The "threat" of a government shutdown is really over the tyrants wanting to raise the debt limit. If they raise America's debt limit AGAIN, it'll put America at another historic level, with no end in sight to how far America will sink. However, this is but one key step in the larger picture of forcing the United States to NEED a North American Union and a single North American unit of currency to be called The Amero. Google those.

Who are the "tyrants"?

Ask any Dem, there is no problem with the debt, printing trillions of dollars out of nothing, and so on.

Everythings fine...

DOLLAR TURNS TOXIC...
Fever for Gold, Silver Grips Investors...

Gold soars to new record...

Silver reaches 30-year high...

Joe, thats history, and totally beside the point. While its true and I agree with you that Bush was a very Liberal spender, Obama can only "blame it on Bush" if its something Bush actually did, dont you think?

And this current budget, which is the topic of discussion, has absolutely nothing to do with Bush.

defiantbadgirl -> RE: Will Republicans cause yet again another government shutdown? (4/8/2011 7:58:03 PM)

Shutdown has been averted by stop gap resolution.

And just what do you think will happen to the dollar if we don't raise the debt ceiling, default on our debt, and suddenly the economic bedrock principle that "U.S. T-bills are a risk-free investment" is no more?  Without confidence in U.S. debt being risk-free, the status of the dollar as the de facto world reserve currency would end in a heartbeat as investors worldwide set new speed records fleeing for safer currencies.

Also, by historical standards, our debt is not that high, though our deficit is. Obviously our nominal debt has never gone down except briefly under Clinton, but nominal debt isn't the best measure - is $10,000 in debt the same to an unemployed college dropout as it is to Bill Gates? Measured by our ability to pay the debt, we were in much, much worse shape after World War II then we are today. On the other hand, after World War II we had the political will to raise taxes on the rich, which somehow didn't grind the economy to a halt. If we found the political will to switch to single-payer healthcare and restore taxes to historical norms, we would easily be outgrowing our debt again.

FR to the thread title. No. The Democrats pussied out.

Useless bastards

TheHeretic -> RE: Will Republicans cause yet again another government shutdown? (4/8/2011 9:02:40 PM)

Did you watch through to Harry Reid on the Senate Floor, Lucy? He not only looked beaten, he looked scared.

So the Democrats gave some on the money, while holding the line on enviormental issues and Planned Parenthood.....I'm not so sure that can be characterized as having "pussied out".
Seems to me they did their jobs, and in the doing forced some cultural warriors to realize they must do their jobs too.
Seems like a deal where neither side can claim complete victory nor claim to have defeated the other.
Compromise is often the best deal that can be had.

TheHeretic -> RE: Will Republicans cause yet again another government shutdown? (4/8/2011 9:34:20 PM)

Mike, didn't Reid agree to separate Senate votes on the riders? Votes that will certainly be looked at, as 23 of his 51 seats will be up for re-election.

They may very well have given away Obamacare tonight.

slvemike4u -> RE: Will Republicans cause yet again another government shutdown? (4/8/2011 9:44:54 PM)

Are you implying the Democrats need fear being seen to vote down these riders.....I don't see it like that. Not at all...if anything Democrats should fear reactions akin to Lucy's.

TheHeretic -> RE: Democrats tuck their tails and shiver in the corner (4/8/2011 9:55:57 PM)

Implying they need to fear, Mike? They are already doing it.

FatDomDaddy -> RE: Democrats tuck their tails and shiver in the corner (4/8/2011 10:07:26 PM)

you are as old as I am. There isn't any 6 million senior going hungry or eating dog food. That is just a number without statistics to back it up! Show me the data! Where is the proof?!

The Face of Senior Hunger in America
In the United States, MOWAA-sponsored research has found that:

■Nearly six million seniors faced the threat of hunger in 2007.
11.4 percent of all seniors experienced some form of food insecurity. Of these, about 2.5 million were at risk of hunger and about 750,000 suffered from hunger due to financial constraints.
■Is hunger confined primarily to those who are poor?
No. The poor are more likely to be at-risk, but half of all at-risk seniors have incomes above the federal poverty line. And one in seven food insecure households have an annual income above twice the poverty line.
■Is hunger primarily a problem for minorities?
No. Over two-thirds of all hungry seniors are white.

The Future of Senior Hunger
Our research projected that:

■In 2025, an estimated 9.5 million senior Americans will experience some form of food insecurity, about 75 percent higher than the number in 2005.
■In 2025, an estimated 3.9 million senior Americans will be at-risk of hunger.
■In 2025, an estimated 1 million senior Americans will suffer from hunger.

Here is your "statistics"

slvemike4u -> RE: Democrats tuck their tails and shiver in the corner (4/8/2011 10:13:07 PM)

Different perceptions Rich...What you refer to as Obamacare is here to stay.Come Nov.of '12 republican brinkmanship will bear the fruit it is due.
Of course that's just my opinion...I'm sure yours is diametrically opposed ....but that's what make horse races  isn't it?

Yes, I'm sure protecting access to cancer screenings and maintaining breathable air will be very unpopular in states that sent Democrats to the Senate in the first place.
