Your not grasping the fact that you were never supposed to be able to make those copies.  Many older DVD recorders didn't read the flags that they were not supposed to record.  The newer ones are not going to do it.  As soon as they detected the copy protection they won't record.  You can find a few cheap off brand one which will.

Arpig has offered you help.  I have offered you help.

Do you want to record the movies are do you just want to bitch?

Does that mean buying a movie to download = buying rights but buying a physical copy does not?




You are moving the movie from one device to another for viewing.
You are not buying the rights to the movie.
The difference is that you are only moving the movie to another device; you are not copying it.

itunes is the vendor for content for the ipod and the iphone.
So it is legal to use purchased itunes content for it's intended purpose- to use on apple portables.
Downloading it and then making copies is illegal.

1) It was always illegal to copy them. Always!
2) People have offered to help you.

Accept that it is/was illegal and either accept the offers of help, or for heaven the fuck's sake move on!
We are at 5 pages of this and I am just baffled by it.

It makes me wonder if the saying: "Too much tv may rot your brain" might not be right..

I wouldn't have a problem with transferring the movies from my DVR to an external hard drive without copying them. I don't want to knowingly do anything illegal. I just want to free up space without deleting movies I like to watch.

what exactly do you think you're doing when you move the movie from the dvr to the hard drive??? You're making a copy...duh. Therefore it's ILLEGAL. They WANT you to delete the movies. That's the point!!! They're expecting you to delete the movies. They're not yours to keep!

Then buy the dvds.
Or get an Ipod and get them from itunes... or both.

DVDs can be found very cheaply, you could buy a lot of movies for $130/month.

Status: offline 		Personally I don't care what you do with them.

If you used a VCR you could put in a tape, throw it on the shelf when done and watch it whenever you wanted till the tape wore out.  You can keep it on the DVR and watch it forever.  I understand what your doing and don't view it any different than when you would have made a tape copy.  As long as it is just for your home use your never going to have a problem even if it is technically illegal.

I'm gonna try one more time.  How are you connecting the DVD Recorder to the DVR?

I don't know if you are being deliberately obtuse or if you simply aren't listening:

You don't own the movies on your DVR, which means it is illegal to copy or duplicate them and distribute them to your yourself.  Your $130 pays for a service that shows you movies, it doesn't pay for purchasing the movies you record onto a DVR or watch as part of your $130 package.  If you don't like what the company is offering you for $130, then you either negotiate with them or you find another company that better suits you.   You don't pirate movies owned by the company to make up for what you believe is being charged too much. You don't walk out of a store with stuff you didn't purchase because you feel they charged you too much for soap you just bought.  Why would you believe its okay to do with your TV company?

This really isn't rocket science.

I have no files, programs, or anything else on my hard drive that I haven't paid for unless they are public domain or free ware.

Actually, I do not have any downloaded media on this machine and the only photos on it are of family or friends.
