There once was this couple who found a beautiful house by an airport, they bought it and then complained to
the zoning officials that they couldn't enjoy their home because the air traffic was too loud.

Politics ain't pretty and somebody's religion is bound to offend somebody else's. That is why there is a first and second amendment to The Constitution of The United States of America.

Oh yes... and then there is this, "there's only a few dozen".

Even tho I know I am going to get spanked-  she is right.

This place is not fun anymore.   So I am cautiously optimistic on this new policy.

Sanity -> RE: Hmmm..."An update on Posting Style in this category" (9/28/2011 5:14:13 AM)

Perhaps you havent been paying attention because the trolls were becoming ever more brazen. They were hurling gay slurs and purposely derailing every thread with their petty nonsense.

As we near the election (and as it becomes clear that the left is in deep trouble) the far left trolls were signaling that they werent willing to allow any real political discussion to occur, so this is a very good thing.

You're going to give VAA a whole new appreciation for Voltaire. [:D]

I realize you only intended a parable, but you hit one helluva nerve to a Coloradoan who had to help foot the bill to build Denver International Airport when Stapleton was entirely usable.

I dont mean jesturing and mild jabs-  I mean the total highjack of many threads.

When was politics and religion ever fun ?

Politics and religion affect peoples lives in big ways and often it is one man's politics and religion is anethema to another, so it has to be discussed so that anethema does not come to us all

Yay for the new rules! I hope the enforced civility results in more adult discourse.

Actually, I agree with you up to a point. But when things descend into little more than trading exceedingly crude and deeply personal insults, or when some nutcase goes off the rails posting the same rant over and over again, to a half-dozen different threads, most of them unrelated, and keeps at it for days on end, it's time to throttle back.

Says the man who habitually derails threads himself.

Okay, seriously now, folks: the main problem with the political boards is high level of spitfulness and petty bickering combined with a heavy dollop of last-word-itis. Sanity, your harping on Tazzy's supposed gay bashing in just one example out of many. Tazzy was not gay bashing and I think you know that but you are using appearances as a hammer to beat her with...and believe me, I understand the desire to (metophorically speaking!) smack her around a little (and a few others as well).

Before anyone gets their panties in a twist, no I do not claim purity in these matters (although, if I may cast aside humilty for a moment, I think I usually manage to keep it under wraps).

I would be oppsed to any major changes to the political forum for two reasons.

First, it would deprive me of some entertainment. [sm=jerry.gif]

Second, I am just inclined to prefer less restrictions rather than more. Let people work out there own problems with each other.

Solutions? Well, one solution would be that everyone get together, smoke some doobies, and chill out. Then we can all join hands in a circle and sing "it's a small world after all..."

That's not likely to happen so the only other solution I can see (that doesn't involve opressively harsh moderation) is the idea that was batted around a while back: a no holds barred forum. We could call it the Snark Forum. On the Snark Forum, anything goes... with the understanding that when you leave the forum you leave your hard feelings behind. On the Snark Forum Sanity and Tazzy (along with everyone else) can call each other every vile thing they want to but when they return to the other forums a higher level of civility prevails. Perhaps this will lighten things up a little on the Politics Forum. To be honest, human nature being what it is, I'm not particularly optomistic... but we'd never know until we tried.

Aneirin -> RE: Hmmm..."An update on Posting Style in this category" (9/28/2011 7:00:49 AM)

But all that happens here, is it not seen anywhere else, what about our political chambers, are those we elect to manage politics sweet and respectful to each other, well, if the UK parliament is anything to go by degradation of character is part of the game, although even that has not descended into some of the crap the minions practice on web forums like here ....yet.

DarkSteven -> RE: Hmmm..."An update on Posting Style in this category" (9/28/2011 7:04:12 AM)

I favor the new rules.  I'd love some civility here.  There are certain posters who don't give a damn about P&R but simply come here to insult - I hope they leave.  And there are some who will make interesting posts but drop to namecalling when insulted - I hope their heads stay cool.  The only drawback I can see is mod fatigue.

You ain't going to win a constitutional arguement about free speech here. This ain't a federal site, and it ain't a government site.
So due to individual rights, they can do what they goddamn well want.

No arguement against it is possible or able to withstand actual scrutiny.

Oh, for God's sake.

I spend some time on the other boards and the insults I see going on there are far worse than P&R.

But for some reason this board has a bad reputation that I don't understand.

Well, if the people in the house don't stop trashing the house, we can always evict them all, level the house, and forbid discussion of the airport anywhere in our vicinity.
