The royal wedding is nearly upon us. Over here in England it is in every paper every day and in nearly all of the news broadcasts. But I am surprised by the interest in America. I logged in to youtube today to be met with a huge advert "watch the royal wedding on youtube".
Why are you guys and girls so interested? Are they the ultimate a list celebs? Is it the history? Is part of the interest because of Diana? Are Americans as fixated by a long dead Princess as some over here are? Is that too many questions?
I expect the kinky community to be fairly cynical(as I am) about the whole thing but why is America so interested?

I couldn't tell you. This American doesn't give much of a crap about celebrities and their personal lives/ drama, no matter where they live.

if you're aiming for the bride you might need a really good 'scope - she's lost a LOT of weight lately.

Probably from running away from her father-in-law-to-be's wandering mitts

In my opinion (and I can't offer more, since I'm not a yank) Americans have always had a certain fascination with British royalty, which is kind of funny when you think of their history. I think it's existed prior to Diana, but her popularity certainly wasn't lost on Americans. It's a bit of the fairy tale thing. A prince finds his princess (although she's not one in the official sense), falls in love and now they are getting married. Isn't that the stuff of fairy tales and don't we all want to believe in that regardless of how jaded and cynical we may be? :)

I don't think it has anything to do with the 'dead princess' Diana thing. Okay, maybe it does somewhat but there was just as much hoopla over here back when Charles and Diana wed and at that point Diana was a nobody. My girlfriend wants to get up early to see the dress but that's about it. An ex girlfriend of mine had a minor Diana and Charles fetish and collected a few royal knick knacks. The royal wedding (and the royals themselves, in general) don't hold any interest for me. I have to confess though that the whole concept of a country in 2011 still clinging to this whole monarchy thing - particulary when the royal family has no hand in governance - is somewhat peculiar and interesting.

This.  And maybe we're especially fascinated by royalty because it's something we don't have over here.  We even try, in a way, to elevate our celebrities to royal status to fill that gap.

Yeah, no kidding on Diana's dress.  Looked like they pulled down every curtain in the palace and stitched them all together.

I dont know why you think this wedding is big interest in America.  Most of us are sick of hearing about it and wish they would just elope.

I remember Dianas wedding, I watched while working in a geriatric ward , done up like a street party circa 1945, we were all  so disapointed at the dress, I much preferred Andrews n Fergies.
Im happy for WillIam and Kate, but I wont be watching. Makes me feel homesick and altho I love the pomp, I have more pressing things to think about.
