We were there for Hugo in MB.  Talk about a mess.  But the national guard guys and gals did their best to make everyone comfortable and safe.  Logically you know there isnt much they can do... but psychologically, the presence is a great comfort.... until they wouldnt let us back over the bridges afterwards... lol

depends on the assignment--I love the National Guard!  They provide logistical support, heavy earth moving/debris removal equipment, the fly out injured on C130's.....provide tactical commo... and best of all...security in damaged areas to prevent looting.  Can never express enough gratitude for all they do.

Here ya go people. Go nuts. Did You Feel It?

Being the overly inquisitive person that I am...I have been perusing the US Geological Survey web site. Did you know under their FAQ section they have the question "Where can I buy a Richter scale?" *LOL*

When I lived on the Big Island, there were the occasional tremors which was a great preparation for the 6.7 earthquake that happened in October of 2006. Apparently it lasted only 15 seconds, but it felt longer. There was an aftershock just a few minutes afterwards that felt just as strong, although it wasn't.

The good news is we lived and can tell our grandkids all about it.

Sanity -> RE: Earthquake near DC (8/24/2011 6:51:18 AM)

Its because leftists tend to keep enemies lists, and no matter how much of a reach it may be they cannot resist the urge to lash out at those such as FOX News that are at or near the top of their list.

I fail to see why you think that is so stupid.

The topic isnt about leftists, or righties, or politics at all.

Its about the earthquake.

Stay on topic, Sanity.

Nixon was a leftist, then?

Hillwilliam -> RE: Earthquake near DC (8/24/2011 10:33:31 AM)

A friend tols me he felt it but I told him it was just another meth lab blowing up down the block.

Hillwilliam -> RE: Earthquake near DC (8/24/2011 10:35:20 AM)

As an aside.  Could you imagine if a couple was having gtheir first ummm encounter and just at the moment of truth............ GAWWWWWWWWB BABYYYYYYYYYYYYYY the earth moved.

Moonhead -> RE: Earthquake near DC (8/24/2011 10:39:35 AM)

Nixon was a leftist, then?

Well, put him up against J Edgar Hoover, another well known enemies list keeper, and the fuckstick would look like a bomb throwing anarchist.

So.....depends on your perspective.

Those are the known published ones, the neo-cons who cant seem to get a bill thru congress or get the intel they are given correct vis a vis Iraq, have some insider knowledge of leftists keeping enemies lists, I would suppose 'neath the death panel lists, n-est ces pas?

I just heard on the Jerry Falwell news channel that God has said that the earthquake was in retribution for the vast homosexuality in the republican party.........unfortunately they had to tell a democrat, since all the republicans were being smitten..

Moonhead -> RE: Earthquake near DC (8/24/2011 11:12:56 AM)

Falwell says that about everything though, even stuff like the al queda New York demolitions programme, which definitely wasn't an act of God...

mnottertail -> RE: Earthquake near DC (8/24/2011 11:14:48 AM)

You thinking it was an act of the homosexual republicans then?

Moonhead -> RE: Earthquake near DC (8/24/2011 11:26:02 AM)

I think there's thread in P&R blaming it on a republican who'd drank himself so limp he couldn't get it up in any airport toilet in the land (however wide his stance) going on holiday in Crawford even as we speak, Ron.

Sanity -> RE: Earthquake near DC (8/24/2011 12:14:23 PM)

Sure, Mein Führer...  "straying from ze earthquake topic ist strictly verboten!" unless of course its one of your whacked out far left friends who wants to post some of their leftist political drivel...

Then, its anything goes.  [:D]

I thought that it was because Obama was on vacation a la Chris Mathews. [8|]

mnottertail -> RE: Earthquake near DC (8/24/2011 12:31:34 PM)

I cant see religious radical conservatives saying the earthquake happened because Obama was not in the area. They would downplay that aspect.

YMMV.

I was just making a joke about that other thread with 9/11 happened because Mr. Bush had been on vacation the week before it happened.
