kalikshama -> 1,002 active hate groups in the United States in 2010 (7/10/2011 6:49:59 PM)

I thought I'd share something inspirational.

The church service I attended today was inspired by the Southern Poverty Law Center and talked a lot about love and hate. I was sad to learn that my state (Mass.) has 10 active hate groups. http://www.splcenter.org/get-informed/hate-map

"Power without love is reckless and abusive, and love without power is sentimental and anemic. Power at its best is love implementing the demands of justice, and justice at its best is power correcting everything that stands against love."
Martin Luther King Jr.

The service included an interview with neo-Nazi skinhead Brian Patterson who had spent time with Aryan Youth Front Leader Bill Riccio. Patterson lost his hate after he was abandoned by his skinhead buddies and befriended by a black Muslim, who gave the homeless and hungry Patterson a blanket and food despite Patterson's neo-Nazi appearance.

The music included several videos from Playing for Change including War/No More Trouble: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fgWFxFg7-GU

Sounds like a cool service! What kind of church (if you don't mind my asking)?

Unitarian Universalist. Traditionally, the reverend is off in the summer so lay people lead services. They did a really good job with this one :)

Yeah, it's kind of surprising, isn't it? A state that has more top quality colleges than nearly any other ion the country. A good curriculum of diversity and cultural understanding in our elementary and secondary schools and yet they exist and are tolerated nonetheless. But that's kind of the lesson learned anyway, isn't it? By our nature and creed, we can't go and stamp them out we have to accommodate their existence. Course, if they act out, I wish them the full measure of justice the law can provide.

Not to downplay the seriousness of the topic, but the number being bandied about is grossly inflated.

If a group has chapters in multiple cities, every single chapter is counted as a separate "hate group". For example, the total number of hate groups in Florida counts the League of the South six times. And that's just for Florida. The League of the South has chapters in many other states as well.

That kind of creative arithmetic serves no useful purpose. It's pure theater.

A prosecutor told me a few years ago, that's how the law treats them. Within a state that is.

Punkt -> RE: 1,002 active hate groups in the United States in 2010 (7/10/2011 8:30:09 PM)

If someone goes to a web site and creates a free web page with one paragraph of words, a couple of pictures, and a couple of links; FBI treats that as an active group.
There is not actually that much hate groups as mentioned in the statistics. It is actually some type of propaganda. A propaganda of what; don't ask me that.

If there was that many hate groups; there should be some kind of -intellectual- literature of magazines, web sites, newspaper, fanzines, etc.
Go and check all the internet; you will find only find some hate jokes which are not even funny; that is all.
You will not even find articles about their ideas (Except Nihilist ideas such as anus.org).
I guess if these people and groups exists; they must not have any ideas or anything; just one simple minded idea of whatever, which they cannot express in intellectual language (Probably because there is nothing intellectual in their thoughts).
If they had some ideas, there would be some intellectual articles about it (I am not talking about anus.org which is not a hate group, has nothing to do with a hate group, despises the actions and existence of hate groups, but has ideas about racial harmony and separation, and presents the ideas in an intellectual way).

Actually all I wanted to say was, there is not that many active hate groups; the numbers are just increased by any single web page, three guys calling themselves as a group and similar stuff.

P.S.: My mother-tongue is not English, even though I speak English as a main language for over 10 years. You may get confused or misunderstand some of my words because of my different  sentence structure. It happened in my previous posts before.

You`re so full of shit.

Like you know how the FBI works.....or how these determninations are made.

The SPLC doesn`t just count websites or make shit up.

They actually do real work and do real investigations into these groups.

Your post ranges from "I`m clueless to I could`t give a shit".

So you googled and couldn`t find anything......

HFS!......

Folks,you can`t make this shit up ......

Not on google.......so it must not exist.[8|]

Don`t quit your day job.

erieangel -> RE: 1,002 active hate groups in the United States in 2010 (7/10/2011 8:56:32 PM)

I don't know how these hate groups are counted and I'm not sure I want to know.

What I do know is that my son is building a website for a local nonpartisan political group and he found out that not is the National Nazi Party a larger party than most people think, but that they've actually raised something like $1Million. I'll post the link to the site when my son has it up.

If people could express their thoughts (if they have any) in an intellectual way, we would be living in a harmony that deserves to be in a civilization instead of a jungle.

For everybody's information, I made two presentations about FBI Crime Statistics when I was studying Paralegal Studies.

For everybody's information, governments can make anything up.
When Bill Clinton was considering Serbs as an aggressors in Yugoslavia and bombing thousand years old historical buildings; all the public knew was that Serbs was making a genocide against Bosnians, Albanians, and the people of Kosovo. Public never knew that after the bombings; Serb population went back under %5 from %35 in Croatia, %15 from %70 in Bosnia, under %5 from %60 in Albania and Kosovo (from the territories that they have been living over 1200 years). Public never knew who was on the victim side of the genocide in Yugoslavia. Public never knew that in one year under NATO's bombings, more Serbian Orthodox Spiritual buildings such as churches were destroyed than 600 years under ottoman occupation. Public never learned about how many Serb villages have been destroyed. So, yes; governments and government organizations can make anything they want up. This was just another example I made a presentation and article about.

