They are the same because they are an altered state of mind. It has nothing to do with how one gets there. A person does not become multiple just in cases of abuse it can happen with any sort of PTSD---returning soliders can get MPD, people who witness some horrible act (murder, car accident) can also get MPD. It's an altered state of mind---and basically a way the mind is able to deal with the trauma.
Dear God. It was a joke!!!!!

We already discussed that aspect of it and we all agreed with the point you are making a page or two back, get off your high horse. It might just make it easier for you to follow along if you're down at ground level.

I think she was trying to rationalize the subconscious' actions in creating the new personality. And I also think she did it rather well.

The way she rationalized it---it would make better sense to say that the subconscious would 'create' a personality that was angry because if the child logically knew that getting angry would get him no where the mind knows that anger must be vented in some way therefore it would create a personality that allows that anger to escape.    Do you know what a pressure cooker is?   Do you know what happens when steam is not allowed to escape?

Doing ok with my Wellbutrin, but thanks
I liked Wellbutrin, it worked better than the other anti-depressants. Did you know it's the same thing as the quit smoking drug Zyban?

I did know that.  I like it too as long as it's the XL version.  It works very well for my Seasonal Affective Disorder without side effects.  OTOH, I had previously unreported side effects on the SR formula.  The packaging changed because of me.

A kid was abused---and is facing the rest of his life in an institution.   And you are making a joke.   Wow amazing!

That's pretty much how it read to me. Not sure how you misunderstood it.

Yeah, about getting into subspace. That's how a sense of humour works, I highly recommend you get one, it will do wonders for your blood pressure and overall enjoyment of life.

That was a lovely story, hausboy.  Thanks for sharing.

Thank you for reading it.

Now the question....was it a personality created by a child's mind to deal with the trauma, and protect "himself" by envisioning what his ideal protector would look like?  (I always had a childhood fascination with firemen--a few years before the abuse took place)

Was it truly a piece of the psyche...implying that our selves...our adult selves...are actually with us from the beginning?

Just plain disassociation from abuse and the trauma of being transgendered?

Fourth dimension time travel?  My disembodied self came back through time to protect the wounded child?

got me.

There is an appropriate time for humor--this is not one of those times.   Secondly its not 'humour' it's humor.   Might I recommend Webster's?

If 'abuse' is the only way you know how to get your submissive into sub space---you may want to retire your level 32 dungeon master status---unless of course it's dungeons and dragons which is what I suspected anyways.

complete hijack here. thousand pardons.  Humour is simply the British spelling of humor, both spelling forms found in the dictionary.  And I believe Arpig's comments were not making fun of the original post topic (the OP's nephew) but was just making a light-hearted comment on the thread.

Arpig posted a very touching thread about his own personal experience with this illness, and so I fully respect that he uses humor...or as he would say..humour....to get through daily life...

FFS...

You are the one who drew the comparison between multiplicity and subspace, fragilepieces when, in fact, they are not the same thing at all.  They both fall on the dissociative spectrum but so do shamanic trance and deep meditation.  If you seriously think those are remotely the same as living as a multiple system then please go to the market and buy a clue.

For the record, most BDSM activities are assault/abuse from a legal standpoint so the comparison is valid if less tactful than it could be.  Get off your high horse.  And "humour" is the appropriate spelling if you are Canadian or from the UK.  Do try to muster a bit of cultural sensitivity before you embarrass yourself further.

It is always an appropriate time for humour, especially on a message board.

It is "humour" everywhere outside of the U.S., which, now this may come as a surprise to you, does not comprise the whole of the English speaking world yet. Might I recommend Rand McNally? You see, some of us still spell things correctly, we even say zed rather than zee.

What I said was what we do, LOOKS like abuse to other people.

Well good for you, a little late to the game, but at least you're starting to get the joke.

Now, I don't know who pissed in your Wheaties, but it wasn't anybody on this thread, so stop trying to pick a fight with everybody. As you can see from the above, you're just making yourself look foolish. Lighten up, before I go and get all Hannerly on your ass.

I have been told that USA people also still use miles and feet for distances. If I recall correctly, that was why one of the Mars landers crashed.

Hijack #2.
Completely FALSE.

The Mars lander crashed because it was running on Windows Vista.

There is a time to be serious and a time to be an idiot.    IMO---this thread is anything but funny.
