Samboct,

What on earth is the matter with you? How can you write about Star Trek and not mention the episode, 'Spock's Brain'?

Maybe a line will jog your memory at its utter brilliance:

"They give us pain and they give us pleasure"

Really? I thought it was a bit on the square-shaped and squidgy side. But memory maybe failing me.

Hi Peon

Or how about McCoy grimacing and saying "I knew I shouldn't have connected his vocal chords." and Spock, for once, without a comeback....Even Leonard Nimoy wasn't too fond of that one- but it does have a certain camp appeal.....

Here's some useless trivia for all of you original Star Trek fans:

William Shatner's "face" was used for which famous horror movie icon?

Not Jason, was it - the guy in Friday 13th films? I always thought they looked similar.

No, not Jason.  This one was actually "scary" in some way.

Excellent. Poor old Spock. Actually, I always did like Nimoy the most.

And for the record, I thought Scotty's Scottish accent was pretty OK. I've certainly heard worse.

Just discovered: in the later episodes, the ship's computer was voiced by Roddenberry's wife . . . . Fascinating. And logical.

Majel Barrett (Gene Roddenberry's wife) played the voice of the computer in the orginal series, she play Nurse Chapel in the orginal series. On The Next Generation. She also play Troy's mother, Lwaxana Troi on the Next Generation. She also did many voice over and computer voice in the Star Trek spin offs like Voyager, Deep Space Nine, and more. She was a true trekkie! And so am I!!!

I have always adored Majel Barrett - not only was she in all the ST shows, but she supported her husband and his vision in very active ways. Finally, she was one hot momma. I mean, seriously. We should all recognize how gorgeous we are as we get older. I loved Luaxana(sp)'s relationship with Alexander. She was such a flibbertyjibbit, but when it came down to things, she really was a good, kind, loyal, and gnetle woman. She supported the dude who had ot go to Carousel (anyone get that reference?) because of his age. She saved her daughter and Riker from the Farengi, she LIVED. We should all take a lesson from her. *When I say "we all" I mean me.

Best,
sunshine

Pssst...in the book Q-in-Law, Q was making a study of love and made the mistake of using Lwaxana as one of his gunea pigs.

Gave her Q powers...and when his experiment was over and he was gloating...she got very creative at his expense.  Played racquetball (yep, he was a ball) and shot him through the fusion reactor or whatever it's called.  She was relentless and he was wailing to Picard to save him.  (Lwaxana had turned him into a tree and was planning to neuter him with a chain saw.)  I almost need a cig after reading that book.

This book was so vivid to me that for the longest time, I insisted that it was made into an episode.  When I bought all the seasons of TNG on DVD, alas, I was proved wrong.  :(

I'm particularly fond of the TNG episode "Tapestry" in which Picard gets to undo youthful mistakes--and is startled by the results.

She also played Number One to Captain Christopher Pike in the original "The Cage" pilot.

Why I love Star Trek - in a word, substance.

Gene's vision holds us accountable for our past and present but with a glimpse towards the futures unique possibilities. He doesn't make excuses, simply presents what *is* and leaves it to us to ponder it. I love the story's, the themes, the philosophies and the fun. (I could do without so much damn time travel though.)

Peace and long life, Little Miss Sunshine. :D

Oh and when it comes to Star Trek trivia.. I got me some mad skills. hehehe

Love that episode.

And... What are some of your favorite quotes?

One of mine is from TOS:

"Stone knives and Bearskins"

(and we're back to City on the Edge of Forever)

I get the Logan's Run, but I thought Sunny was referring to the episode when she fell in love with whats-his-name from M*A*S*H. ----Played Charles Winchester III. Had a 3-name name. Lord, I'm getting old.
