budget, no need to defend spending during the mid terms.

FACT is the last congress didn't complete their job, they could have forced the issues and compromised then, while they still held the majority in the House. They CHOSE not to do it, they chose to wait for the deficit commission report that convieniently didn't get published until after the elections. (sure it's a coincidence).

I am so tired of hearing this nonsense.

No, they could not have forced the issue because they had a bare majority and there are divisions within the Democratic Party that did not exist in the Republican Party at the time.

The Republicans marched in lockstep.

But welcome to teabagger world.

And you think Republicans are going to be able to accomplish anything with the deep divisions within their own party?

Yeah, many forget the Blue Dogs.

defiantbadgirl -> RE: Will Republicans cause yet again another government shutdown? (4/7/2011 8:41:06 PM)

I wouldn't be surprised if the republicans somehow set the democratic party up with the blue dogs just to screw everything up.

snappykappy -> RE: Will Republicans cause yet again another government shutdown? (4/7/2011 8:45:25 PM)

it is everyone in congress who is at fault not the tea party or the republicats or the democats it is all the people who were so called elected but do not serve the people who they are supposed to

so put it all on the 535 up there who by the way will still get paid if there is a stoppage think about it

defiantbadgirl -> RE: Will Republicans cause yet again another government shutdown? (4/7/2011 8:52:20 PM)

Ok it's the fault of both Republicans and Democrats. That's still no excuse to make cuts that kill people.

Marini -> RE: Will Republicans cause yet again another government shutdown? (4/7/2011 9:30:18 PM)

In about 23 hours we will have the answer to this question.
According to the latest breaking news, there is no agreement at this time.

Yes and we let all the 'independent' voters off the hook for doing any wrong, right?

If you voted, your responsible for what happens. Obvious if you voted for Mr. Bush in 2000 or 2004, you have to take ownership of all his mistakes. If it was Mr. Obama in 2008, you have to do the same. If you voted for neither one, well....sadly (and truthfully), your vote is irrelevant. You should have voted for a real candidate.

Which is why one should always, heavily consider who they vote for in elections. How many take that kind of responsibility seriously?

Well, here we are.It is Friday,April 8 after midnight and no compromise has been reached.Does this mean that the Federal Government is now "officially" shut down?

I think they get till 11:59 PM.. not 12 AM, so they have almost a whole day to get it together and get 'er done.

I will be surprised, however, if they actually get anything done. It is Congress of which we are speaking after all.

Charles6682 -> RE: Will Republicans cause yet again another government shutdown? (4/7/2011 9:58:21 PM)

Even when Democrats did hold a super majority 2 years ago,Obama was the lone Democrat willing to stick his hand across the aisle and work with Republicans. That has never been the Republicans plan.It was to constantly be the party of NO at every turn.Obama could cure cancer and Repukelicans just sit their with their arms crossed and cry like a bunch of crybabies.Especially House Speaker John Boner. He certainly knows alot about crying!

defiantbadgirl -> RE: Will Republicans cause yet again another government shutdown? (4/7/2011 9:58:31 PM)

I never voted for Bush. I voted for Obama and I'm furious with him for sending troops to Lybia and agreeing to extend the Bush tax cuts for the wealthy. I also think he should've put stipulations on the bailout (auto industry-all money must be used for US jobs, manufacturing jobs must be brought back to the US, banks - money can't be used for CEO bonuses, etc.) Bernie Sanders spent hours speaking against extending tax cuts for the wealthy and he's listed as an independent. Despite my frustration with Obama, at least democrats aren't suggesting cuts that kill people and kick the elderly out of nursing homes. So that makes democrats a hell of a lot better than republicans.

Charles6682 -> RE: Will Republicans cause yet again another government shutdown? (4/7/2011 10:02:50 PM)

Republicans were against tax breaks for keeping jobs in America and ending tax loopholes for sending jobs overseas. How does that help America's uneployment rate?It dosen't.Republicans really proved where their motives lie. They want to keep tax breaks for jobs to be sent overseas, instead of tax breaks for those who keep jobs here in America.

defiantbadgirl -> RE: Will Republicans cause yet again another government shutdown? (4/7/2011 10:09:13 PM)

I agree. The democrats have tried to do a lot of good things and republicans have blocked them. I'm mainly frustrated with Obama for the things I listed above and for not fighting harder for single-payer health care when the democrats had control of both the house and senate.

kdsub -> RE: Will Republicans cause yet again another government shutdown? (4/8/2011 9:10:06 AM)

Just saying…is it not refreshing when elected officials are ignoring special interests to stand by and hold up to their pre-election promises?

As much as many of us would like to ignore it, me included, a good majority of the people in the states they represent sent them to office with a mandate to reduce taxes.

They are doing what their electorates want them to do.

It is the fault of the previous congress, BOTH parties that they could not compromise on legislation forcing the opposition to use funding to hamper or end those programs.

PS... What I am saying is they may be wrong but don't deserve to be demonized.

Butch

tazzygirl -> RE: Will Republicans cause yet again another government shutdown? (4/8/2011 9:24:57 AM)

Dont you mean with mandates to reduce taxes, not cut medicare, not touch the rich and to make jobs?

Do they sell a magic wand with that?

kdsub -> RE: Will Republicans cause yet again another government shutdown? (4/8/2011 9:35:42 AM)

tazzy you seem to believe I agree with their policies...I don't...but they are doing what the PEOPLE of those states want them to do. Rather than directing anger at their representatives anger should be directed at the people.... BUT.. when that many people have an opposing view maybe it would be better to reexamine your views and see if there is any room for compromise…you know you could be wrong.

Yes, lets play political roulette. A group of people tell you what they want, you know you couldnt deliver no matter what magic carpet mushroom you smoke, and yet you make those promises.

I dont know about you, but I vote to send someone to do their job, which is running this country as fiscally sound and as fairly distributed as possible.

Many if our elected officials stopped crossing their fingers behind their backs and told people the truth....

naaaa... too much to ask for.

mnottertail -> RE: Will Republicans cause yet again another government shutdown? (4/8/2011 9:55:00 AM)

I don't remember any mandate to reduce taxes, the mandate I remember was getting our debt under control and some fiscal responsibility.

slvemike4u -> RE: Will Republicans cause yet again another government shutdown? (4/8/2011 9:57:47 AM)

Which, contrary to popular belief ,just might mean raising taxes. If the deficit is the true target, than it is nigh on impossible to deny that this would be one way in which to bridge the divide.

kdsub -> RE: Will Republicans cause yet again another government shutdown? (4/8/2011 9:57:50 AM)

Whether they can deliver is still up in the air don't you think?

Butch
