Leftists focus on race a hell of a lot more than Conservatives do, leftists are obsessed with race

Why do you think that is?

Oh on that I agree. The same Congress who declared Hawaii the birth place of Obama years ago... and they are still yammering on and on and on....

Tazzy,

I was aware that Congress held hearings on John McCain's citizenship, but not aware that they did the same for Obama.

Do you have a link or cite for that?

Thanks

Firm

Myself, I don't care for Congressional hearings on this issue. I think they would be stepping on the Judiciary's responsibility.

AND EVERY COURT HEARING has dismissed every challenge, and since under our Great American System, it is the COURTS which have oversight over the legislature and executive, then their decision of it being a non-issue is the one to go with.

They did not hold hearings, but on the anniversary of Hawaii gaining statehold, in a resolution passed by congress, it stated that Hawaii was the birthplace of President Obama.

You're aware of something that never happened?

Just to cut off the insipid response please provide the date of the hearings and which comittee held them. A single question in a single unrelated hearing isn't going to make the grade.

Well, these are the words of a Judge...

Reviewing pertinent statutes including one passed in 1937 on Canal Zone citizenship, Alsup found that "persons in Senator McCain's circumstances are citizens by virtue of their birth, thereby retroactively rendering Senator McCain a natural born citizen, if he was not one already. This order finds it highly probable, for the purposes of this motion for provisional relief, that Senator McCain is a natural born citizen. Plaintiff has not demonstrated the likelihood of success on the merits necessary to warrant the drastic remedy he seeks."

As far as the congressional hearing... it was actually a Senate hearing...

WASHINGTON — The Senate on Wednesday delivered its judgment on a constitutional question involving one of its own and formally declared that Senator John McCain is eligible to be president — at least from a citizenship perspective.

Weighing in on an arcane question that has arisen because of Mr. McCain’s birth in the Panama Canal Zone, the Senate without opposition approved a nonbinding resolution recognizing that Mr. McCain is a natural-born citizen.

I never challenged McCain status so most of the above is a non sequitur.

As to the rest a Senate resolution is not hearings. There were no hearings on the issue. To prove me wrong you still have to provide the dates of the hearings and which comittee(s) they were in front of.

"Blew away birthers" is code for "finally released his birth certificate" or "birthers won"

Now that thats finally settled what are we going to do about the racers. Those who squawk and scream that anyone who disagrees with the leftist agenda has to be a racist?

Birther's won, eh?  I think birthers gave him the opportunity to show the whole US of A that their absolutely out of their mind with contempt for a man.  Birther's won nothing, Sanity.  Not even did they win the ability to distract him on the mission that was going on with OBL, during the same time they were ranting he was not an American. [8|]  It made everyone realize that birther rants and cries didn't get in his way at all.  The birthers just got in the way of themselves.  They certainly didn't stop Obama from completing a bigger mission than clearing up a falsehood only the birthers thought up.

Sanity -> RE: Colin Powell: Obama blew away the birthers (5/8/2011 8:30:37 AM)

It is a Constitutional requirement that the president be a citizen Louve, so why did the most transparent administration ever resist disclosing it.

I am guessing that they wanted the distraction. They wanted the divisiveness... to be divisive.

They liked being able to play the race card over, and over, and over again...

ratings ratings ratings. He didn't want Trump's bloviating on the issue to distract from his OBL victory. There are no coincidences.

Sanity -> RE: Colin Powell: Obama blew away the birthers (5/8/2011 8:42:45 AM)

Thats a non sequitur Louve, especially since they just released the birth certificate. With that release they acknowledged that the birthers had a legitimate grievance, so would you care to try again?

First, I never said, or even implied, that you challenged his status.

Second, learn the difference betwee providing information and trying to "prove" you "wrong".

Third, I said a Congressional Inquiry... not hearing. I had forgotten about the Judge's decision on this matter.

And, actually, the Senate Judicial Committee got the issue.

At a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing last week, panel Chairman Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.) asked Chertoff whether he had any question that McCain could be president.

"My assumption and my understanding is that if you are born of American parents, you are naturally a natural-born American citizen," Chertoff answered.

"That is mine, too," said Leahy.

So everyone appears to agree. Let's see if any legislation gets passed.

So, yes, its in a Senate Comittee... and its had a hearing.

Happy now?

STATEMENT OF SENATOR PATRICK LEAHY
CHAIRMAN, SENATE JUDICIARY COMMITTEE
OPENING STATEMENT
EXECUTIVE BUSINESS MEETING
APRIL 24, 2008

..........

Then we can turn our attention to a Senate Resolution intended to clarify and recognize that Senator McCain's birth in the Panama Canal Zone in 1936 while his father was serving in the United States Navy should not disqualify him constitutionally from running for President. I have said publicly that I believe no change in law is needed. In response to my question, Department of Homeland Security Secretary Chertoff, a former Federal judge, agreed with me that the circumstances of Senator McCain's birth should not disqualify him from being considered a "natural born Citizen" under the Constitution. He agreed with me that anyone born to American citizens is a "natural born Citizen" and satisfies the purposes of Article II of the Constitution.

Former Solicitor General Theodore Olson and Harvard Professor Laurence Tribe analyzed the issue and came to the same conclusion based on the Framers' intent, the purpose of the provision and historical precedent. When we reach the measure, I will make their letter and analysis part of our record. We should pass this bipartisan resolution to put to rest speculation that Senator McCain is not eligible to run for President because of the circumstances of his birth in 1936 in the Panama Canal Zone and that somehow those circumstances adversely affected his citizenship status.

Louve00 -> RE: Colin Powell: Obama blew away the birthers (5/8/2011 8:47:23 AM)

No, actually.  I am not going to try to convince you, because you won't admit to anything but insults and fly off the handle.  If you want to continue to believe the president of the nation you live in is a Kenyan, and that we let it happen that way, then keep on thinking that, Sanity.  (Doesn't that just make you clench your jaws and grind your teeth??) [8D]

Sanity -> RE: Colin Powell: Obama blew away the birthers (5/8/2011 8:51:59 AM)

Louve dear, you alone are the one who has been trying to be insulting.

Care to apologize now, for labeling me 'confused'?

Or to walk back your lie that I called Obama a Kenyan?

Or did you not realize that you were doing that...  [:D]

I might add, the only thing that makes my teeth grind is the strong flavorful coffee that I overindulge myself with. I am one of the happiest people on the planet, most all of the time. Including this moment, here and now.

Louve00 -> RE: Colin Powell: Obama blew away the birthers (5/8/2011 8:57:26 AM)

First of all, yes, if it was insulting to you that I called you confused, then I apologize for making you feel that way.  If you want others to not think you're confused than stop ranting over the birth certificate already.  When he first introduced his certificate of live birth, that was enough for me.  If it wasn't enough for you, then what country did you believe he was born in?
