Feinstein pushed for renewal of the Patriot Act ? Not hardly. He was the only senator out of 100 to vote against the original Patriot Act. He was also voted out of office last November and not able to support or oppose any bill.

Diane Feinstien, not Feingold

you're welcome!

I am a major Feingold fan, I was sorry he lost his seat

You're thinking of Feingold.

Never supported the Patriot Act at anytime, still don't, but it has become one of those "Have you stopped beating your wife type of issue.(that is in a non kinky way)
The President(either party) will be damned for signing it, damned if they don't sign it. In this day and age "soft on terrorisim" is akin to "soft on communinism in the 50's.
I wonder how much good it has done for intelligence against the proposed plots, that seem so endless?

Astounding how Bush policy is the same as Obama policy.     Maybe we should examine who the advisers are that never leave.

There are very few ideological purists these days. I have stances that I do not expect everyone I vote for to agree with. It is kinda like a relationship.... you have your list of things you need, you have the list of things you want, and then you have your list of deal breakers.

It depends on how important something is to me as to whether or not I will overlook it. Many people do not like the Patriot Act, but it isn't a deal breaker for them.

And if you lived in Florida, where not only the state but the entire election may hang in the balance and one person's influence could be critical, would you be so pure?

I would because that is a scenario you've cooked up right out of DC comics Bizzaro world.

Not in the realm of the universe, that.

Don't worry about that Wilbur,  Rick Scott is making sure that the Republicans will lose Florida.

A lot of people didn't like being compared to employees.

I don't live in Florida, I will never live in Florida, I have no desire to leave California, so why ask me this question?

I wonder, are you an ideological purist? Is there any sort of position that a Republican can hold that will nix your vote?

Most people are NOT ideological purists. They will vote the entire philosophical view point, measure the stances, and then they will find the person that most represents their views..or they will look at the numbers on the gas pump, their checkbook, and estimate of what their home is worth and vote based on that. Some will even vote the stock market... people have all sorts of ways they decide how to cast a vote.

I think it is odd and peculiar to insinuate people are hypocritical because they voice dissent on some issue, and then vote the way they best think the government should be run. If that is the position that the OP is taking, I wonder if he applies it to himself, or only to leftists?

You know, plenty of people on the right would have voted for Bush again, even though he bailed out all of those corporations, in fact I bet you might vote for him again if he could run against Obama. Or would you?

Its called a hypothetical question. I understand that requires more thought than youre used to though, so your ducking it is not surprise.

No, Im a pragmatist. If someone is right on the two most important issues, the economy and terrorism, then the rest dont matter.

Of course I would vote for Bush again, your rewriting of history notwithstanding.

You call it ducking, I call it a stupid question.. I am not in that position, the republicans haven't even presented a candidate.

And that is all it is ever going to be.  You haven't any demonstrable facts, so you Joe the Plumber everything.   Joe the Plumbering got us into this debt and the wars, and we are going to need some real wrenches to get it fixed.
