Hmmmm...I just realized that I've been up for over 9 hours now & I've only had one actual meal: breakfast. I've had a little hummus & flax tortilla chips & a cheese kaiser roll with a little butter, but that's really all I've eaten. I'm beginning to feel a little hungry now. The thing is that I just don't always perceive hunger & I can go hours without eating & feel just fine. I really do need to eat now. But I really don't feel like it. *sigh* Maybe I'll just eat some of the 4 lbs of blueberries I just bought.

Been crazy busy, and I've just started the diet that my brother recommended. It's a slow carb diet. No white starches, sugar (or anything ending in -tose), corn, ketchup or anything deep fried. But, once a week there's a cheat day where you just go over and above binge eating and somehow it keeps the metabolism going and still the weight is lost. I'm excited to see how it goes because I have no idea how it really works and honestly seems too good to be true. But I've heard lots of people were successful on it.

The food pretty much tastes like crap but, today has been the first day I've done it all day and I'm not exhausted (I wake up at 3:30am to go to work and am normally wiped out by 5pm). I've never cooked super healthy before so it'll be trial and error for awhile. The past couple days I've taken my dog for a two hour walk, with a one hour break in between for him to play at the dog park and for some reason, I'm awake and feeling kinda good. I have moved my scale from the bathroom to the kitchen so that I can check my weight when I head to the fridge thinking I'm hungry and remind myself, "I'm not hungry, I'm just bored."

I think what you are doing is called carb cycling.  Can you get the name of it from your brother, its something i have been reading about on another site and it sounds interesting.  I THINK, the theory is you deplete your glycogen levels and then ramp them back up once a week.

Can i ask what exactly are you eating that the food tastes like crap?

There are a lot of slow digesting carbs that taste yummy. And don't forget, just because you're dieting doesn't mean you can't use spices (just watch the salt). Almost all of my carbs everyday are slow.

I'm trying just a whole bunch of veggies and proteins together. Some have worked. Some, meh.

I'm going out of town for the week and may need to stock up so that other people don't need to cater to me and my diet (especially since some days will be spent in the hospital keeping my friend company as her daughter recovers from surgery)

It's only the first few days so it's still a lot of trial and error. I've learned that frozen lima beans are gross so far.

I got the informtion from a book, I mentoned it early called "The 4-Hour Body: The Uncommon Guide to Rapid Fat Loss, Incredible Sex and Becoming Superhuman" by Timothy Ferriss, he has a slow carb diet in there which I'm following pretty well thus far but yeah, the food is blah.

I've looked online for varying lists of what I should and shouldn't have. The worst part is, foods I never obsessed about before are becoming cravings. Like I'm aware of WAY more pizza delivery people at my complex and all I think about is how yummy a piece of pizza would be. Or a nice cold Coke or something. It's sucky. I have no idea what to do about the cravings, trying to ignore them just makes it that much worse.

I use a lot of spices and seasonings in my cooking. I never use salt unless the recipe specifically calls for it and even then I sometimes leave it out. My go-to seasonings are: Italian Seasoning, Dill, Garlic Powder, Onion Powder and Black Pepper. I've got all sorts of crazy ones too like I've got Herbes de Provence and have no idea what to do with them. I just saw it and thought "Looks interesting, why not."

In any event I weighed myself today and I'm ten pounds down from where I was when I was weighed just a few weeks ago. So, yay me.

The keeping on top of actually doing more physical activity and doing it regularly is obviously helping, and seeing the proof definitely is helping to reinforce it.

I've been suffering from a little anorexia the last few days. Either I don't perceive the hunger & so forget to eat or I do perceive it but preparing food & eating seems like too much trouble.

I too miss pizza & cheeseburgers, but not enough to actually call the pizza delivery people or go around the corner to the McD's. That all seems like too much trouble too.

It may be due to the pain & the pain pills, I don't know. Maybe I should try some herbal pain remedies & I might get hungry to the point of actually fixing something.

I did force myself to go cut up the veggies I bought the other day & I boiled some eggs & made a most delicious salad. With the veggies all cut up, I will eat salads. And now I have the eggs for protein. I also have some chicken breasts & thighs I need to cook up so that I can just eat them when I'm hungry. I bought some yukon gold potatoes & a potato masher with the idea that I would boil them & mash them, but forgot to buy the milk/sour cream to make them nice & creamy smooth. I may just boil them up anyway.

Tomorrow is the first appt at the pain clinic. We'll see.....

