One time when I was a teenager I bought fresh turmeric root from a Turkish shop in town.

My mum went crazy for it - she made me put it in everything for a whole week.

Then our spit started to turn bright yellow...

In japan, they used to serve you a bowl of steamingly hot rice, and you'd break a raw egg into it and mix it. The heat of the rice would half cook the egg. It tastes a lot better than it sounds.

I've heard of this.  I might have to try this some day.

I am not allowed to have turmeric in the house now due to its ability to turn everything yellow, so I use a bit of paprika instead to avoid the baby poo colour

LOL ok thats funny:)
Im a bugger with it, damn stuff tastes great but my men are sometimes sloppy and I hate trying to get out the stains so I had to limit it somewhat.

half my tee shirts have stains on them, my other half bough me an apron to wear while cooking, I am so Dom, lol

It's really very good, but the rice has to be REALLY hot. Otherwise you just have rice and raw egg....not so very good.

I make that myself sometimes!

Or there's a Korean dish where you have loads of raw beef sliced really thinly, plus rice and veg and a single yolk in a really hot stoneware bowl. You smash the yoke and then spread it into the rice against the sides of the bowl - it turns the rice crisp and crunchy and om nom nom!

A friend I met from here once made me a dish that involved making glutinous rice and then pouring a pot of fresh tea into it, so the rice soaks up the tea. Uberdelicious.

Never had rice pudding?? nah must be missing something here, thats how I eat rice pudding, rice, milk, cream or butter and sugar, ooh I miss my grans rice pudding, ambrosia sheer ambrosia

I think of rice pudding as something really wet - lots of milk/cream. You couldn't get it to that consistency with just butter and sugar.

I think I've been preconditioned against rice pudding by my mother's aversion to hot milk (a whole nother story) but I would totally eat rice with just butter and sugar!

Thats funny cos I cant stand hot milk on its own either, but bake it with rice, lots of nutmeg and cinnamon, maybe even some raisins, milk butter and sugar, I could eat it all day, altho to be honest... I would be the size of a house and probably diabetic with bad arteries tooo.
You know IM gonna try the rice n butter n sugar on its own thing too right?? Thanks for the thought Lilly:)
yum and the rest of you tooo, my mouth is watering

Yeah that would be pretty gross lol. I bet I could cook it, then nuke it almost to the point of exploding, and then crack the egg in it.

that is tasty. there's a place here that serves obnoxiously cheap veggie lettuce wraps with rice made with tea, tomatoes, and something else green; not quite sure what. it's so good.

Green as in green and leafy? Or herby? Or crunchy?

Hmm.  Would I rather have flowers or rice?  I'd choose the flowers, I think.  Yes, I am firmly in the dead petals in a jar camp.

I love to cook with rice.   I use it similar to tofu as it absorbs the flavors I'm cooking with and only adds texture/bulk.

I've done my own sushi as well with short grained rice, but its hard to make a small meal with nice variety so I eventually stopped.

Seriously, enough with the rioting. Happy rice time now, please.

But my favourite rice is freshly looted tesco value rice. It's best enjoyed whilst sitting my brand new 50 meters of rolled up carpet. :-P
