No.  And I think people who speculate on such things have way too much free fucking time on their hands.

Jesus Christ people. Get laid.  Like anyone here is qualified to evaluate the intelligence activities of the various professionals from the various intelligence services involved.  That laymen continually speculate upon subjects which are so clearly beyond them is one of the many things which is rapidly convincing me that democracy is really not a good idea.

You are probably right. Like Lincoln said about the dec. of indep. and slavery, paraphrasing...better we take our CIA backed fascism whole and pure without the base alloy of a 'democratic' hypocrisy.

They surely want you to believe that there operations etc. are so very complicated that you shouldn't worry about it and just leave it all to them which is exactly how the CIA does operate. But with that...their battle is half won.

Thank you for the thoughtul post, Mr. Rodgers.

Number one I refuse to capitalize his name, so deal.

I thought we needed another bin laden, thread.

Of course I am glad that we caught bin laden, very glad.

I thought bin laden was going to end up dying from his infirmities or old age.

Does anyone else wonder why it took 10 years to find that "person"?

We have all this technology, CIA, undercover operations, top secret operatives and operations, all these secret secret police, informers, best of the best of everything in the world, and we can't find that thing that was hiding in plain sight?

10 years???

It just really makes me wonder.

If he had died and we never found the body, I could understand that, but he was alive?
living with his children, marrying new wives? having babies? watching t.v.?

Is it just me, or does it seem a bit weird that it took so long to "locate" bin laden, especially in this day and age.

Also, what about the Pakistanians, that couldn't see someone in plain sight?
How much foreign aid, does the US give to Pakistan again?

10 years? Hardly. Bush, who you probably voted for, gave up trying to find him. It was only after Obama got into the White House that the hunt was taken up again. Thank Bush, Cheney, Rummy, Rice, Powell, etc. etc. etc...

Give some credit to Jimmy Carter and Frank Church for neutering the CIA

Hmmm............maybe we should give some credit to Dubya as well:

Bush: Truly not concerned about bin Laden

Moonhead -> RE: Does anyone else wonder why it took almost 10 years to find bin laden? (5/9/2011 5:46:04 AM)

I think he's got that one backasswards, in any case: Carter was neutered by the CIA, not vice versa.

Wind down the war on terror?

That is not how I see it.  If anything - it re-sparks the war in terror.

Nope, it is not just you who wonders, for I do too, but all I can say in answer, was OBL served a political purpose and his final purpose was boosting a flagging presidents political career.

But RO is quite correct, some people do not sell out there principles for money, for there is still some integrity left in this modern world and besides OBL I believe had taken on some kind of folk hero status for being a rebel up against what many over there see as the oppressor.

Perhaps OBL was seen as a modern day Saladin, seeing as it was Bush who mentioned crusade.

Yeah, he was a real fucking hero.

How about if I buy you a plane ticket and you can visit all the families that this coward devastated and explain to them how he was just rebelling against their oppression.

I dont think you understood his point, what he was telling the questioner

Nor did I ever get the impression that Obama has been going on and on about Obama like a possessed madman

Its good we got him, but its not the end of radical Islam by any stretch

No it is not, but Bush decided to put the focus in the wrong direction for whatever reasons.

And I do understand what he was saying and he was right to a certain degree.

What I don't understand is why he was saying it less than a year after proclaiming we would get Bin Laden "dead or alive".

Hillwilliam -> RE: Does anyone else wonder why it took almost 10 years to find bin laden? (5/9/2011 6:10:44 AM)

Points.

1. Bush quit looking for him. It's hard to find someone if you aren't looking for him

2. The Pakistani givernment (at least part) was helping him stay hidden.

3. This will not end the war on terror. Unfortunately, as long as there are people who want to live in the 21st century, there will be people who want to live in the 13th century trying to kill them and vice versa.

Sanity -> RE: Does anyone else wonder why it took almost 10 years to find bin laden? (5/9/2011 6:20:07 AM)

Thats a direct lie, Bush didnt quit looking for him, he just didnt obsess over him

Sanity -> RE: Does anyone else wonder why it took almost 10 years to find bin laden? (5/9/2011 6:21:07 AM)

Neither did Obama obsess over him, as far as I can tell

People can read the facts for themselves easily enough

Bush Quotes about Bin Laden

"The most important thing is for us to find Osama bin Laden. It is our number one priority and we will not rest until we find him."
- G.W. Bush, 9/13/01

"I want justice...There's an old poster out West, as I recall, that said, 'Wanted: Dead or Alive,'"
- G.W. Bush, 9/17/01, UPI

"...Secondly, he is not escaping us. This is a guy, who, three months ago, was in control of a county [sic]. Now he's maybe in control of a cave. He's on the run. Listen, a while ago I said to the American people, our objective is more than bin Laden. But one of the things for certain is we're going to get him running and keep him running, and bring him to justice. And that's what's happening. He's on the run, if he's running at all. So we don't know whether he's in cave with the door shut, or a cave with the door open -- we just don't know...."
- Bush, in remarks in a Press Availability with the Press Travel Pool,
The Prairie Chapel Ranch, Crawford TX, 12/28/01, as reported on
official White House site

"I don't know where bin Laden is. I have no idea and really don't care. It's not that important. It's not our priority."
- G.W. Bush, 3/13/02

"I am truly not that concerned about him."
- G.W. Bush, repsonding to a question about bin Laden's whereabouts,
3/13/02 (The New American, 4/8/02)

Sure sounds like he didnt care whether he was found or not.

Considering that Obama made Bin Laden a priority again after he got in office and two years after that Bin Laden is found, sounds like something was different between the two administrations.

In case you missed it the first time.

A few quotes taken out of context dont tell the story.

He changed over time, people do that. Its no crime, and if you think about the circumstances I think reasonable people can agree that its understandable that he endeavored to focus on the bigger picture more instead

Those quotes are direct answers to questions about Osama Bin Laden, would you like the press questions as well to see they were taken IN context.

Revisionist history is a common practice among the conservatives on this board. If ONE of you ever admitted the truth I would probably pass out from shock.

Sanity -> RE: Does anyone else wonder why it took almost 10 years to find bin laden? (5/9/2011 8:15:53 AM)

Quoting people out of context in order to make bogus points is SOP for certain leftists at least

mnottertail -> RE: Does anyone else wonder why it took almost 10 years to find bin laden? (5/9/2011 8:17:45 AM)

Nobody has been quoted out of context, you haven't any proof of that, no logic and no reason for that statement,  and certainly, Bush wasn't quoted out of context.

Sanity -> RE: Does anyone else wonder why it took almost 10 years to find bin laden? (5/9/2011 8:21:13 AM)

There can never be enough proof to convince a true ideologue can there, but go ahead and pursue your fantasy that Bush didnt want bin laden captured, ordered the CIA to ignore him... Im sure someone somewhere is buying that

I don't know, nobody is convincing you.

But perhaps you can show us some proof of your assertions, because HWs got actual quotes from the horses mouth and all you have is imputation, impugning, but no fact, not even any circumstantial evidence.

So, lets see the proof.

I mean you dont have causality, but you got Carter stripping the CIA which makes W blind but the Kenyan see?  Jesus Christ indeed.  (The affrontery of that leap in public is miraculous).