My biggest issue is mornings, I almost never eat breakfast. And when I do, it's not within an hour of waking like apparently it's supposed to be. At earliest it's at least 3 hours after waking.

I also have many times where I don't have the desire to eat. I look in the fridge and simply don't want it, or if I do I don't want to put forth the effort to make it.

Yukon gold potatoes are so yummy. They are my favorite potato, I just nuke them in the microwave and eat them plain. I'm weird though, I love potatoes that way.

Good luck on your appointment, I hope all goes well.

Thank you YBS.

I have no microwave & am considering not getting one. I seem to be doing fine without one. I've lived in this little place for over 2 months & haven't really missed having one. It just requires a little more planning, like I used to do before there were such things. If I want to thaw frozen meat, I just think about it a few hours ahead. I can cook anything on top of the stove or in the big oven that I want to eat. And not having the microwave seems to keep me from buying the convenience foods. And really, I don't work, so I have the time to do this.

When I was taking care of my former mother-in-law, I was charged with getting her to gain weight. She only weighed 85 lbs when I took over her care. We discovered that if she ate first thing in the morning, she'd have a better appetite the rest of the day. So I'd get up, make her breakfast & her coffee, put it on a tray & go in her room & wake her up. She'd eat before she was fully awake. And we had quality time together eating breakfast in bed every morning. From that, I got into the habit of eating in the morning.

Ahh gotcha.  Yes, i looked at that plan when you first mentioned it or someone did.  I don't like legumes so i tend not to use them lol  I couldn't do a plan that took away completely my cheese -- gots to have me some cheese.

But you seem to be doing well on it so good luck.   For cravings, i found L-Glutamine sometimes helps for the sugar cravings.  The rest i never really worried about as the low carb i do tends to have substitutes for everything i enjoy.

Hi All:

This weekend wasn't too bad (food wise)...had alot of Kashi cold cereal w/fruit & skim milk in addition to brown rice & salsa for later meals.
I did my strength training class on Fri. and afterward was too tired to do anything else so I went home & walked the dog a bit.
Sat. we took the dog to the park about 2-3 miles from my place & my girl drove us all there, we played for about 1.5hrs then the dog & I walked back home. It was a nice brisk walk so that was my cardio.
I did laundry on Sat so alot of walking up/down 3flights of stairs.
Sunday was my "rest day" so tonight I'll be back in the gym doing my strength training.

I didn't have any yogurt in the house this morning & I had to be up 4 hours early for the appt at the pain clinic. I ate a banana & some dry granola & had my 2 cups of half-decaf coffee. When I got home, I wanted to take Lushy out to eat somewhere but she had me come upstairs & she made a really yummy roast beast & cheese sammie with mustard on & 2 small wedges of watermelon. I'm going to cook the chicken up soon & have that along with yukon gold potatoes & a salad for dinner later.

The pain dr is going to inject both my hips with cortisone on Thursday & I'm hoping that will bring me enough pain relief that I will be able to start being more active again. The form asked me what my goal was there & I said that I just wanted to be pain-free enough that I could get back to the activity level I was at last year. Here's hopin!!!

You go, girly!!!!! I'm having a very bad pain day today, so I gave in & bought oreo peanut butter fudge cookies. I must say they are quite disappointing. Perhaps after the 2 vicodin I just took kick in.

Good early morning, MyLittlePonies,

Yeah, can't bring myself to refer to the members of this thread as "losers". That just doesn't work for me.

my active role in personal health and welfare went a bit wayside the last few days.
Sunday i ordered some China-food, for i just wasn't up to cooking. However, i don't see this as a horrible stumble. i fall into the school of thought that you can eat whatever you like, so long as you do so sensibly.

Haven't been walking either, but i have this little note for getting out of gym-class.

Brother-by-love and flat-mate Frater is home again from the LARP convention. And we had our part-time communist (and a half) over for the weekend, and she and the fetus will be back this weekend. Two nights ago we ran a marathon of "The Big Bang Theory" and deco-pauged a GIR (Invader Zim) lamp for her nursery.

Hi Linnaea,

I've had three cortisone injections in my right hip in the past 6 mos., one in the SI joint and two in the piriformis. They have helped me tremendously. I've also had a couple of trigger point injections to help with any lingering pain. Those are basically lidocaine with a small amount of cortisone. I've gone from pain on and off for three years, to constant pain for months on end, to an occasional day of pain here and there.

Good luck,
peach
