Impishhellcat,

It's not a race, do what you can as every little bit counts.  Just a reminder, you have been doing GREAT!  So now you simply need to incorporate the formal exercising.  I am going to say this and take it in the spirit is intended as it's intended with good faith, be careful you don't let "life" become the excuse.  This is about life changes and there will always be something that keeps you, if you let it, from actively working out in a formal way.  So be sure to note that on these days you haven't actually  scheduled working out, you park farther away, you put more activity into your day in what you ARE doing.  It doesn't all have to be done in a day, but small changes and as it's been said, working out should be just as important as any other thing you have going on in your day, so schedule it just as you would any meeting, class, downtime etc.

You have been doing awesome, and will simply build on the strong foundation you have been creating.

angel

Angel I get what you are saying. I think maybe my point didn't come across as I liked. I walk. All the time. I park farther away on campus. However, I used to work out hardcore 5 days a week. I would do a TRX class 2x's a week, a strength and tone class 1x a week and then I would run two days. I wasn't thin I've never been thin, but I was toned very well in most areas except my core. Now that I've started school my schedule has been very hectic. It has been extremely difficult to even find down time. I walk the dogs almost every day except exam weeks, four days a week I spend 3 hours a day in the car traveling to and from school, on top of my wifely duties, studying, class, and caring for the dogs. I try to fit as much sleep into that schedule as I can, but most nights I'm up till at least midnight and most days I'm up before 6am. So, I do a lot less than what I'm used to. While I am not inactive ultimately if it comes down to sleeping, eating, or seeing my husband those things will end up taking priority over a work out. On weekends, the dogs and I have been hiking about four miles a day. Things will calm down in December when I'm not taking 15 credits.

Impishhellcat,

You'll get it figured out.  Your posts just seem like this not being able to work out is frustrating you and that you are sacrificing working out instead of just making it less of a priority.

Good luck, angel

grins, Impishellcat -- aren't and don't we all lol.   You'll get it and you are doing awesome!   My frustrations is i use the scale to see results because i am too impatient to wait until my clothes feel loose etc.  However, i can drive myself nuts when my weight fluctuates... but luckily it doesn't discourage me, it makes me obsessed lol.

LinnaeaBorealis -> RE: The *NEW and IMPROVED* CM Biggest Loser/Health and Fitness Thread! :D (10/6/2011 12:31:39 AM)

I met him when he weighed over 400 lbs. I loved him then & I love him now. I've watched his transformation. He's one of my dearest friends & I'm so very happy for all the good things going on in his life right now. I worried about him in the beginning because he would work out at least twice a day. But look where it's gotten him. When I get a full time job or 2 or3 part time jobs, I want to check out this Zumba thing.

I walked 7 blocks roundtrip to the store & back today instead of driving the car. I also parked a block away from work, worked hard for 4 hours & then walked the block back to the car. Ok, hobbled is more like it. I went to work for the first time without any pain meds. I also did the walk to & from the store without any. I took one tonight when I got home, though. I will continue to get better because I am determined to do it & because I won't let any pain slow me down.

After less than a week of eating vegetarian, I've noticed that my body doesn't smell bad anymore. I was taking a couple of showers a day & thinking YUCK!! I've also stopped having night sweats & I'm sleeping much better. I have more energy & am needing a whole lot less caffeine. And my clothes are getting looser on me. My friend who is guiding me says that my immune system will get even better and that I won't get sick as often. Since I rarely get sick more than once a year, if that, I figure that I won't get sick again in my lifetime!! [:D]

impishlilhellcat -> RE: The *NEW and IMPROVED* CM Biggest Loser/Health and Fitness Thread! :D (10/6/2011 5:46:06 AM)

I saw the movie Food Inc... I'm slowly working toward vegetarian. It's a difficult balance for me. I need a lot of protein to keep my energy up and my mind going. I have a hard time making/finding balanced meals. I do however, eat a lot of veggies being on WW. My husband is a meat eater though.. well really only chicken and fish at this point. So, I've been trying to buy grass fed organic chicken. It takes better and is treated much better. He won't eat salmon he had some that was really fishy. I love the Trident brand that is sweet lime chili. A little it of spice and citrus. Yum! I've found I like my fish and seafood spicy.

LinnaeaBorealis -> RE: The *NEW and IMPROVED* CM Biggest Loser/Health and Fitness Thread! :D (10/6/2011 10:17:01 AM)

I'm eating plain Fage Greek yogurt at least once a day. It's so worth the extra money it costs. Lots of yogurt brands are jumping on the Greek-style bandwagon, but they are still putting lots of crap in them, like gelatin & lots of sugars. I eat hummus with sugar snap peapods. I made my favorite fresh spaghetti sauce with cubes of tofu & put it over a spaghetti squash. I have walnuts to snack on. I also eat eggs. I find that I get lots of protein that way. I wasn't really eating all that much meat before, so this hasn't been a difficult transition for me. The only meat I'm eating is smoked salmon & that's just once in a while. I'm also trying to stay away from processed carbs, like bread & pasta, but will eat the carbs that come in actual food, like potatoes & fruits. I also have a serving of granola every day.

