Well there isnt a school for it...but you should look at a book and see where the bone and muscles are, breaking a jaw, knocking a jaw out of place or causing whiplash would certainly take the fun out of it.Not to mention bruising tendons and muscles.

I prefer a open hand slap while holding My submissives head in the other hand.
Its gives you more control.

Exactly.  Cupping the jaw with the skull prevents TMJ damage as well.

How many faces must one slap to become an expert?  Is there a quota for how many times something must be done to qualify as an expert, or does one get nominated?  I wonder if the slappee would also say the slapper is an expert....  ;)

Well, again…I like it.  I like punching, too; but I’ve never had a broken bone or brain injury or even a split lip.  EVERYTHING is relative, yanno.  Do we really need to say you cannot substitute a baseball bat for a cane, or…not to put tacks in the ends of your floggers?

Surely any sane person wouldn’t play with a stranger or someone they didn’t know and trust to be REASONABLE?  It seems obvious to me that someone who had physical limitations like an unstable jaw or back or knees would need to communicate this to their partner and obviously avoid anything that would aggravate those injuries.

Still, there IS a way to absolutely enjoy face slapping AND punching…both in a D/s manner and one that need not be at all degrading or humiliating; if that is how they choose to do it.  For me, face-slapping is about insisting on ‘focus’ and punching is like deep-tissue work…heaven!

The face is not made to tolerate trauma. Facial tissue are delicate and easily damaged. If a blow is misplaced it can cause perminant eye and nerve damage, eye damage, joint damage, neck damage, even brain damage in some cases. Lips are are easily split if a blow stricks the wrong way. Skin over the cheekbone is easy easily torn. Eyes can be blacked if the checkbone is struck just right.

The face is made to take damage.

None of the things you have mentioned are life threatening.

If the face could not take damage and punishment, the injuries from being slapped would be.

The social response to a person who has been slapped is another thread. ;)  I was talking about physiological aspects to face slapping.

Sinergy

Perhaps they are not "life threatening injuries" but they are still injuries that can be avoided if someone takes the time to slap correctly. I personally find it disturbing that someone would say "well it wont kill" as if the injuries that could happen are irrelevant.

In my eyes they are not irrelevant injuries and should not be.

Hello Nika,

It seems I did not state my point correctly.

I do not do permanent injuries, markings, etc.  Its just me (and Im probably wrong) and I am going to stick with it.

I was simply pointing out the aspects of face slapping which could be considered life threatening / permanently damaging, although the point you made about cuts and scarring and broken facial bones, etc., are valid.

Im not sure I would consider them "irrelevant" injuries, but I temper that idea with the concept that my kink is not somebody else's kink.  Somebody wants facial scarring and broken bones, I am sure he/she will find somebody to oblige them.  I have never heard of anybody who was in to permanent neurological trauma and sequelae as a kink, but I suppose there has to be somebody out there into it.

I was simply attempting, in my post, to describe the brain trauma which can result from improper face slapping.

Enjoy your evening :)

A lot clearer than that and quite parallel to what I know about the mechanics of face slapping.

Nice job

Just wondering if You can be an expert at "Face Slapping?"

Face slapping certainly is an art to be acquired and appreciated. When I first starting smacking girls around, my aim wasn't as good, nor was my knowledge of how much force to apply—one can easily overdo it. Over time I developed grace in execution and accuracy, learning along the way that it's good to cradle the face in one hand and slap with the other, to avoid muscular stress of the neck and keep her pretty little face still. Take care to avoid landing blows on the ears; tympanic membrane damage isn't desirable at all, and momentary tinnitus is disorienting, in the very least. One must take care to avoid hitting the eyes, too—they're delicate and don't respond well to blunt impact.

Slapping the face is an art in that it deals with a delicate, sensory-oriented part of the body. It is a highly effective method of getting a girl's complete attention, but it must be practiced correctly. As with any property you value, it is important not to damage it. Balance the benefits of face slapping by observing and avoiding the potential risks in practicing it.

I think that there are probably people that could demonstrate this through your local club or BDSM association, and most larger cities have demonstrations on how to do many things from bondage to caning. If not a public demo, then perhaps someone at another event with some expertise would demonstrate it for you. The point is that people should learn from those who know, and then slowly practice the techniques themselves. As with anything, once you have practiced you become more proficient. I could be overlooking something in how people gain expertise, and I am sure there are other reasonable ways other than those I have stated.

greeting to all

I see so many different answer to this one question!
some are ok witht he right way to tell someone to slap a face.
But a broken nose? Nerve damage? Wait this is a slap a gentle but
firm slap, no way is it to be hard enough to break anyone nose or cheek
bone!

