A thread or two I read here lately have me thinking. So many times, someone posts something, and the reactions that come are "You are searching for wank material", "Why would you post such stuff for us to see?", "We are not in your dynamic", "Use the search feature", etc so on and so forth.

So, is it the subject that gets folks riled, or is it the fact they do not know, or do not like, the person doing the posting?

I agree, OP.  Especially regarding "Use the search feature" and when an old thread has been found, the poster will post their question then they're slammed for reviving an old thread[8|]

The ruffled feathers are posters who think they're so popular that they can say anything & get away with it, or they're just doing so because the internet provides a safe haven to say what they want to make others feel small.

I've read this with great interest, such interest in fact that I will take this opportunity to make my fifth ever post to the boards.

I'm no big fan of wankfodder anything.  That having been said, to avoid the chance of giving even negative attention to a potential attention-seeker, I think the best thing to do with those is just ignore them.  Eventually, they get smarter, or more sophisticated or they just go away.  Being lazy, it has the added benefit of me not having to do a darned thing to handle the situation.

Inflammatory posts? Same deal. My father, while not a well educated man, was no dummy.  He was also crammed to the gills with a lot of "life larnin'".  In situations like that, he would have said "Never try to teach a hog to whistle.  All it does is waste your time and it annoys the hog."

Somebody is being less than twinkly white truthful?  If you must, call "BS", post your proof and get on with life.  I guarantee you that at the end of your time on this earth, you won't regret the time you didn't spend fighting with a line of type online.

Now then.  To what may matter a lot to you and to a lot of other people down the road. J.M. Barrie said "Never ascribe to an opponent motives meaner than your own."  I would extend that to giving people, especially those you don't know well or those you know for a fact to be less experienced or in the know than yourself, ulterior motives or venal personal characteristics.  Those who have been around for a long time, especially those who did it the the "hard" way, have a unique perspective on a wide variety of things (not just kink) coming from a world the just doesn't exist anymore.  Thank heaven for that.  A lot of the people who have been around that long worked hard to be sure that some things from that older world are now mostly gone. They need to be respected for their years of dedication, hard work and caring.  That having been said, all those years ago, somebody stepped up to the plate and mentored them.  Try to have a little patience, and remember that some day, that will be your torch to pass along to the very people you'd like to slap silly now.  My final suggestion is this:  just because it may have been hard for us, doesn't mean it HAS to be hard for everybody else.  There's no value in each generation reinventing the same things over and over. Let's try to pull our Hanes out of our hineys from time to time, listen to what the newer people are asking and saying, and see if there's not something we can do, one person at a time, to make it easier, safer, and more fun for all of us.

Besides, the looks they get on their faces when they realize they didn't invent kink is sort of priceless. :)

Nor will I regret the time I did spend doing it. It's entertainment, a diversion, a distraction, a way to fill a few hours of the day. It's fun.

GreedyTop -> RE: That's so dumb... (7/11/2011 12:41:12 PM)

Agreed.  I think this goes back to various reasons of why people are here.  I know people get really caught up in the idea that this is a dating site (even when they are talking about the forum side, rather than the other side, but I digress) even the forums have varying reasons that people spend their time here.  Since every member to the site has the exact amount of right to be here, the folks using the place for entertainment are just as important as those who are using the place to learn about BDSM, or those who want to show off their photos in the Art and Photography section, or those wanting to sell products in the Artisans section.

Arpig -> RE: That's so dumb... (7/11/2011 2:40:38 PM)

Don't be sad Linn. It's time had come

Arpig -> RE: That's so dumb... (7/11/2011 2:47:35 PM)

I agree LP, I originally came here to learn, and I did learn a LOT, especially about the female perspective, both D & s. But after 5-1/2 years there isn't much that hasn't been discussed at least a few times, so the opportunities for learning something new aren't thick on the ground anymore, so it's for fun. To interact with the other old timers who I've come to know, to trade jokes with the other clowns, to poke those who take themselves to seriously, and to piss off the ones who are easily offended. And every once in a while get to say something helpful or worthwhile in answer to somebody's question.

Bingo. And given the number of people here, one persons fun is another persons fingernails on a chalkboard. Someone looking for offense will find it, and someone looking for knowledge will find it.

All this, and it boils right back down to, for me anyhow, take what ya need and leave the rest-lol.

great post even if it your 14th,not 5th,lol.
It would be nice to think that enough newbies have raised enough questions in this thread to make some of the more experienced posters/kinksters think twice about their tolerances and attitudes.
There is an enormous wealth of knowledge and experience on this site but sometimes it doesn't seem to be readily available to those who need it.

*psst* To most of those who complain about 'the clique' around here, you already are. See how that works? [:D]

Noticing that cliques exist is not the same as complaining about them. Every thread has posters on it with a laundry list of groups and supposed "in crowds" they're in. That's all I was referring to. Personally, cliques have always been stupid to me but realizing they exist is very different than complaining because you wanna be in one. Kind of like with frats and sororities and mobs, it involves groupthink which I personally detest........luci
