My condolences to her family.

I can't say that I'm shocked on this one.  Sad, but true.

Ditto

Amazing talent but she seemed to be determined to self-destruct.

My reaction, also.

I did love her voice.

LadyRedRose -> RE: Amy Winehouse found dead (7/23/2011 11:18:17 AM)

didn't care for her music much but it's such a shame we'll never know what could have been. my sympathies to her family, friends and fans. r.i.p.

Interesting rock n' roll statistic: the age of 27 has a near mythic status for premature deaths, e.g. Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, Kurt Cobain, Richie Edwards... and now Winehouse!

Janis Joplin, James Dean... it seems a lot of bright lights burn out at 27

Indeed, and I forgot Brian Jones: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/27_Club

Dont forget Paul McCartney. ("I buried Paul......") Born '42 died '69 [:D]

Aside from the occasional good thing its a mystery as to why ole Paul failed artistically after the Beatles.

BTW I thought Paul was supposed to have been replaced by his double around 1966/67, maybe PA can shed some light on that conspiracy? [;)]

Aww, I loved 'Frank', but has been just another junkie for years.
She chose her drugs and her enablers, not her art.

HannahLynHeather -> RE: Amy Winehouse found dead (7/23/2011 11:25:18 AM)

no talent.
no surprise
no loss
no sorrow
no real interest.

sympathy to her family, they deserved better than that colossal fuck up.

no mystery at all to me. lennon/mccartney was just a polite sop to his ego.

Again, Wings etc is not my taste in music, but I think the first solo album at least was far better than anything Lennon did post-Beatles. "Maybe Im Amazed" in particular was probably the equal of any Lennon/McCartney love songs, though not George Harrison's. The Beatles are probably the best example in music of the whole being more than the sum of the parts, so I dont think its that big a mystery.

Sorry, most Beatles stuff and certainly all of Maccas solo stuff ranges as annoying elevator or supermarket background music. Seems that the talented Beatle died 2nd.

I agree Wings wasn't much good. Band on the Run is over-rated except for the track I linked up. Yeah his first few solo works were a lot better before Linda was given too much input. Definately the Beatles were greater than the sum of their parts but even when they were very dysfunctional Paul was still churning out some excellent stuff.

Personally I have my suspicions that his creative problems were down to the ill effects of sustained vegetarianism and too much pot, both stultifying the creative spirit! [:D]

For uttering such an obscene sentiment you deserve to listen to listen to this track until your opinion is correct-ified. [8D]

... sorry, topic back to Amy!

I seriously can't stand most of the Beatles stuff, in fact most of it I HATE, it might have been revolutionary in their time, but that was my mom's time and not mine, if I have to take that period, then I would say the best band out of that time would be The Who.

Anyway, Amy had an amazing voice, and what a shame that she wasted her life on drugs and I hope she finds more peace no than she seemed to have in her life.

point taken. It made me roll my eyes just like Courtney Cox's emotional broadcast after Curt Cobain's death.

Live fast, die young, leave a good looking corpse...  Though, to be honest, she wasn't all that good looking was she?