I do enjoy slapping of a submissive or slave face but what are we thinking here of,
a punch is what many of you maybe thinking of. A slap is and can be sexy and
powerful emotionally. It is never meant to burise or break anything.

take care all

I won't claim any expertese in this and it not something I really want to be involved in. However I've slapped a few people about in my time and my prefered method is to grasp a hand full of hair close to the scalp which should cause pain when it's twisted and then comence a forhand - backhand - forhand - backhand - forhand - backhand - forhand - backhand  session. For me it's usually been to ascertain some information from some poor scared turd who is out of his or her depth in shit so they get slapped about, not much facial (tissue) damage but redening and mayhaps a bruise or two.. I have to keep in mind in size and strength and keep it relitivally light. Usually I'll finish with a backhanded carotid punch which causes a small synaps which drops them stunned for a few seconds.... Like I say not what I'd be happy doing for fun ........

It's always been a hard limit for me.

But you all make it sound so intriguing.....

DAMN I hate it when one of my hard limits goes soft.

I will never understand the thrill of being slapped in the face... not for as long as I as I live.

I've experienced it... under non-consensual conditions... and the end results is damaged eye sight. Now, you can say what you want about cradling the jaw with your other hand but it still won't fly with me. I had no idea that firing a shot gun could damage my eyes either, until my eye doctor told me. The sudden jarring is hard on the retina's and muscles in the eye. Ok, so maybe the sudden jarring from hard impact play is too, but I don't do that either. There are a lot of things I don't do since my eye doctor told me that there is a possibility that I may loose my eyesight completely. It goes beyond a hard limit for me. Everyone talks about the damage to the jaw muscles and tendons... there's more to your face then that.

A friend of mine is now deaf in on ear due to being 'stage slapped' wrong -- one time. Another friend is now blind in one eye due to being face slapped with a stage slap that went wrong. In stage combat training we are told that there is too much potential damage by contact face slaps and we are taught the techniques that make it *look* like people are getting slapped, while keeping their faces and heads completely safe. From my POV, an actor's face is their livelihood, and you don't want to mess with that. Neither do you want to cause permanent damage.

I have seen too many accidents. Too many loose teeth, lost teeth, bruises, stitches, split lips, broken bones, noses, and concussions due to improper face slapping. I just won't do it -- it's a hard limit. You can punch me in any of the other major muscles areas of my body (the torso excepted) but you better not touch my face.

Short answer? You can probably slap somebody safely 100 times without an issue. But what about the 101st? It's too much of a risk for me, given what I've seen. I think, now, that face slapping for me is a hard limit.

Possible injuries that can result from slapping the face...

1.) Rupturing of the eye.
2.) Fracturing a cheek bone.
3.) Tearing of muscles
4.) Displacement of vertebrae with a strong enough strike
5.) Rupturing of the eardrum, if badly aimed.
6.) Dislocation of the lower mandible.

None of these types of injuries takes more than 10-15 psi.  Considering the average 98 pound weakling can impact with between 200-250 psi with a punch, this should give you a vague idea of how easy it would be to cause permanent injury to someone through slapping.  Was one of the many physics demonstrations, in a round-about way, I did in high school with a few friends.

Best way to avoid damage is to work with the other person on the timing, similar to staging a fight in the movies.  There will still be some sting, but the chance of injury drops massively.

Are we trying to slap someone to achieve an effect or are we trying to knock their head off?  If you're feeling the need to slap hard enough to cause damage, then perhaps you should have yourself a time out.

I think being the recipient of non consentual face slapping/punching , for me., .has doomed face slapping to the "hard limit" file, for both psychological....and physiological reasons.  By the grace of whatever "Powers that be " i was not permanantly damaged or more than slightly scarred.
To be honest, i'm a bit intimidated by...and hesitant to put myself in the hands of anyone who claims to be an "expert" at anything.

A few years ago I suffered a hand injury and had to have occupational therapy. With my injured digit (I nearly cut off my thumb) I had virtually no muscle in the area around the thumb. I couldn't pick up so much as a sponge with my left hand. They tested it to see how much strength I had in it. It tested out at 18 psi when pushed against my index finger. My other thumb had 90 psi. That is to put into context what Dustyn just said. You don't have to hit someone hard enough to "knock their head off" to exert 10 to 15 psi.

Using auto-reply here.

I was face slapped as a kid.  I don't think my mother bothered to use "proper technique" lol.  Either her hand or whatever was near it (shoe, spatula, etc) would meet my face with force.  Fortunately I was never injured.  It didn't happen a lot, but enough times to remain in my memory.

Master slaps me now.  I love when he does.  The first time he did, I was completely shocked.  A slap from him never fails to get my attention.  He doesn't tend to hold my face in place by the chin.  Sometimes he does by the hair.  Sometimes he uses both hands to slap - one, then the other, back to the one, and so on (it's a little overwhelming at times, this rapid boom boom boom across my face), and sometimes it will be as Ironbear described - forehand, back hand, forehand, etc.  The back hands are always intimidating.  Once I had to see my chiropractor to reset my jaw, and the slaps have not been so strong since then (I have jaw issues to begin with).

I can go right into subspace with a good smack.
