Newly released, a comprehensive 107-page report "Getting Away with Torture: The Bush Administration and Mistreatment of Detainees" urges Pres Obama to begin investigating his predecessor G W Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, and other senior Bush II administration figures for possible prosecution for war crimes. A press release outlining the report's main findings can be found here. "There are solid grounds to investigate Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, and Tenet for authorizing torture and war crimes," said Kenneth Roth, executive director of Human Rights Watch. "The US has a legal obligation to investigate these crimes," Roth said. "If the US doesn't act on them, other countries should." Should GWB and his pals face investigation? Are they guilty of being responsible for human rights abuses under their watch? Is this the best manner for the US to put unfortunate episodes such as Abu Ghraib or practices such as 'water-boarding' behind it forever? Are these prosecutions needed for the US to restore its reputation in the human rights area internationally? Looking forward to hearing your views ........
