the boy and i have just got back from watching the last hp film. over all i think the film has been as great as the others (the neville thing aside, i mean it does still follow the story, just in a slightly different way. it doesn't make him any less heroic). my boy has also grown up with the books and the hp books were what got him truely enjoying reading as he has learning difficulties and found it exceptionally hard. i bought him the collection of the first five and half way through the second book it all just clicked.

the films have been our special thing where as each has come out we've got more and more excited. at 17 he's been just as excited to see this last one as all the others which has been great.

we also love the LotR and pirates of the caribian films.

My son just turned 21, he isn't into movies right now, although he enjoyed the book a good deal and we talked about it while we were reading it.

I believe he was in 3rd grade when the first book came out.... just the right age to be reading his first chapter book...

No mention of Tanith Lee yet, either...

9-Oh yeah. Twilight blows. If you're gonna do vampires, do it right-read Lestat ( I like my vampires with style and sophistication, not hanging out in a redneck bar in backwoods Bon Temps) and savor in the language Rice uses to describe New Orleans.

AGREED!   After reading Vampire Chronicles, Twilight seemed like the "G" rated version.   Things rarely make the transition from print to screen in the same manner.  I think the only other vamp movie that gave me chills, was the one with Frank Langella...and the chills weren't from fright.  Brahm Stokers version was good, and Van Helsing deserves a mention...but Interview still tops my list.

As to the OP, I read the books, saw all movies....lets just say I have questions.  Good movies, I didn't fall asleep, but alot of what was in the books, never made it to film.

FR

I went out and bought a wide variety of books the other day, among them the first two Ender books (thanks Monkey!). For once my biggest problem is deciding what to read first.

You mean Fred Saberhagen's version.
There's plenty of good vampire films (or at least better vampire films than Twillight). I'd suggest you investigate the first Hammer Dracula, The Brides Of Dracula, Vampire Circus, Taste The Blood Of Dracula, The Satanic Rites Of Dracula, Near Dark, Thirst, Mister Vampire, Ravenous and The Monster Club for a start...

IMO, movies nearly never compare in terms of satisfaction to books. I did enjoy seeing Harry Potter fleshed out on film tho. But in terms of the relationships between the characters, the books will always rule.

I saw Star Wars in the theater the first time around, as an adolescent, with an adolescent's excitement about movies and fantasy. So while the Harry Potter saga is far more satisfying in story, Star Wars the movie will always have a more special place in my heart.
