You are both correct!

Yes, David Ogden Stiers played the man Luaxanna fell in love with. I loved that episode - showing her understanding of the culture. Her ability to respect it despite her deep pain from accepting their way of living and dying.

When I watched it, I realized it was a theme from Logan's Run when the people heard, "Welcome to Carousel" ... My goodness, ladies, we are absolute nerds. *I'm totally ok with that - a friend of mine used to call me a "sleeper nerd". You wouldn't know I was a nerd to look at me, but there it is. I'd say the same about the two of you fine chicas.

I get the Logan's Run, but I thought Sunny was referring to the episode when she fell in love with whats-his-name from M*A*S*H. ----Played Charles Winchester III. Had a 3-name name. Lord, I'm getting old.

David Ogden, who played Charles Emerson Winchester III, played Dr. Timicin in the Next Generation Episode "Half a Life". Dr Timicin modify's the Enterprise's photon torpedoes to revive their Sun. The experiment fails, and Dr Timicin seeks to commit suicide for his failure per tradition. Lwaxana Troi is appalled at the idea and tries to talk Dr. Timicin out of it.

He isn't going to commit suicide for his failure; it is his time to die. They die at a particular time. It is a great celebration of his successful life. (Thus the "Welcome to Carousel" reference). (Of course I may need to go back and watch it to gather fodder for this debate- that would be why I'm watching it. Fodder collection. *nod nod nod*) And as an aside... the gal who plays his daughter ends up being Lt. Ro Larin later on... I think that was her name...

I hear that those Star Trek toys and action figures from the 1970s might be valuable today. I had an Enterprise model and a Klingon ship model, but I don't remember whatever happened to them. I wish I had gotten the toy phaser. That's going for $500 apparently.

speaking of Star Trek toys, my son had a very cool Star Trek transporter toy, worked with light, sound and mirror effects and the Star Trek figure in the transporter would "vanish". It was very cool.

One of my favorite episodes of the original version had Jill Ireland as a guest, and there was an Idyllic community which everyone was happy after they were exposed to spores for a plant or something and Spock got emotional. One of my favorite lines from any of the episodes were "When the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the one..."

On TNG I think my favorite episode I am in agreement with the others who chose when Picard lived a lifetime on the ancient planet - it was very well done. My favorite line of that series was with Q, when he lost his powers and was upset
Q - "I became weak, I had to lie down, then I lost consciousness"
Picard - "You fell asleep."

Time to test the mettle here. Extreme trivia, so extreme that I'll do something drastic if anyone knows. If you know me, you know that drastic takes on a whole new meaning.

In the TNG cliffhanger in which the Borg were attacking, or the finale thereof, there was a reference to a place called Wolf359. From the plot it seems like a place either on the outskirts of our solar system or just outside. Wolf 359 was to be a sort of a last stand against the Borg.

From where did the term Wolf 359 come ? (in scifi, I know it is a red drawrf star)

And NO GOOGLING !

I used to work for a television station that carried ST: TNG. You'd be surprised at the promotional items that Paramount would provide as incentive. At one time I had a fairly hefty collection. Had is the operative word. They brought me a tidy sum.

My favorite line in that episode was when Guinan stabs Q with a fork and says "Seems human to me." when Q reacts in pain. I think it's a wonderful and succinct test for humanity.

That makes two of us. He reminds me of an edgy Puck from Shakespeare. I also enjoyed the ones with Jennifer Hetrick who played Picard's squeeze for a bit. Not serious- just fun. Recall Warf's line.."I protest. I am NOT a Merry Men." when they're playing Robin Hood? The dueling between Warf and Q was some of the most humorous in the series.