If FBI is making lots of -true and real- investigations and analyzes about crime; can anybody in the USA tell me; how many people of Race A have been murdered, mugged, robbed, raped, attacked, and hospitalized by people of Race B and how many people of Race B have been murdered, mugged, robbed, raped, attacked, and hospitalized by the people of Race A?

P.S.: erieangel, I am posting right after your post. it may seem like I am replying to your post because of that. I am not; I am just posting to the thread. Thanks for your respectful and informative reply, which has the qualities to belong to a civilization instead of a jungle.

Yeah, those rape-camps left a bad taste in a lot of people`s mouths.......you gonna claim that never happened?

A friend of mine`s brother was shot in the jaw with a 22, as he crossed a Serb check point with his family. The only thing he could think of was keeping his family from being singled out for abuse so he kept walking and was able to make it to medical help that day.He said the guy did it for fun and was laughing.

Don`t come to America.

Punkt -> RE: 1,002 active hate groups in the United States in 2010 (7/10/2011 10:52:30 PM)

I was there in Yugoslavia in the time of the civil war before the bombings.
I saw things from the eyes of a child who didn't have any political agenda (I was a child when i was there).

"He said the guy did it...":The guy? One person?
While NATO forces was in order, not just one guy; armies (males with guns -provided by Germany-) of albanians, Kosovo muslims, and Bosnian muslims destroyed hundred years old Orthodox Churches.
Check out the population in Yugoslavia after the bombings and before (for the last 1200 years if you want to) and see what genocide has been committed against who.

I have been living in the United States since 1998.
My ancestors (I am French and German) built the civilization here and flourished a desert in one generation.
I have more right to be here than someone who doesn't speak English, who can't show the US in the world map and understand and respect the culture of this civilization.

Here's the SPLC's methodology:

Only organizations and their chapters known to be active during 2010 are included. All hate groups have beliefs or practices that attack or malign an entire class of people, typically for their immutable characteristics. This list was compiled using hate group publications and websites, citizen and law enforcement reports, field sources and news reports.Hate group activities can include criminal acts, marches, rallies, speeches, meetings, leafleting or publishing. Websites appearing to be merely the work of a single individual, rather than the publication of a group, are not included in this list. Listing here does not imply a group advocates or engages in violence or other criminal activity.

Wouldn't the Republican bashers in P&R qualify?

It may be politically incorrect, but it is not morally incorrect to hate on liars and the proudly ignorant.

[:)][8D]  (from the other side)

and I dont think they counted the republicans who hate america in that 1,002 number....

No Firm,this isn`t a bash republicans thread.....

Don`t get defensive...it looks bad.[;)]

One would think tho, that if their party seemed to constantly "pale around" and flirt with America`s douche-bags,they would look for votes elsewhere.

Yes?

http://www.splcenter.org/get-informed/intelligence-report/browse-all-issues/2004/fall/communing-with-the-council

"At first, even the politicians in question claimed they didn't know what this Council was all about. Sen. Trent Lott of Mississippi, who had spoken to the group five times, once telling its members they "stand for the right principles and the right philosophy," claimed he had "no firsthand knowledge" of it.

Congressman Bob Barr of Georgia, who touched off the brouhaha by delivering a keynote speech at the CCC's national convention in June 1998, said he had "no idea" what the organization stood for."

Don't listen to Owner59, he is a complete and total ASS.  He inspires a new hate group every day just be leaving his house.  I read a good deal about the conflict and it was madness and chaos and you are lucky to be here.  Hopefully you are as tolerant and open minded as the UU's that inspired this thread.  Don't make too much money though, Owner59 will try to take it!!!!!!!!!!

Talk 2 Action Is the DHS Dropping the Ball on Tracking Rightwing Domestic Terrorists?
quote:

Daryl Johnson, a former senior domestic terrorism analyst with the DHS, says that his `greatest fear is that domestic terrorists in this country will somehow become emboldened to the point of carrying out a mass-casualty attack, because they perceive that no one is being vigilant about the threat from within.'

In the wake of 9/11, law enforcement officials ramped up their efforts to prevent domestic terrorism. During the past two years, while energy of the expanded Department of Homeland Security has been focused on Muslims - either American born or those coming from outside the country - according to a former DHS official, the DHS has basically put the kibosh on analyzing homegrown terrorist threats by white supremacists, militias, the patriot movement, and anti-abortion fanatics...

The former senior DHS analyst is concerned with "the fact that our country is under attack from within, from our own radical citizenry. There have been a lot of small-scale attacks lately, whether it's three mail bombs sent to U.S. government facilities in Maryland and D.C., or a backpack bomb placed near a Martin Luther King Jr. Day parade in Spokane, Wash., or two police officers gunned down at a traffic stop in West Memphis, Ark., by antigovernment extremists in May 2010."...

A 2010 DHS study concluded that a majority of the 86 major foiled and executed terrorist plots in the United States from 1999 to 2009 were unrelated to al-Qaeda and allied movements.

Remember, according to the Right-Wing media cartel (i.e. Fox and talk radio), [1] the only people Americans have to fear are Muslims, leftists or liberals, [2] any terrorist plot (successful or unsuccessful) by anyone who is a Muslim (American or non-American) is just part of a vast conspiracy of ALL Muslims worldwide, and [3] any terrorist plot (successful or unsuccessful) by any American who isn't a Muslim or a leftist or a liberal is the work of a deranged individual or individuals with no connections to anyone else.
