ORIGINAL: HannahLynHeather ok, its no secret that i am very much an ardent atheist. i have noticed something a little fucking weird lately. in response to my posts on the "can we be good without god" thread i have received several cmails congratulating me on my atheism, and inviting me to join various atheist discussion groups. in the wake of her renouncing christianity thread, cheri received many similar messages. this leads me to wonder about things a little. first. why the fuck do these atheists automatically equate a rejection of christianity with atheism. cheri stated repeatedly that she still believed in a higher power, just not the one of the abrahamic religions, yet she still got shit loads of congratulatory mail from atheists. what the fuck? do they lose the ability to read along with their belief? fucking proselytes is what they are, no different from the fuckers who come knocking to spread the word. second. congratulating somebody on being an atheist seems like a really fucking weird thing to do, to congratulate somebody on not believing in a fairy tale, i mean when was the last time you walked up to some fucker and said "way to go for not believing in the easter bunny dude"? i mean its not as if it takes any fucking effort to not believe. its not like its an accomplishment of any great import, anybody with a brain cell or two can do it, all it takes is a minute or two of honest reflection and then that's it, no further thought or effort required, your done with the issue for life and can move on to other questions and issues that have some actual fucking importance. third. what the fuck would you have to discuss on an atheist discussion group? i mean what more is there to say to each other? do they discuss just what denomination of non-belief they follow, or how they don't interpret various passages in the various holy books they don't believe are revelatory? got me fucking stumped that's for sure. edited to fix the fucked up numbering of points. Evangelistic atheism! Which is precisely why its a religion. Hey HEather: This is a fairy tale too: quote:
The Boy Who Cried Wolf There once was a shepherd boy who was bored as he sat on the hillside watching the village sheep. To amuse himself he took a great breath and sang out, "Wolf! Wolf! The Wolf is chasing the sheep!" The villagers came running up the hill to help the boy drive the wolf away. But when they arrived at the top of the hill, they found no wolf. The boy laughed at the sight of their angry faces. "Don't cry 'wolf', shepherd boy," said the villagers, "when there's no wolf!" They went grumbling back down the hill. Later, the boy sang out again, "Wolf! Wolf! The wolf is chasing the sheep!" To his naughty delight, he watched the villagers run up the hill to help him drive the wolf away. When the villagers saw no wolf they sternly said, "Save your frightened song for when there is really something wrong! Don't cry 'wolf' when there is NO wolf!" But the boy just grinned and watched them go grumbling down the hill once more. Later, he saw a REAL wolf prowling about his flock. Alarmed, he leaped to his feet and sang out as loudly as he could, "Wolf! Wolf!" But the villagers thought he was trying to fool them again, and so they didn't come. At sunset, everyone wondered why the shepherd boy hadn't returned to the village with their sheep. They went up the hill to find the boy. They found him weeping. "There really was a wolf here! The flock has scattered! I cried out, "Wolf!" Why didn't you come?" An old man tried to comfort the boy as they walked back to the village. "We'll help you look for the lost sheep in the morning," he said, putting his arm around the youth, "Nobody believes a liar...even when he is telling the truth!"