I remember 40+ years ago when the low-carb diet was all the rage, it was suggested that one stay under 60 grams of carbohydrates per day. The other thing that I remember is that the brain requires carbohydrates in order to function.

impishlilhellcat -> RE: The *NEW and IMPROVED* CM Biggest Loser/Health and Fitness Thread! :D (10/6/2011 11:41:48 AM)

We eat a ton of veggies we get them at the local farmers market we don't usualy eat pasta or a lot of manufactered carbs either. Unfortunately I cannot do a lot of hummus it gives me hives. We eat. Lot of greek yogurt. Its got protein not enough. I had my metabolism tested two yrs ago I really need a high protein diet. I don't do eggs much I do egg beaters because of ww pts and I do a lot of protein shakes. Its working slowly I think being a full on vegtarian will be much slower process as I find what works for me

LinnaeaBorealis -> RE: The *NEW and IMPROVED* CM Biggest Loser/Health and Fitness Thread! :D (10/6/2011 3:02:07 PM)

I'm also incorporating tofu into my diet wherever I would have eaten meat before, like in the spaghetti sauce. I eat whole eggs & I would eat whole milk yogurt if I could find it, because we need fats in our diets also. I'm not eating anything much that I put cheese or butter on, so those fats are no longer in my diet. And not eating meat, the fats from that are not in my diet anymore either. So I figure I can afford the whole eggs.

I guess I don't really need more protein than I'm getting because I'm feeling fabulous & losing weight. I'm loving all the other side effects, also. Of course, smoked salmon being a vegetable does help. [8D]

impishlilhellcat -> RE: The *NEW and IMPROVED* CM Biggest Loser/Health and Fitness Thread! :D (10/6/2011 3:54:55 PM)

Lol. I can't do tofu either. I have horrible food allergies. I LOVE cheese although I cut down my butter and milk (I love milk) intake quite a bit. WW's makes a string cheese that is lowfat and still tastes great. I do need to incorporate a wider variety of veggies and probably fruits into my diet. I adore watermelon, but alas it's out of season now.

On the flip side the dogs and I did over four miles tonight after my exam annnnnd I'm starting to run again YAY!

All this talk of salmon and its now what I'm having for dinner. [:D]

That last post was from my phone, which is why it's atrocious!

LillyBoPeep -> RE: The *NEW and IMPROVED* CM Biggest Loser/Health and Fitness Thread! :D (10/7/2011 8:00:21 AM)

i'm not a huge fan of tofu unless it's extra firm and was frozen -- it makes the texture a little denser/chewier, and i like it better that way.

i went on my first run after slacking off for a couple of months, and it was really nice. i didn't do as badly as i thought i would considering how much time i've avoided it. i have a slight "exercise-induced asthma" issue (pfft.) so i have to do something about that, but all in all, it was a really nice time. :)

KeriB -> RE: The *NEW and IMPROVED* CM Biggest Loser/Health and Fitness Thread! :D (10/8/2011 9:51:50 AM)

Well, I've officially joined weight watchers again, after the free health screenings at work said that I'm at the beginning stages of high blood pressure. Although most of this probably has to do with my job than my eating, still figured I could stand to lose some weight and have a bit more support with it.

impishlilhellcat -> RE: The *NEW and IMPROVED* CM Biggest Loser/Health and Fitness Thread! :D (10/8/2011 9:58:39 AM)

I took the dogs for two four mile walk/runs this weekend. It felt good. Although my husband is complaining of hurting and needing a break and the dogs are sore from shots so today will just be a short walk day.. more like two miles.

barelynangel -> RE: The *NEW and IMPROVED* CM Biggest Loser/Health and Fitness Thread! :D (10/22/2011 11:07:24 AM)

10 Weeks until December 31, 2011.

I tend to be a goal maker based on starts and ends.  Sundays are a beginning, saturdays the end so to speak.   So January 1, 2011, was a beginning for me and December 31, 2011 is the end.  This year i worked to make changes in my life and focus on getting back in shape.  While i did okay, i didn't do as GREAT as i wanted.  So, in evaluation of what i wanted to do and to finish up hard -- i have decided to really focus and give as much as i can to my goal of changing my lifestyle as i have been slacking a lot lately.

I have been reviewing over the past couple months the Paleo way of eating and think i am going to experiment and switch from low carb to that plan of eating.  NOT because my plan doesn't work -- it does when i do it -- but because one of the best ways for me to focus is to be learning something.   This isn't a must but just something i am going to play around with to see if it may be something i want to switch to in understanding how food affects me.

So i propose a individual challenge to those interested:
1.  You make a specific goal for the next 10 weeks with regard to fitness, and you make that goal your priority. You focus hard and place your fitness plan as one of the priorities in your life.  This may be very hard for some but it's doable if you let it be. -- My specific goal is I will begin working out again.

2.  Each week you make yourself a plan on how you will keep your fitness plan/goal as one of the priorities -- you do this by what works for you: i.e., for me, it means scheduling my work outs every week on Sundays.

3. At the end of each day, you give 5 minutes to thinking about did you work towards your goal today, and see how you can do better with it in the future or if what you did is a great plan to maintain for the future.

4.  See this as an enjoyment not a chore.

I hope everyone is doing well and is continuing their journey towards whatever fitness goals you have made.

angel

Sounds like a good plan. Stop slacking off. It's going to be cold soon. Time to work.

I've gained back about three lbs, but my new smaller jeans still fit. :p
3's a long way from 30 but I could gain it back if I don't pay attention. Gotta get back to running regularly.

What are some winter-compatible outdoor activiities you like? Or do you just go to an indoor gym?

Looser fitting clothes is always a better indicator than weight. I usually just stick with going to the gym and indoor stuff. Exercising outside has its own challenges.

Winter is a time when you cover up. A time to put in the extra work. And summer is when you can enjoy the results.

You're doing a good job, keep it up.
