TheHeretic -> When in doubt, invent a new kind of racism (9/24/2011 7:03:22 AM)

Here's a nice new guilt trip for liberals, and Democrats with buyer's remorse.  Now it is their turn to be called racists.

http://www.thenation.com/article/163544/black-president-double-standard-why-white-liberals-are-abandoning-obama

I would think that a professor of political science would be familiar with the Carville's Law (It's the economy, stupid), but how often do the people who like this slur let facts get in the way, anyway?

quote:

Still, electoral racism cannot be reduced solely to its most egregious, explicit form. It has proved more enduring and baffling than these results can capture. The 2012 election may be a test of another form of electoral racism: the tendency of white liberals to hold African-American leaders to a higher standard than their white counterparts. If old-fashioned electoral racism is the absolute unwillingness to vote for a black candidate, then liberal electoral racism is the willingness to abandon a black candidate when he is just as competent as his white predecessors.

Dont see the guilt trip there, Rich. Mind pointing it out?

willbeurdaddy -> RE: When in doubt, invent a new kind of racism (9/24/2011 9:42:31 AM)

"higher standard" lmao.

If the standards for booting this clown were any lower than where things are then we could be in 4 wars, owe $20 trillion, have real unemployment in the 30% range and inflation in the teens. Would it be racist then?

fucking idiot.

It seems pretty straightforward, Tazzy.  It is proposed that anyone who does this is allowing racism to cloud their vision.  What good white liberal wouldn't feel guilty about that?

She bases this on comparisons to Clinton's compromises, yet leaves out the stark differences in economic conditions, leading into the election.

Its a yawn because I don't think, when push comes to shove, that democrats will abandon Obama in favor of the GOP candidate come election day--which is all that really matters.

Youre right. But they wont show up in the numbers he needed to win the first time either.

It's not about democrats. It's about independents. Neither democrats nor republicans elect presidents. Independent voters do, and they are abandoning him at a rapid rate.

Whether they'll actually vote for a Republican is another story. I haven't seen one I'd like to vote for yet. Then again, the for vote may end up being eclipsed by the against vote.

That's true to a large extent, Strange, but the base has to be motivated as well, so that the energy and enthusiasm will attract those independents needed to win.

Now it is their turn to be called racists.

I think it's a great idea. Once everybody's a racist, maybe the issue will go away.

Maybe the race obsessed and racially preoccupied should get a life?

We wouldn't have any Democratic Party leadership, then!

It seems like your party has the race issues, for the most part.

Is this more make pretend so you can avoid them?

TheHeretic -> RE: When in doubt, invent a new kind of racism (9/24/2011 7:46:45 PM)

Sure, O59.  The Nation is just another official mouthpiece for conservatives.

I'd ask what part of it wasn't clear to you, but I doubt you read it to begin with.

Essentially what this article says is that if I am a white liberal voter, who voted for Barack Obama in 2008, but in 2012, I change my mind and vote for the same candidate that YOU do, I am a racist?

Ummmmmm Okay, sounds sorta reasonable.
