I recommend sleeping with somebody else, that usually makes the point pretty clearly.

Suze, it's really amazing how no matter what the problem, you can turn it into an excuse to sleep with somebody.

Rember one thing you have to be true to you before you can be true to another. 2nd we are all Adults, you should be able to say I dont' think you are what I'm looking for with out fear or any other neg reaction. Just a quick rant.

What a great thread. Interesting replies here. I didn't realize it should be any different than it's always been. Unless you've never dated, you've got a style for telling someone "no thanks" that works for you. I'd go with that. I usually offer a small compliment because everyone has something good about them and rejection is never fun. Then I tell them I hope they find what they're looking for and then say, "unfortunately for both us, it isn't me." It's polite, kind and direct. Works for me.

You want to be firm, straightforward, non-judgemental -- but you are telling them a decision, not starting a discussion. So:

"I have enjoyed talking with you, but I've decided we're not compatible. Best of luck to you."

Don't belabor it with long explanations. Don't apologize. Don't lay blame on them or yourself. Just tell them your decision and move on.

A lot of people will respond with anger or talk to get you to change your mind. It's best to simply not respond.

Quickly, politely, succinctly.

Though, I must tell you, I've gotten that " It isn't you, it's that you can't control me" line from many a sub/slave wannabe and I can tell you, from experience - many, many years of experience - if you can't find someone who can control you, it's probably you. Especially if you always make that judgment call BEFORE meeting them face to face. You might just have unrealistic expectations. Most people do!
