I see he is working on another alternate history piece.

Hopefully it won't tank as badly as his last one did, and he'll be able to get out of politics and concentrate on being a hard right SF writer like his mate Pournelle...

What numbers are you talking about Richie, because Reagan had some pretty piss poor ones at times.

In a reelection campaign, RML, it all comes down to just one set of numbers that matter. Here are the numbers I'm talking about, in their most simplified form, with a map that shows you where the numbers came from.

Not my fault Gary Hart self-destructed. Did he really think the media loved him that much?

FR -

From Michelle Malkins website this morning... something good enough to share:

quote:

Ow. Ow. Doubled over from laughing so hard. Need a tissue to wipe away the tears. Hoo-boy. Via Michael O’Brien at The Hill:

Gingrich: ‘I’m not a Washington figure’

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.) said he doesn’t view himself as a “Washington figure,” positioning himself as an anti-D.C. candidate in his campaign for president.

Gingrich railed against the Washington establishment in a breakfast Monday hosted by the Christian Science Monitor, claiming the mantle of the “change” candidate in the field of GOP presidential aspirants.

“I’m not a Washington figure, despite the years I’ve been here,” Gingrich said. “I’m essentially an American whose ties are across the country and is interested in how you change Washington, not how you make Washington happy.”

Good God. I cannot think of ANYONE who's been a Washington figure as long as Gingrich.  Unless we're talking Clinton.

That's like me claiming that I'm not really a poster on collarme.

Here's another possible candidate for the Republican nomination.

George Pataki Reconsidering Presidential RunPosted by Christina Lam on May 24, 2011 5:14 PM .

George Pataki, former governor of New York, has not ruled out a 2012 presidential run. He is currently reconsidering after the news that Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels pulled out of the race.

"I'm not a candidate at this point, but down the road, you never say never," Pataki said to the Boston Globe. "We'll see what happens over the course of the next month.”

For now, the Republican politician is working on an advertising campaign through his advocacy group, No American Debt, which is focused on reducing the federal debt.

"President Obama has the worst fiscal record of any president in the history of our country," Pataki said. “This year, we’ll have the largest deficit than in any year in the history of our country. …It’s not sustainable.”

No American Debt will run adds in New Hampshire targeting President Obama, as well as Republicans who Pataki believes aren't doing enough.

Pataki wants the federal government to balance the budget the same way he claims to have done in New York: by cutting the workforce and reducing Medicare and Medicaid.

Pataki's fiscal conservatism may make him popular with many Republicans, but as a presidential candidate he would also have to defend some of his stances on social issues-- such as abortion rights and a cap and trade program to curb greenhouse gas emissions.

Mitch Daniels, Christ Christie, Donald Trump, and Haley Barbour have officially announced they're out.

Huntsman, Cain, Gingrich are in, with Pawlenty and Romney obvious candidates in all but announcements.  Bachmann is likely, and Palin and Santorum may be.  I can't take anyone but Huntsman, Romney, and Pawlenty seriously, though.

Heck, I remember the Dukakis-Bush 1 debate where Dukakis lost the election. Bush accused Dukakis of being a card carrying member of the ACLU- as if liberal were something shameful- and Dukakis whined for a moderator- thus showing all the Republican claims that he was a wimp (him posing in a tank was pretty silly) had some basis. Had he said instead-- and with some heat- "Excuse me Senator McCarthy- I didn't know that being a liberal in this country was something illegal!" he might have had a shot....

Sam

Was it any sillier than Dubya in a flight suit on an aircraft carrier?

Dukakis was a poor choice for a candidate but let's not try to compare ridiculous photo ops.

Dukakis in a tank? Yeah, actually it looked sillier than Bush's photo op. Bush at least was a pilot, although not a Navy pilot. However, his premature declaration of the war being over is pretty stupid in hindsight, although some of us thought so then...

Bush was a National Guard pilot.

A weekend warrior who flew outdated aircraft and then somehow disappeared from his duties.

For him to be flown in on that carrier wearing a uniform was an embarrassment.

If you want to call him a military pilot then explain to me why he didn't volunteer for service in Vietnam.

He had every opportunity to do so.

As Richard Nixon would say Obama is a formidable candidate. I think the first reason is the most important reason.

2012 presidential race: Why are so many Republicans opting out?
Big-name Republicans who won't run for the party's nomination — like Chris Christie — far outnumber those who want to take on President Obama next year

1. Nobody thinks they can beat Obama
Each Republican who has bowed out has his reason, be it "personal, strategic, financial," says Roger Simon at Politico. But many also have a bigger reason: "They doubt any Republican can beat Obama in 2012, and they would rather wait for an open seat in 2016." They are wrong that Obama is unbeatable, but he's not going to just hand them the keys to the White House, either.
2. They're afraid of the negative ads
3. The media will shill for Obama
4. There's no need for more candidates
5. Only chumps run for president

Find the numbers ok, RML? Those were the ones you asked about.

From the Pataki thing, is the conventional wisdom about moderate social policies going to be so true this year? Fiscal conservative, social moderate might play very well.

No, what you are trying to do is spin.

I think it was pretty obvious what numbers you were referring to, and then when you were called on it you came up with this.

Obama is in even deeper trouble if you look at the electoral map after reapportionment and given his negative popularity ratings in Florida and Ohio. North Carolina is gone and Virginia pretty much gone. There is almost no risk to any 2008 Red state.

First he has to hold Pennsylvania, Washington, Michigan and Wisconsin, which are leaning Blue still. Lose one of those he's toast. Even if he holds those he has to win every one of the toss up states, New Hampshire, Colorado, New Mexico, Nevada and Iowa.

LOLOLOFUCKINGL.  Yeah, he's hurting alright.   Trouble is, angle worms are not running against him, its neo-cons and teabaggers.

Angle worms might stand a chance.  Same true for congress.  So, democrats or angle worms would be a tough fight.

Democrats or <untranslatable> is a cake walk.

More nonsense that you constantly pull out of your ass with nothing to substantiate it because you know it is wrong.

Your constant lies on here are getting beyond old.

And what is really sad is it only takes a quick search to prove your bullshit wrong.
