Union members need to do a better job of policing their own if they want to gain the publics sympathy for their causes:

Verizon picketer places daughter in front of oncoming truck, video shows

A video posted online appears to show a Verizon picketer placing his young daughter in front of an oncoming truck — presumably carrying non-union employees — and then taunting the passengers with profanity-laced statements.
"That's who you're hurting," the man says, pointing to the girl. "You're taking it from our family. Good job. Go back where you came from. Look at her face."

The video, posted Monday, is a sign of the intensifying standoff between Verizon and roughly 45,000 of its union employees. The two unions, the Communications Workers of America and International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, have been on strike since negotiations for a new three-year contract
broke down early Sunday morning.

Despite
informal talks today and Monday, picketing events have continued to take place from Massachusetts to Virginia. In New Jersey, about half of the company's 15,000 workers have been picketing at locations across the state.

Why is it that everyone that hates unions always start out their rants by saying "i've been in a union" or "dad was in a union but that was long ago". Why not start out with the truth and let it go from there. You hate unions. You'd prefer working 24/7 with absolutely no holidays. You'd prefer not having health insurance or a lunch break. You'd be just fine losing your job to a new hire that is paid less than you. Working underage kids? You are all for it....Why not go with that rather than hiding behind some bogus bs about the good ole days gone by.

No harm.

I’m as tribalistic as the next guy (I never exmpt myself from being human... although at times I wish I could) so I admit I don’t like it when you dirty smelly foreigners (I know you’re dirty and smelly because you’re a foreigner) criticize the United States… even when it is justified.

The truth, of course, is that no nationality (religion, race, etc.) has a monopoly on virture or vice.

ETA: The dirty smelly foreigner part is tongue in cheek, self depreciating, humor... just in case there are a few out there who don't get it.

I have worked all my life and have never been in a situation like you just described and have never been in a union.

Now I suppose it is possible that you are not capable of finding a job and standing up for your rights, but don't assume that everyone is like that.

The main right in this case, being the right to scab when the union has called a strike?
I'm sure you don't know this, but when they shut down all of the pits after the miner's strike over here, the blackleg minority union that was keen to keep working despite the strike got fucked over just as hard as the NUM.

Did I write that all unions are bad?

No, I didnt write anything like that.

Why not try addressing what was actually written for a change, joe.

Is this Sanity's justification that all unions, or this one, are bad?

What does that have to do with someone not being able to get a job with benifits without the aid of a union?

About the only security a lot of unions have arises from a closed shop.
With people blacklegging, that's them fucked, isn't it?

If I can show tommie (thats sanity in answer to your first) how to wholly misinterpret some triviality in the most rabid way with a little verve......then I think he will be the better man for it, his wholesale slanted misinterpretations are so ........................(wait for it) pedestrian.

there was a time when unions were necessary. That was before we had laws to protect people. Now we have laws in place and you always have the option of negotiating when you accept the job. But if you really want to give your money away to some union because you don't feel you can manage on your own, be my guest. It's not coming out of my paycheck.
