The Trial is an amazing musical composition; a triumph even and very arguably the best song on The Wall. The Wall itself is a very well constructed and damn good narrative. To create an album with the scope of The Wall is a feat that should be applauded by anyone with a few braincells and a pair of ears. Roger became overbearing but if everyone allows you to be the sole songwriter, you're going to become such. Wright also was dealing with a cocaine problem and was unproductive. Combine that with Roger's controlling nature, of course they were going to butt heads.

Dark Side of the Moon is vastly superior to The Wall but The Wall is a historic composition warranting respect from both a musical and storytelling standpoint. The tour for it was also the most elaborate stage show ever at that time period and Roger's re-boot of it has taken the cake and will hold it's spot for a long time to come.

Basically, what I'm trying to say is... your taste is bad and you should feel bad.

What he said.

Although... I'll admit that there have been a few times when I wanted to say: "Okay kid, we get it... your daddy died in the war and you're very angry about it. But, you know what? You're not the only kid who lost his daddy in the war... so get the fuck over it already!" But just a few times.

Guess I'll have to stand in judgement by a guy who thinks Roger Waters is a better song writer than Lennon was! [:D]

I sometimes sit around on my leather chair and look out the window to contemplate what I hate more; Pink Floyd or Muse.

Probably Muse.

I hope that was tongue-in-cheek like...

I wonder what I hate more: blow jobs or hot chocolate...

Probably hot chocolate. It's hard to compete with blow jobs or Pink Floyd.

What do blow jobs and Pink Floyd have in common?

They both suck.

</trollface>

They both make you want to throw back your head and shout: "OH YEAH BABY! THAT'S THE STUFF!"

(and afterwards both leave you feeling drained... but in a good way) [8D]

The wall is pure fucking genius....Not a single marginal track.

If forced to give up the Beatles or Floyd....So long, Here Comes the Sun...Hello, Pigs on the wing.

Somewhere in the CD racks I have the bootleg demos for The Wall-very cool stuff. Just Roger on an acoustic with these semi nascent songs that would one day metastasize into legend.

I tip my hat to Domi's Animals nod.
2 pages of Floydian discussions and nobodies brought up their best album yet.
For shame.

And yes, Roger is a better lyricist than the overrated Lennon...

"You gotta be crazy, you gotta have a real need
You gotta sleep on your toes, and when you're on the street
You gotta be able to pick out the easy meat with your eyes closed
And then moving in silently, down wind and out of sight
You gotta strike when the moment is right without thinking.
And after a while, you can work on points for style
Like the club tie, and the firm handshake
A certain look in the eye, and an easy smile
You have to be trusted by the people that you lie to
So that when they turn their backs on you
You'll get the chance to put the knife in.
You gotta keep one eye looking over your shoulder
You know it's going to get harder, and harder, and harder as you get older
And in the end you'll pack up, fly down south
Hide your head in the sand
Just another sad old man
All alone and dying of cancer.
And when you loose control, you'll reap the harvest that you've sown"

With you there.

And it has the peculiar quality of being superb whether you're sober, you're full of billy-whiz, coke, dope, acid or shrooms.

Or at least, I've been lead to understand.

There isn't even a competition. Lennon's only GREAT lyrics were to Imagine. Most of the Beatles' best songs had lyrics that were only so-so. Lennon could write better singles than Waters... but Pink Floyd didn't do singles. Lennon is terribly overrated as a lyricist and was only the second-best guitarist in the band.

Ipod Shmipod!

The only way to truly experience DSOTM is through a DECENT set of over the ear head phones while mellowing on a tasty buzz. [8D]

I'm not saying I won't be in line to buy the new disks... just that those tiny little ear bud thing-a-ma-jigs just don't cut it when it comes to the Floyd boys.

My girlfriend bought a set of earbuds made by some company called Skull Candy and they rival my fancy sealed back over the ear headphones so much that I promptly absconded with them.

As far as DSOTM goes I can no longer listen to the album without sepia images of Judy Garland seeping into my head.

Can't wait for Moon to hit. But I really find it sad  commentary that folks in the music industry are putting the Compact Disc out to pasture so easily (at least that's what continual articles make it sound like). And in favor of what? The all too LOSSY mp3?
I spent close to 15 years working with other Grateful Dead tapers working out conventions that would allow for online music file formats that were robust and true to the dynamics expected of a Compact Disc and Audio DVD. And during that time I encountered a lot of coders working on codecs that were "good enough". And the 'good enough' they are talking about, just plain sucks.
I have zero doubts that the Floyd folks will release something of monumental quality, cause well, that's just what they do.

Discs wont be gone until FLAC or better is routine.

And the best way to listen to DSOTM was live in 2007, second best is the board feeds from the Chile and Colombia shows. Third best might be the studio version but live in '73 was close.

You're both wrong, surround sound is the only way to go!

Thanks for the link, now I know what to get my friends for XMas this year.

I don't think I'll ever enjoy a concert as much as Roger Water's The Wall last year...

Overall experience youre right. 2007 was a better tour musically though. If you don't have the "iShoot iEdit" video of The Wall run to your nearest torrent site. Its incredibly well done, and I cant imagine better until the Athens show is officially released.

(If you dont do torrents, PM me)

- he actually wanted to replace all the members because he didn't think they were up to it technically!!! lol Did he want to transform the band into Weather Report or what? [:D]

His post-PF tours proved that Gilmour especially wasn't up to it technically. NM and RW were never virtuosos on their instruments, at least DG was/is (or close) But Bramhall and Kilminster both kick Gilmour's ass techinically.

There isn't a live performance by PF as a whole that surpasses any RW tour, except possibly the throwaway Kaos tour, which was junk live.

Lennon vs RW? Omg not even close. And OMFG, Domi actually got something right once in his life. The Animals tour was by far the best PF tour, and the album unquestionably Gilmour's best guitar work.

Still, listen to Snowy White and Doyle Brahmall doing Dogs on In the Flesh. David who?

TheRaptorJesus -> RE: Pink Floyd re-issue (5/12/2011 5:49:44 PM)

Holy fucking shit.... Willbur is a Floyd-o-phile and loves Roger Waters?

I knew there was common ground somewhere. I will now admit that you have at least one redeeming quality.

Pink Floyd... tearing down walls since 1979.

Did you happen to see the recent Wall tour live or have you only seen the torrent version?

Well, "so-so" depends on what you consider their best songs, I suppose. Truthfully except for Blackbird and WMGGW I don't know who wrote most of the lyrics. But, "For No One", "In My Life" and "Here There and Everywhere" are pretty damn good lyrics from those other two guys.
