My sentiments exactly! I like her music. And now, I'm glad nothing anyone says, can add to whatever torture she was feeling. M

Other than the grievances of her immediate family, I don't see anything 'sad' about this at all.

The woman did exactly what she wanted to do, start to finish.

The fact that she did not view the world or "deal with" the world in the same way that the rest of us are trained to see it does not mean that she 'could not overcome her struggles,' etc., just that she chose her own way about it.

If I died tomorrow, I would be a happy girl. ~Amy Winehouse -interview 2007

I'm really just a black girl in a white girl's body. ~ Amy Winehouse

I liked the way she looked.

Isnt Paul McCartney a less attractive and soulful Mick Jagger?

"The only thing the market liked better than a hot young artist was a dead hot young artist, and it got one in Jean-Michel Basquiat, whose working life of about nine years was truncated by a heroin overdose at the age of twenty-seven. His career, both actual and posthumous, appealed to a cluster of toxic vulgarities..."

Interesting that some equate drug/alcohol abuse with being unhappy. Some just like taking drugs and drinking a lot and that's the beginning/end of it.

Riiiiight . .  That's why people use heroin combined with prescription meds and drink bottle after bottle of vodka . . because they're "happy" . .

Orrrrrr because they really, really like doing that and/or started taking them for fun and got hooked. Addiction doesn't necessarily equate having problems. Sometimes, yeah sometimes, it's simply something that gets out of their control.

Given that Jagger's a scrotum faced munchkin who's based a lengthy career on a third rate Johnny Ray impersonation (about as "soulful" a voice as Frank "The sneering Mustache" Zappa is what I'm getting at here), probably not, no.
Whatever else can be said against McCartney, he was in his day a pretty good writer with a clear and powerful voice, and has done quite a lot without his former bandmate Lennon, while every record Hagger's put out without Keith Richard doing all the work for him has stiffed. Even Bill Wyman's sold more records outside of the Stones than Jagger...

I never heard of her.

Not surprised, only most of the planet has

To Be honest, i'm sure i wouldnt Be familiar with her either, if i wouldnt have lived in the UK and Therefore Read at times about her in papers. So whilst it came in our News today i was rather surprised that they mentioned her during normal News over here...Seems they had Space due to gaps during Summer Time...

I guess the Grammy's dont get mainstream attention there or know what the UK/EU equivalent is, but I would be very surprised if she wasnt a multiple award winner over there as well.

Well, and there I would be surprised if she would have been one over here....Of course she will have had her fans over here, and yes, english music is in the radio way too often over here, but quite frankly, we also have many great stars in our own country to celebrate and don't have to hook onto everyone who is so great in the UK or other countries.

Enjoy your Rammstein celebration, the pinnacle of modern German music. "Du Hast" is a real toe tapper.

Soooo good I didn't have a mouthful of coffee, you would have owed me a new monitor.

Moonhead -> RE: Amy Winehouse found dead (7/24/2011 8:59:44 AM)

Quite. It isn't like the band who invented modern electronic music* are German, after all.

*(Kraftwerk)

zephyroftheNorth -> RE: Amy Winehouse found dead (7/24/2011 9:07:34 AM)

Loooooooove Kraftwerk! Rammstein not so much...

littlewonder -> RE: Amy Winehouse found dead (7/24/2011 9:10:13 AM)

My only shock is that she didn't die a couple years ago.

The thing I really love about Kraftwerk is that them and Gary Numan were the two biggest influences on early hip hop.

zephyroftheNorth -> RE: Amy Winehouse found dead (7/24/2011 9:36:30 AM)

That's interesting I didn't know that.

Moonhead -> RE: Amy Winehouse found dead (7/24/2011 9:49:24 AM)

Afrika Bambaata in particular was a fan, apparently.

sympathy to her family, they deserved better than that colossal fuck up.

Exactly how I feel...except for the "No talent" part.
She was talented, but I have no sorrow for another junkie that bit the dust.

JanahX -> RE: Amy Winehouse found dead (7/24/2011 10:22:12 AM)

she always looked like she smelled like ass.

SuzeCheri -> RE: Amy Winehouse found dead (7/24/2011 11:05:40 AM)

Amy Winehouse drank herself to death? Well she was aptly named at any rate.
