Talk about callous and cluesless.

Cain is such a swell guy.

StrangerThan -> RE: Cain blames unemployed, audience laughs and cheers... (10/19/2011 2:02:25 AM)

Somewhere in these threads is a mention of responsible journalism. Thanks for posting an example of irresponsible, unprofessional, and sensationalistic journalism.

You know, I'm willing to give just about anyone a chance, especially if they're up front and the guile factor is limited. Here's where this piece rates on the guile and deception meter - about 99 out of 100.

Here's why

"Wall Street didn't put in failed economic policies. Wall Street didn't spend a trillion dollars that didn't do any good. Wall Street isn't going around the country trying to sell another $450 billion. They ought to be over in front of the White House taking out their frustration."

Honestly, I don;'t care one way or the other about Cain, but this shitty type of reporting bolstered by magpie liberals who have zero interest in honest discussion are what makes any real debate useless. A lot of people here dump all over Sanity for what he posts, then turn around and do the same fucking thing.

Dealing with many liberal minded folk is not just dealing with hypocrisy. It is wallowing in it.

Keep it up though. This is exactly the kind of shit that makes independent voters not just wonder about your aspirations, but realize the shaft is sitting behind the intentional twisting of words and intent.

The deception? Using that journalistic... style I could run a story about HannahLynn, using the headline Cain didn't say what was quoted!

But then, you're going to have a problem with what it implies, and insist on clarifying. The point being, you can take anyone's words out of context and use them for your own advantage or to bolster your own political agenda or social slant.

It is sorry reporting to do so.

FR

""They might be frustrated with Wall Street and the bankers, but they're directing their anger at the wrong place," he added. "Wall Street didn't put in failed economic policies. Wall Street didn't spend a trillion dollars that didn't do any good. Wall Street isn't going around the country trying to sell another $450 billion. They ought to be over in front of the White House taking out their frustration.""

Bullmotherfuckingshit ! There was no grassroots movement to repeal Glass Steagal, it was not on a ballot anywhere. We The People did not deregulate these vampires and allow them to rape the economy of this country, and in some resects, the world.

This is the guy who would be dead if there was socialized medicine here ? Well by all means let's get socialized medicine !

find it interesting that the complaint is about the journalism, not what he actually said

That is the complaint with the journalism. Exactly

StrangerThan -> RE: Cain blames unemployed, audience laughs and cheers... (10/19/2011 6:12:00 AM)

The only train involved is the one that stops at the point it becomes expedient to do so in order to run a headline like that.

There's a reason these folks write for huff, and that's because no respectable news organization would hire them.

StrangerThan -> RE: Cain blames unemployed, audience laughs and cheers... (10/19/2011 6:13:36 AM)

Lol. One of these days, I think you're just going to explode and leave the walls of your mom's basement covered in the red ink from your hate Palin costume.

DomYngBlk -> RE: Cain blames unemployed, audience laughs and cheers... (10/19/2011 6:15:08 AM)

The headline is exactly what the man said and the reaction of the audience. Do you want the link to the debate?

How about I give you a link to the thread here a couple of weeks ago over Hoffa's quote and the missing words from it?

It's the same shit. I can pull words from anyone's mouth, chop and dice them  into supporting a headline of choice.

Lucylastic -> RE: Cain blames unemployed, audience laughs and cheers... (10/19/2011 6:24:03 AM)

no the point is what herman cain said.. not how bad journalism is..if you wanna complain about the bloody title and not the meat, go to Huffpo
They didnt lie about what he actually said, which I believe is the actual TOPIC, and not the level of writing, because it sounds like you are deflecting what he DID say, when he REPEATED that "If you dont have a job, you aren't rich it's your fault not wall street." Which IS paraphrasing.

samboct -> RE: Cain blames unemployed, audience laughs and cheers... (10/19/2011 7:07:48 AM)

Actually, I agree with ST here. The headline is very misleading. A far more accurate headline would have been- Cain tells the unemployed not to blame Wall St, but the White House. That's what the audience got- and that what they were cheering for. Cain's comments are that the unemployed have not placed the blame for the miserable economy where it belongs and that they should. This is a very different statement than "Cain blames the unemployed and the GOP Audience Cheered."

On the other hand- I can disagree with Cain because Wall St. claimed that if they weren't bailed out- there'd be an economic calamity. However, they haven't changed their ways, nor has there been any gratitude towards the poor schmo's on Main St who've lost jobs or are working harder for less money to pay for their bailout. The guys on Wall St still seem to think that they earn their ridiculous paychecks based on NPR interviews I heard a few months back. Wall St. is also shoveling money hand over fist to Romney....

