I honestly don't see the big deal about people knowing about other profiles - unless of course you have a reason to hide stuff. Actually I don't see the need to have more than one profile. ~shrugs~ I would be much more upset if stuff that could ID me offline were to be made public. In the grand scheme of things I don't see the big deal here.

ETA: Actually I think people should be accountable for what they say and creating anonymous sock puppets to avoid that is cowardly. You believe it say it - under your known account.

Then perhaps.......the moderators should be required to give the names of their regular profiles.......since it's all okay and all.

It's NOT a big deal. What's a big deal is when a moderator, who's supposed to be impartial, uses that information (or simply invents it) in order to bias forum members against a particular poster. (That's why there is no outcry over the fact that regular posters give opinions about who is a sock puppet.)

Agreed, I really don't like that they are anonymous.

ETA: better yet Mods shouldn't have two separate accounts.

What's the big fucking deal????
Because, the mod in question has continued to refuse that she was making an unfounded accusation, stating that those objecting are making assumptions (thus again implying that the accusation was true), reinforcing the idea that she was stating fact rather than just an opinion.

As well, it is inappropriate for any member of the administrative crew to publicly express any sort of judgment on members while wearing their official hat.

Uhm....dude.....we are debating the same point here. While less passionate about it, I agree with you. I just ain't gonna lose any sleep over it.

Okay, can you show me an instance when that has happened?

LaTigresse -> RE: This is your chance, speak now or forever hold your peace! :) (9/10/2011 6:44:56 PM)

It has been shown. Several times actually.

zephyroftheNorth -> RE: This is your chance, speak now or forever hold your peace! :) (9/10/2011 6:46:55 PM)

Okay...where?

How was anyone "outed"? I someone announces "S is the sock of K", that's outting.
One profile was clearly exposed as a sock, and a clear implication of who was behind the sock was made. Not an out and out "outing" but an "outing" all the same. It's the sort of "outing"  done when one has a suspicion, but no proof, because technically one didn't actually say who was behind it.

The site admins can see all of a person's account names.
No, I do not believe they do, I do not believe there is any way for them to have that information, a position I have quite adequately demonstrated. And if, on the minuscule chance that I am wrong, and they do know who created which accounts, then it is totally unacceptable for them to be revealing that information.

How many times we have seen some s-type create an obviously fake profile to post a question about something their d-type has done in order to preserve their anonymity, either from their d-type or to avoid personal embarrassment. Now if the admins really do have the info as to who is behind the fake profile, and they made an "official announcement" hinting at who it actually is asking the question, would you consider that in any way acceptable?

Go back and re-read this thread! It's been shown, linked, etc........several times. The problem, as I stated, is that SOME of us saw it clear as a bell and others, apparently you are one of them, did not see it. Continuing to link it, re-type it, isn't going to make it any more clear than it was the very first time.

That is the crux of the matter: you are not the only 'I' in this world and universe - and them other I's do see the big deal.

Whereas I prefer them to be anonymous. Their anonymity enables them to be impartial. Once the anonymity is gone, the judges are disrobed and vulnerable.

LaTigresse -> RE: This is your chance, speak now or forever hold your peace! :) (9/10/2011 7:10:58 PM)

The best way I can explain it as I see it...

There is a line, a very fuzzy line, but it exists. If a person wants to be in a position of power over others, they cannot sink to certain behaviours of the 'others' that they are demanding respect, power, over. It lessens the respect they are given. Makes them a joke. Certainly they will still have some power, even get some 'obedience' as long as the 'others' want what they have power over. As long as 'others' want to stick around. But they will not get that obedience because they are respected, they will get it just as a price to be paid.......it's a joke, it makes the person in power a joke.

As human beings in our societal organization, we expect our leaders to maintain a certain level of behaviour that is of a higher standard that we accept of ourselves. If they sink to our level, we lose respect for them and want to remove them as leaders.

I know that is overblown and overly dramatic but it's the only way I can think of to explain why it is a big deal to some people.

Why? Either way they have the info they have.
Because it is my contention, based on my knowledge of the Internet protocols that they do NOT have that info. Just as an example, my IP address at home is being used to access websites by several hundred people at any given moment. Anybody who uses the Tor program can post using my IP.
Right now I am posting from one IP.

/quote]

I am way behind on this thread and am now catchin up, and am not going to be making a bunch of replies to this thread as I have already said. The only thing I will say about this (and its VERY little for OBVIOUS reasons because this area involves what CM may or may not have in their internet arsenal )

Just because you are not aware of any internet protocols or any other procedures, hardware, or informational systems available to tie or not tie users, accounts, sites, ip addresses together etc does not mean those items are not readily available.

Small correction to your post, THE MAJORITY of your ip address is in use by others right now. I do not plan to give a lesson in internet security, because, honestly, there is no reason it would benefit you to know unless you had less than honorable intentions on what to you might plan to use that information for. There are over 10000 people on this forum this very moment, and so, at the risk of not satisfying your curiosity, I think the site would be better served not displaying even a mention of any part of its security policy. I will say though, that if you thought things through a little bit, that you would realize that a site with over a million members has a security policy in place and would very possibly be much higher tech (which costs large amounts of money by the way, that users never consider when they espouse that the site's goals are monetarily based)than you might be aware of, EVEN if you are in the it field, unless your personal niche happens to be membership website security protocol. Suffice it to say, also, that just like in a regular vanilla business, different employee levels, may or may not have access to systems that may or may not exist.

The only reason I posted is you were possibly not correct in your statements as to what the capability is or is not to link users. I am going to read the rest of the thread , but this time, will be making note (hopefully correctly) of any opinions yall have been gracious enough to give us recently in this thread. I will also say ahead of time, that I sid I had no idea how long this thread would be on. I will lock this thread in the morning, which will give everyone plenty of time to have input on this thread that wants it.

Well I went back over the thread and didn't see it. Maybe those posts were removed by Pi before she realized we are supposed to be allowed to debate? [sm=dunno.gif]

Fine, you want to play dumb, here is the accusation of being a sock puppet:
http://www.collarchat.com/fb.asp?m=3839167
Here is the implication that it was done with the blessings of VAA or at least in line with her policies:
http://www.collarchat.com/fb.asp?m=3839219
Here is the second accusation of sockpuppetry and the hint as to who was behind it:
http://www.collarchat.com/fb.asp?m=3839208
Here is the thinly veiled threat:
http://www.collarchat.com/fb.asp?m=3839250

Satisfied? Or do you need printed directions?
