Many people still do not understand how much different things are in an observant Islamic society

“My clothes were torn to pieces,” Ms. Logan said.

She declined to go into more detail about the assault but said: “What really struck me was how merciless they were. They really enjoyed my pain and suffering. It incited them to more violence.”

Before the assault, Ms. Logan said, she did not know about the levels of harassment and abuse that women in Egypt and other countries regularly experienced. “I would have paid more attention to it if I had had any sense of it,” she said. “When women are harassed and subjected to this in society, they’re denied an equal place in that society. Public spaces don’t belong to them. Men control it. It reaffirms the oppressive role of men in the society.”

The common factor is not a particular race, religion or creed on the part of either the attackers or the victim but human nature.

Because experience on these boards has taught me that people's ideologies can make them see the exact opposite in one's words.

I once made a joke about Al Franken (the left wing version of Rush Limbaugh as far as I'm concerned) and some ditsy broad (not posting anymore, thankfully) accused me of making racial slurs against President (then elect) Obama. When I called her on it, wanting to know exactly how she got from A to B, she accused me of being a stalker and threatened to report me to the Mods!

Find an example of 200 - 300 men brutally raping a woman in a public place and then we will have apples to apples.

Ms. Logan herself relates that women are treated differently in that society, which is the entire point. I disagree with popeyes "theyre animals' comment, but their society is totally unlike ours. And while Ms. Logan was unaware of that prior to her horrific experience she is testifying to that fact now, in the article quoted above.

why ? when there are single men white men in jail for raping women by stabbing them with bottles afterwards??? , if a group that size were so viciously raping her , she would have been dead.
In no way am I condoning what happened to her, in any way shape or form, and Im very very happy she is alive and relatively unhurt. To separate the crimes you are playing with a bag of bees.
200 rampaging soccer fans or a drunk asshole group at a bar, women die after less a tenth of that number "attacking" ...she was luckier than those, its violence and men, not religion.

Neither CBS nor the New York Times are known for their anti Islamic bias, and Ms. Logan wasnt the only person involved. Further, these are all veteran reporters...

In my opinion you and your friends are in denial because it runs counter to your gross misconceptions about Islam, misconceptions including but not limited to how badly women are treated in many Islamic societies.

so I suppose western society is wonderful when 1 woman is raped every 60 seconds in the US?
yeah thats some respect for women right there
to point out that Islam is bad or worse denigrates all the women harmed by rape anywhere and everywhere in every fashion

Lucy it is his gross misconceptions about 1.5 billion people that get me.

I also take issue with her comment that she was unaware about Muslim men before she went to Egypt. This is a women who spent many years (At least nine) reporting from places like Iraq and Afghanistan.

That it was acceptable to do that by that many men is the issue, its that women are culturally held in such low regard. It was done to her as punishment, you seem to be missing that.