DomYngBlk -> RE: Cain blames unemployed, audience laughs and cheers... (10/19/2011 7:18:03 AM)

Which is bullshit. Go back and look at the exchange. He was asked if he stood by his comments that the unemployed were to blame for their situation. He said yes, there was loud applause. Don't try to sugar coat this shit.

Lucylastic -> RE: Cain blames unemployed, audience laughs and cheers... (10/19/2011 7:22:31 AM)

Lots of people see it as blame, sorry but he did say it was the unemployeds fault, NOT wall street that is assigning blame.
His words WERE
Don't blame Wall Street. Don't blame the big banks. If you don't have a job and you're not rich, blame yourself
how is that not assigning blame???

The last makes sense, the LDS is really more like a corporation than a religion, Mormons are very popular in executive circles, because of their squeaky clean image - Howard Hughes employed Mormons exclusively, although around here in Mormon country itself, they appear to be as susceptible to corruption and favoritism as anybody else, if not actually prone to it, when there is some theological justification, or it's convenient. When caught, they are defended as "good Christians" and mercy begged, even in cases of child molestation - anybody else "needs to be shot".

They are also highly nepotistic, the Romney's staff is going to be packed with nephews and cousins if he actually get's elected, I've been pushed out of any number of jobs around here after somebody's nephew showed up.

Technically, the legal justification for the entire settlement of this country to begin with is a papal bull, Inter Cetera, which justifies Christians seizing the lands of non-Christians, which would include the Mormons, and practically the entire state of Utah (see Johnson v. McIntosh).

samboct -> RE: Cain blames unemployed, audience laughs and cheers... (10/19/2011 7:45:38 AM)

Well, having watched the video-my take on it was that Cain was suggesting that unemployed folks should be yelling at the White House- and if they weren't they had themselves to blame for not trying to improve their own situation. I think that's the larger context of what he was trying to say. I think the soundbites have distorted it.

DYB- I suspect that the audience knew that was the answer that Cain would give. I'm reminded of when Howard Dean lost the primary due to his "scream" taken out of context, he looked like he was raving. But a friend of mine who was there at the rally said it was perfectly appropriate in context. Had Cain said that there should be no handouts for lazy people who can't get off the couch to get a job following his indictment- I'd agree with you. But he was using the unemployed to beat up on Obama, and I think that's a legitimate point. That he's saying that its Obama's fault that these folks are unemployed means that its not the fault of the unemployed due to any moral lapse- it's not a criticism of the unemployed as being lazy- it's a criticism that they've taken their anger to the wrong place. Please note that I think the reason that unemployment is so high is very much a function of Republican intransigence over tax cuts, debt, and a somewhat flawed stimulus plan that was too small to do the job. (there were flaws beyond the dollar amount though.)

I also agree with ST that this is symptomatic of a larger problem. We have a complex serious debate that needs to happen about the future of our country- and rather than waste time with sound bites, we should be focusing on what the substantive issues are. Cain has clearly tapped into GOP anger at the Obama administration- and given the guys on Wall St. a free ride. There's plenty to disagree with here- I just don't see the need to distort his viewpoint in order to do so.

On these boards, I've taken ST to task on more than one occasion by his insistence that both parties are to blame for the mess we're in. I agree with him in part- but I find his failure to apportion blame correctly puts a rosier picture on disastrous Republican policies than I think is warranted. We can disagree- but at least we don't get into name calling and bathos which is exactly what Huff Po is trying to do with Cain's comments. Mind you, Fox "News" as the media leader, has set this bar in place- but Huff Po shouldn't stoop to their level of yellow dog journalism. Note that the NY Times had nothing of the kind in its analysis on the debate.

DomYngBlk -> RE: Cain blames unemployed, audience laughs and cheers... (10/19/2011 8:18:49 AM)

I am sorry but you are putting thoughts and ideas into peoples minds that aren't actually there. Or at the very least there is no way we know if they are there or not. You can't say you "think" that is what the crowd was thinking. I've went over it a couple of times. The claps and cheering were when he was reaffirming to Anderson Cooper that he stood by his statment that the Unemployed have themselves to blame...>End of story. You can spin it any way you care to but that is the fact.

To me it is at the crux of the differences between those that gots and those that don"t. Those on the right and left. Dems, Repubs. It is definitely part of the bigger issue and to brush that exchange off is doing a disservice to all the Unemployed of this country. If you want to go on making excuses and sucking on the tit of the right...so be it. Just don't try to put ideas and words into play that aren't there...
